Follow up... I'm interested in what you think of the coils. I'd like to do some gold prospecting, but also relic, coin and beach hunting. The guy at the local shop things the 705 gold pack and a 6inc DD HD would be great for me. Do you think that would suffice for pretty much all general metal detecting? Or should I get the standard 705 for it's coil (instead of the elliptical?) and also the 6inch dd hd for any gold detecting I may want to do? I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!
Might shine your light on the ground in front of you once in awhile, there could be a deep shaft. Almost walked in to one cause I was looking up most of the time ! Lol !!
I just bought a metal detector and i hunted only 3 times with my girlfriend.I found nothing but crap yet. I tought about going to abandoned mines in my region with it. But most of those mines entrances have disapeared. I will just check around for old objects. Nice vid.
@vinceconditioning I like your video, thanks for posting it. I'm into rock hounding and exploring for gold/silver, too, in Arizona. With a metal detector, I always search the piles of tailings laying outside the mines. It's a great place to find little bits of precious metals that got overlooked! Happy hunting!
Thanks for the comment. I wanted to bring a coleman lantern but I was worried about the carbom minoxide gas it produces. Im not sure if there is enough airflow to safely use one?
@ws65150 i like the colmen lanterns the best but if i were you i would just use an eletric lantern if your not worried a bout makeing noise get a jenirater and keep it out side and get 200' of extention cord and a drop light and you can power your light and a rodo hammer with out running out of batterys
Cool mine and video, but just a word of advice that was given to me by some very experienced prospectors. Old mines are very dangerous as you saw by the cave ins. Could be poisonous gasses, etc. Not trying to talk crap, I was just told if you don't really know what you're doing one should stay out of old mine shafts.
You are absolutely correct. We had an attendent ay the mine opening and a sniffer to verify we were in the 19 to 21% part oxygen as required for us to breath. Im confined space entry certified, and I was still worried. I wasnt willing to pass the cave in. Thanks for the comment.
were do you get that sniffer? and are they cheap? this summer i plan on checking out as many as 7 mines here near me, and that sniffer would be "really " a life saver!
I have access through the company that I work for. It is part of a confined space kit I use for high voltage cable splicing inside of underground utility vaults. It checks for o2, no2, h2s, and flamable atmosphere. It will alert BEFOR toxic levels are reached. Definieatly a must while underground. It needs to be calibrated every 30 days.
digging in the mine or on the river? when you go into those mines check the walls for small open crystel pockets. if you find them and can chisel around them to remove them you might retreive a pretty penny retail?!
Hard time digging in the mine, we only ran 2 buckets through the sluice box. Found some small flecks. Still better then being at work or stuck on the couch!

Is the air thin there? You're breathing pretty heavy. I'd take care to get an oxygen detector.
