  • Very good, Benita! You play this so wonderfully.

  • You play that with a lot of feeling!

  • That's because it's a beautiful etude! Thanks!

  • Beautiful! Played on wings tipped with silver! Strangely, I have always found the Opus 10 No 2 in A minor more challenging. Once again, an absolute pleasure to hear you play. Ah Chopin! He really opened up the keyboard and knew how to disembody the sound from the instrument. Bach and Chopin! They belong together for me....all in the counterpoint, I dare say....

  • Thanks! I love it, too! No.2 is also very challenging, isn't it? Bach is fantastic, too!

  • Bach is a wonder! He exemplifies for me both strength and humility. Sometimes I think if there was only Bach we'd have it all! I have just been listening to young Peter (1992) play a Musette by Bach. What an inspiration that boy is!

By the way - my favourite work by Chopin is the F minor Ballade! I've been having a love affir with it all my life! Do you play it?

  • I certainly do! What an amazing work!

  • I can't begin to tell you how much I love that Ballade. Blessings your way Benita....

  • "play it over and over until my hands cant play anymore. Then do the same the next day until its all perfect." -----That made me laugh!!! bit of a sadist your teacher haha, definately works though repitition :-)

  • Another great BR video!

  • I like that clear sound. You can hear every note on RH. But I have to agree with grigor99 that LH should be louder or it's just this recording.

  • Good solid playing, but the RH is too loud. Make more of the LH line and keep the RH softer. This will help your overall tempo too. Nice job on one of the hardest etudes!I know-I play it too!

  • Well yeah, you are definatly right about that. I will try to post the video after the performance. Do you have any suggestions for what i need to improve so that i can play this without much difficulty? My teacher just tells me to play it over and over until my hands cant play anymore. Then do the same the next day until its all perfect.

  • Continuation

Followed by etude no.4 in c# minor and finally, my favorite, Polonaise in Ab major, op.53. I really hope i dont mess up because of this Etude in Thirds.

  • I just finished learning this piece like 2 days ago. My teacher forced me to play it like double the speed of how your playing. I play almost all chopin's etudes but this etude is without a dought the hardest for me. I really dont know why, For some reason, i cannot stay relaxed when i am playing it. It feels like my fingers will fall of after every time i play it. I have another concert soon in the Wortham theatre. I will be playing this piece first, then the grand polonaise in Eb major

  • Is one ever finished learning a piece? I think not... It's one of the exciting things about music! One is always searching for more beautiful ways to play. Sounds like a nice program you're playing. Please post your performances!

  • Yea, the chromatics and the fingerings for the right hand are the hard parts.

  • Yea, I am learning this piece. Its quite challenging, but i will get it down.

Great playing by the way. Thank you for being awesome.

  • Thanks! Yeah, this is a tough one! If your technique is not in order, that will show up in this piece!

  • BRAVA BRAVA

I love watching your vids and listening to those C.D.s

  • Thank-you, Peter! So glad you're feeling better!

  • Yes, I was VERY sick but listening to your music made me feel better.

It cleared all the stuffiness, coughing, vomiting, and everything else up.

  • You make it look easy!!

    (such a difficult piece)

  • Benita, I received your friend invitation in the mail, and I would be honored! :-)

  • I am so glad. I know you are a piano lover.

  • Yep, and I love yours! :-)

  • Yet another incredible performance! 5-stars again.

  • Thanks, Josh!

  • Good bit a little slow though...

  • By the way, a nice dreamy interpretation. Very enjoyable.

  • The Etude in Thirds by Chopin is extremely difficult, but when I hear Benita Rose's rendition, it sounds like the easiest thing. For a piece to sound easy, the performer must be highly skilled, as Benita Rose is. Benita Rose's rendition is definetly a stellar performance.

  • Thank-you so much for your appreciation, piano50!

  • How does one keep their fingers together to play the thirds? I mean, can any ordinary person play this piece? My choir teacher said I couldn't ever play this piece, I've playing for five years. Is it possible? ANyway, beautiful performance. I am extremely jealous.

  • How would a Choir teacher know anything about what you can do on a Piano? How ridiculuous. It can be practiced very slowly, and once the fingers reliably execute the notes and stay coordinated, the speed is gradually increased. Not an easy etude, but possible. I recommend just practicing stupidly for a while (like 3 times a day from beginning to end whether you make mistakes or not) and then start increasing the speed.

  • Thank you! Well, my choir teacher has also been playing the piano for an ungodly amount of years, he went to school for music and all that, but it really insulted me when he told me that, considering the love I have for the piano. I have been kind of toying with it but now that you have said something, I will most absolutely take your advice and put it to good use, thank you!

  • Sounds like your teacher is perhaps a good player (perhaps) but not a good teacher. It happens. I suggest that you find a good teacher, one who has a good reputation for the quality of the students (not their own playing). Good teachers usually cost more, but it is worth it. Also, what you will need is a lot of time for practice. Good luck.

  • Thank you, I have been trying to find a teacher, I usually play for three hours a day anyway, so time is never an issue, just the right teacher.

  • It's not as hard as people think you just have to put a lot of time into it.

  • She chose a bad text otherwise her performance was decent. Ths is perhaps the easiest etude to learn and MEMORIZE (took me 3 weeks only) but the most difficult to mature and get polished up to performance standard - it could take YEARS even for a Rubinstein!

  • Hello, pchk1! Thanks for visiting! I would love to hear your rendition of this. Please post it!

  • Oh it had too many flaws! I'd rather not publicize it. Feel free to e-mail me at pchk-at-hkstar-dot-com so I can show you privately. I even have a crude performance of Liszt Feux Follets on DVD (also not quite showable!), if I can turn it into video.

Our difference is the text in the RH at Bar 7. I play the top note as A rather than A#.

I like your tempo. This piece is often played way too fast. I hate that because it doesn't sound right at all and oh, I can't play it that fast, haha(!!)

  • wow!!!! beautiful melody, very technical fingers, 5 stars from me!!!

  • Thank-you!
