Numerous owners of brand new 17-inch MacBook Pro are complaining that their video cards or perhaps notebooks are failing. The new $2,799 MacBook, which was debuted in January at Macworld, features both GeForce 9600M and GeForce 9400M mobile graphics cards from NVIDIA. Owners are now reporting that their laptops have started to show random green lines, artifacts on the display, blank screens and a certain symptom for failing video card.
I had this problem on my W85 G4 17" I took the keyboard off and found that the cable that goes to the monitor seems to make a better connection if it is NOT seated properly the way it seems like it should be but slightly on the diagonal. You have to power up the computer with the keyboard temporarily hooked up and then once you get it booted take the keyboard back off and start to wiggle the video cable. No lines for 3 months so far!
I spent 1600€ for nothing..just to get 5 vertical lines on my screen. This is not acceptable. How can apple sell such a crappy product. After the warranty year expired 5 lines appeared!! And there's nothing i can do
I have the same problem with my 2300 Euro PowerBook G4 17"... The old High-End-Model! After 2 years it´s TRASH!!! I´m fed up, using a notebook with now 10 lines... Dell fix the problem for their customers... And Apple???? SHAME!!!!!
Defect mainly affectS Powerbook 17" screens with serial numbers starting W85 from an Apple Shanghai factory early 2005.
DELL has the same defects in a number of models with screens made at the same time. However, DELL recognizes the defects and pays for the replacement and thus is taking their responsibility, unlike Apple. There are more quality problems with Apple Powerbooks. SHAME ON APPLE!
i have exactly the same problem, even the same coloured yellow line in the same place as you. you have prob seen it but go to the bridget riley powerbook site for hundreds of other cases
i had the same vertical line problem. the visa card i used to purchase my PB extended my apple warranty by another year. so apple repaired the lcd and visa paid the bill under their extended warranty program. hope that can help others.
try lcd scrub... a handy app for troubleshooting and fixing this issue.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
its an LCD screen. if you keep PLAYING & touching the screen like a bunch of FCKING 16yr. old MORONS YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE.
I've had 2 powerbooks and so far no problems at all...
you take care of it and it takes car of you
try selling a 2yr old piece of crap PC laptop, your lucky if you get 100bucks
and with a powermac or powerbook you always make your money back

There's no way I'm paying $1000 to repair my Powerbooks display. I've treated it like a baby. I'd rather buy a PC !
