I remember the original World of Warcraft, I remember wandering around Westfall looking for harvesters in order to get oil and barley and gears for me to sell or trade in for ale, now I am unable to complete that quest now that the hops are no longer there in-game in Cataclysm. it's just depressing whenever I pass by the Saldean Wagon and see Blanchy and the Saldeans not there anymore, they gave me that sense of adventure that made Westfall just so interesting to me as a place where I can go to.

The only reason WoW gets as much attention as it does (media/ gaming community/ this sort of stuff) is because it is big. It isn't the MMORPG or what have you that becomes an obsession. It isn't the only material thing that becomes and obsession, either.

Its no different than gamers playing MW2, for example, for long periods of time, almost obsessively. It is just that when it gets to the point where the line between reality and [obsession] is blurred that it becomes a health problem.

online MMORPGs are all about a false sense of achievement. You feel like you are valued and rewarded and that's what makes you come back for more. Often, this false sense of reality is what tends to pull away from real life achievement, and you can be sucked into this false reality quite easily. Speaking as an ex-WoW player, i know how much sense of achievement i got from WoW and sadly i lost about 2 years to that game. It's not a bad game, it's just all about moderation and sense of achievement
