  • What a treat to watch, thanks for the video.

  • Thanks ! First time seeing this video!

  • One of the most joyous musicians ever. His whole being lights up when he plays.

  • Wow - Wes takin' Jazz -- Incredible! The pianist must be the Dutch Legend - Pim Jakobs and most probably his brother Ruud Jakobs ? Who is on drums?

  • @jazzroom Sorry , answering my own question - just recognised the dutch drummer - Han Bennink ,..... wow , i played with him in the 90's and even recorded once. wat a great rare video - thanks for sharing! P.S. haha, all the names are mentioned at the end of the second vide0 ;)

  • @jazzroom Humbly, suggest in best Charlie Chan fashion, " am in same boat of forgetfulness at 67." Just wanted to throw in here, checking out the, 'Last Date" DVD- you get to see Han Bennink, and watch his group play, "live" in modern studio...all the cats reminiscing about Eric Dolphy. Wonderful tribute to Eric, another Idol who is sorely missed.

  • This is the single greatest Guitar AND Music lesson ever filmed....

  • @sitarnut

I just hope you dont just play the sitar! lol

All instruments are good, sitar included, and you are right.

    What a lesson.

    What a man.

  • @twixttime Thanks for feedback.. I play about thirteen different instruments- started on Clarinet & Alto in 1958..when we bought our first two WES LPs "Trio" & "Incredible Jazz Guitar" my brother and I went on permanent melt-down - have never recovered. Our "Sanitarium" music is here on YT- Griffin Bros. with kitty Art. Carlos Santana in his film, "Influences" simply says, "You tell your mind to shut up and listen to Wes Montgomery!"

  • @sitarnut

Wow, thats a real long playin meltdown!

Wes melts everything that hears him.

Wouldnt it be awful if in his next life he isnt reborn to play geetar.

Like he came back a doctor or roadsweeper.

Let alone a martian or frog!

Whats it all about if that is the lot of all men and mice?

  • ahah as soon as everything comes together he looks like the happiest chap in the world !!! what a cool dude this wes is......shame he died so young !!! paix a son ame !

  • NIIIIIIIIIIICE! I'm in tears, thanks for posting this! Wes is soooooooooo great!

  • this is pure gold, thanks for sharing :)

Wes' smile is the epithome of coolness :D

    Peace out.

  • This is the first time I've seen a video of him at rehearsal. I like the way he works

with the pianist to derive the chord structure while paraphrasing the melody for

him, then they break into the melody together. He is so smo-o-th!

A guitar player's jazz guitar player. Wes, you were the greatest! I'm was your

biggest fan 45 years ago and still am today!

  • I started listening to Wes 10 years ago or so. It is so nice to see that in video format he has played right into the future.

  • The man just made jazz fun and classy.

  • Nobody has cut WES yet- and never will. Pim and those guys are getting the lesson of their lives....

  • Ah! that smile!

  • pure jazz

    pure wes

  • After all that you read about Wes and after listening to his music for years, it is so great to watch him at work...he's humble, unassuming, very detail-oriented, patient, warm, and his playing is fantastic! And you can tell this band is pinching themselves and at the same time acting cool about it. What a kick....

  • No "gap" between what he "hears" and what he plays....what every musician strives for.

  • My words alone cannot describe....with all of todays technology we are unable to near match wes montogomery's ability. Thanks for posting.

  • This is the kind of thing that makes me think youtube is the greatest thing EVER. Wherever would would get to see and hear wonderful things like this. Thanks for posting this mate.

  • What a priviledge to be able to witness this moment in time.

  • What a privilege to get to witness this, what near-Holy Grail for any guitar player...

Wes had no theoretical background, could not read music, and "had ears like an elephant." (A verbatim quote from Bill Leavitt to me over lunch at the Newbury Steak House.)

His ability to convey what he wanted is equaled by the sympathetic intelligence of the pianist, and I admire him as well.

  • It's amazing to watch & hear Wes verbalize with the other musicians. What a treasure! Thanks for posting, Made my Day!

  • well...sometimes you can believe that after the great Wes, no more music is neccesary in the world

  • this is amazing

  • This is priceless.

  • End of a Love Affair...
