itachimeyano summed up the entire cutscene in about three or four lines. Pretty good cut scene, really true, when i first played it i thought i was brilliant.
This was, hands-down, the best part of the game story-wise. A number of parts were pretty shaky and the plot in general kinda falls apart at the end, but this exchange was brilliant.
Hell, in a way I think this game might have been better if it was designed as a stand-alone title, rather than a part of the Metal Gear saga. It's got some sparkles of brilliance in its own right, but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the MG series.

And yes, I know it's just a video game, but any idea worth playing through in cut-scenes is worth discussing I think.

Rose is real, all right. This Rose is just G.W.'s version of Rose. The game IS an exercise in making a perfect soldier, but it also doubles as The Patriot's exercise for information manipulation. Poor ol' Raiden is the subject of both experiments at once. That's how I remember it, anyway.

i also like how when rose says "you have to beLIEve me" and it was an obvious example of this entire call. makes you almost feel like the word believe was created jsut to fool people. this game gave me the willies the first time i got to this part. and got me hooked on metal gear for life.

I noticed that the end part was cut out. There was more stuff before "I think that's enough talk." I would also like the scene discussing the S3 Simulation and other vital plot twists. Remember, it's all philosophy, no different than other doomsday principles we find in culture.

what this is, people, is a classic prosecutor's tactic; take a person's (or in this case the public's) flaws, magnify them to paint the person in the darkest possible manner, all the while conveniently hiding behind loopholes in what we accept as social mores in an effort to manipulate and tyranize. That is what GW, or "the colonel" and the face rose were doing. I wouldn't listen, personally; its all manipulative talk.

Just to clear up what RunawayCactus said: Solid Snake and Liquid are not Big Boss and Eva's sons. They were genetically engineered (as were the Genome Soldiers). Ocelot was the son of The Boss (Big Boss' mentor) and The Sorrow, though taken by The Patriots at birth. Come to think of it, Ocelot's ESP heritage could explain why Liquid can possess him.

that wasnt the real campbell, it was a part of the AI that shaped itself to look like Campbell. The Colonel exists, look at MGS and MGS4, well, at least the trailers for now :D.

I just wanted to say, something that really bugged me about this video is that, if you hadn't noticed, a chunk of it is cut out. What the "self" is, and one of my favorite exchanges.

It's weird. I didn't exactly get everything at first, but listening to this video again, it's crazy. I didn't notice the chunk cut out until you mentioned it, so I dug up the game to hear the convo in whole. Fortunately I still had a save inside Arsenal. :D

ive played about 30 minutes of mgs (20 of those being portable ops on the psp) and i got this.
raiden is in a computer.
theres robot computer "patriots" and their creepy and cannot seem to get a decent signal.

it's a common message but given an otherworldly, nearly apocolyptic angle, peraps more potent than any other (albiet few but metal gear fans would see it), that of the responsibility of all people to have a healthy skepticism of information, it's like what they say, "believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear" it's important not to be too closed minded, but at the same time, not too open minded either.
