Why is it i see so many nut kicks in kenpo. I understand the whole... "Hit em' where it hurts" idea, but idk. I have a little too much dignity... I mean... Isn't it a little low? Either way aside from all that. This is really cool.
@vampateer21 i know what you mean i took kenpo for 4 years with master ed wilson and he explained that all the kenpo moves are made to escape from your attacker wether he/she/they have a weapon or not the same techniques will work.
fisheater, each generation of martial artists will add his or her own techniques to a system, and take away from that system. all martial arts technique, at some point is "made up". the key is to be able to do what you do, better than the next guy does what he does. i believe almost all styles will "work" in a fight if you train it well enough and get enough testing in.
i'm not that crazy about long techniques, like those you see i Kenpo, but i have seen many kenpo guys who are good fighters
going against basic biomechanical executions. these moves are more esoteric than practical. And Cyclone?? Wtf. people u have the internet at ur disposal find out what real martial technique and training are. don't listen to these jokers they'll get u beat up even by an average street fighter
Elements of the techniques can be used. That is the point. I attack my students at random and they can defend any situation. Proof positive. When I go and ask them to analyze what they did, they realize why they have been studying what Simonet refers to as the "dictionary of motion." Believe me - this guy knows what he is doing. He is more then capable as are his students. He is way beyond most of the crap out there today. Took me a long time to understand this stuff, too. I also questioned.
Analyzing Kenpo techniques from "what happens in fights" might mean one is missing the point. These are teaching concepts not an actual movement you would likely use in a fight. I can analyze KM movements and say they are not real, but I wouldn't. I would bet that if someone throws a left sucker punch at Mr. Simonet he will not likely use Cyclone per say. But I am sure he will use concepts from Kenpo and destroy that person just like a good Krav Maga instructor would do.
whats the point in learning techniques,if they cannt be used when the time arises in real situations, when one is belly up,looking at the stars wondering what just happened, and in regard to concepts......its like a guitar player being able to play every single chord in the book but cannt play any songs, the fight is in the man,not in the style he chooses to study. and remember......act b4 being acted upon.
theres to much going on in this technique, fights dont happen like this.fights are struggles, one needs short, quick and simple moves that require no thought. i find kempo THE LONG ROAD to krav maga
Krav is the long road to Thai. So sick of hearing that krav is the end destination. its not. I have krav instructors as students in my gym, there are holes everywhere.they after 8 years of krav get pounded by 6 month students..POUNDED..no proper answers to the fight.its ok and fine to do krav, has its strong points, but is not the end of the road. SAMBO is way more on its toes in its combat form.otherwise, kenpo has ok pts,but most is smoke and majic and D&D wet dream.
i personally dont like that technic, it is too effective, you might easily kill ur opponent with that, and that's not part of my self-defence programm.
if i remove the neck hit - and twisting, i might also except it, cause the stances are very well, i mean the disabling of the opponent by moving and grabbing him...
"better to be judged by twelve than to be killed by six!!" my motto...combat techniques should end a fight and if some idiot is stupid enough to pick a fight ..they deserve what they get- a fight is life or death its him or you...incapacitation is all that matters in a fight- i am not just defending me I have my family to think of...
i totally agree. what do you need the last hit for after breaking his neck? by chance u dont even need the twisting because u already killed him with the first neck hit...
i think its unreasonable to publish a sequence with 2-3 deadly techniques on youtube!
I actually studied THIS system of kenpo... as well as Kali, and Silat...
It has only been since the Meiji restoration that the martial sciences have been turned into martial "arts" for philosophical, and social change... for thousands of years prior to that point we didn't suffer from the delusions re: our relative "civilization" The penal system rehabilitates NOONE. Police are great (when they are actually there) but otherwise, "Welcome to Detroit where the weak are killed, and eaten"
I actually studied this same system of Kenpo upto 1st Brown belt... and I have an honest question about the actual evectiveness of the step where he simultaneously wrenches the neck w/ a groin kick... it seems unstable, and lacking the leverage to actually pull off THAT aspect/step.
But given the minomer applied to "correctional" facilities, and the fact that I am a father... I have NO problem meting out an extreme response in defense of hearth, home, wife, and children.
everyone should have a problem with killing someone.
second, it's totally unnecessary to kill ur opponend. u all should have trained ur martial arts not for killing someone, more or better just for self defence. if the situation is that bad, u could still disable ur opponend by making him faint, maybe breaking some bones or just hold him down.
after all, there is nearly no situation, where killing is morally justifyable.
And though I would agree with you re: the morality, that is a seperate development...
However given the agressiveness of the criminal element, and the fact that not everyone has a CCW, for a smaller weaker person a shot to the throat is alot more viable than holding a larger stronger heavier agressor down, or if they lack the finesse to break bones...
The value of the technique doesn't go away and the weak can't wait around for US to help.
In Kenpo we call that a "windmill", a combination of inward and outward parry. Then put the check ther and hammerfist, I never heard it called "Check, Pass, Tap" though.
My back ground is Kung Fu and I notice many elements, Tiger, WC and the initial block looks similar to snake. I find it interesting how martial arts worldwide share similar aspects. Good technique.
@senxo Karate does not originate from Japan but a small nation near Japan and its fighting style known as the Chinese Hand originates from chinese kung fu. Japan took over that nation and renamed it the Empty Hand thus karate looks similar to kung fu
@BerserkN00b, I never said it originated in Japan. I'm familiar with its history. Martial arts today is not bound by tradition. Only geeks argue about origin. Thank you for the history lesson.
They're really performed at basically the same time. If you want to, you could look at the parry as a rake to the face and the tan sao movement as a fingerjab to the throat or eyes.
I'm not a real big fan of Simonet but as far as it goes his material is pretty good, even comprehensive.
this is rather deadly looking. i hope that anyone who does this on the street likes jail, cos if you are good enough to execute this, then your skilled enough to control a person and not maim and kill them. i'd say in most developed countries this would be seen as overkill and get you in trouble, and it seems too florally for the army. not dissing the technique, just observing and stating. and i could be wrong, just stating an opinion.
I asked in another post if this is a Wing Chun guy, but I can see now it's Kenpo Karate but I see a lot of WC techniques there, very good indeed for real fighting.
I have been following him for years he knows Kenpo, Wing Chun, JKD, And different forms of Pencak Silat..He is very good as is his partner Addy Hernandez
Kenpo is brutal. I hate that we don't have a school in my area.
