It was her job to find him and his son, as well as prevent humanity from harming them. She sympathized with Godzilla who was made by man out of his desire for nuclear power. He was a poor creature who was made a monster by humanity.

Godzilla communicates telepathically, hence, why the telepath girls were required to communicate with him and Godzilla Jr. So Godzilla knew that Destroyah and Jr were gong to fight and Jr would most certainly die against the more powerful Destroyah. So, it wasn't a freak accident that after so many years Godzilla just happened to melt down. He caused his own supercharge knowing it would kill him in order to resurrect his son.
