This looks like really good sized horse, what size is the hoofjack being used in the video (e.g. draft), and is the platform the same height for both the draft and standard size models (i.e., is the lowest setting the same height for both)?
@Mojave4ever The horse in the video is in the 15 hand range and his hoof is in a standard cradle. The standard cradle will accomodate hooves from pony size up to a size 7 shoe. Anything over size 7 would need a draft cradle. The base for the standard and draft cradle are the same - it is only the size of the cradle that changes with the size of the hoof. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
@hoofjack wow, He is looks a lot bigger in the video than he is...I was guessing at very least 16 hands. I ordered the standard size, then...for a "shorty" (13.3).
@Mojave4ever It is the size of the hoof and not the size of the horse that determines whether you order a standard Hoofjack or a draft Hoofjack, except for miniatures for which we have a completely separate stand because the standard base is too tall and wide to fit between the front feet of a mini and of course the mini cradle is much smaller as well. Thanks for ordering a Hoofjack!
@hoofjack My concern was the "lowest setting" limit which appears to be a function of the stand height. Some jacks are a bit to high for comfort for a small horse - especially the hinds. I think the standard will work....I am looking forward to trying it out. It shoud be here soon!
@Mojave4ever I agree with you that the lower you can work the horse the more comfortable it will be. We have used the standard size base on ponies with no problem but we do have a new option for you to consider. We have just gotten in a new base that is 3" shorter than the standard which will be great for shorter horses and the geriatric/lame horses. If you think the shorter version would be better for your horse call us at 208-278-5283 and we can work it out.
I've watched a lot of videos of hoof trimming using the hoofjack and most of them have very frayed cradle webbing, or no webbing at all, and the horse's hoof is directly placed on the metal. Including my own farrier. Is there a way to pad the metal portion of the cradle as well.
I do like mine. I still struggle my body position. This really helps, gonna run out to the barn today and trim a horse and will keep all your points in mind.
