YOU GO DAWG! I'm trying really hard to learn this one too...Just got the book you have and it's a godsend...but still...I can't imagine the skill Leo has as I dig deeper into his music. CFLanger, please post more videos of this as you continue to get it down the way you want.
Thanks for sharing this clip. It's interesting to see how other guitar players approach learning a song, especially a difficult fingerstyle piece. It seems you learn a whole song gradually where I completely learn a couple of measures until I have it down without even looking at the rest of the piece.
Thanks for commenting. To a certain degree you are correct. Many times I like to be able to just get through the tune in its entirety without developing too many bad habits. I go for the instant gratification but I'll always return to sections that need more focus. What viewers don't see in this video is the hours of mindless repetition that it took to get to this point. I have a lot of fun studying and learning Leo Kottke's work so I share my attempts at imitating the master.
Some great playing and progress there! It's encouraging and also reassuring to see the stages of players accomplishments and also the stumbling blocks on display when learning Leo's pieces. Reminds me I am not alone! All the best with your continued efforts.
Coming along, good progress. You've definately got the feel for the tune. Finish it up! =] So I can learn from this in a couple years when I'm ready =P
Coming right along! It's not an easy song to learn. The hard part for me is maintaining that staccato beat, which is at the heart of a lot of Leo tunes. Checked out little Macyn Taylor (Busker12 on Youtube). Amazing at the ripe old age of 14 now I think. She plays quite a few Leo songs, Ojo, Snorkel, June Bug, etc.
Thanks for posting this. Hopefully I can learn some missing bits. I learned it from TAB and a half speed cassette tape. I don't read music at all and am not a "natural" musician.
