Dude, the Bay Bridge Inn bit made me laugh hard. I stayed in that motel for about 3 months while on a plumbing gig on MLK street. When I rented the room and checked it out, the bathroom and carpet was covered in blood, and I don't mean just a little bit. When I called in for new room, they insisted I clean it instead. I insisted they clean it, so they sent someone up with a bottle of windex and some paper towels who complained at me the whole time.

If you live in Oakland for an extended period, odds are, something bad will happen to you. I only lived there 2 years, not even in a bad area (or so I thought), but in that time I got into a fight, a kid was killed on the street corner right outside my apartment in broad daylight, and on more than one occasion, all the cars parked at the curb had their windows smashed. I was also woken up at 3am a few times by fights involving knives/guns and car chases that ended with crashes outside my window.

@blissfullydead89 The area that has about 85% of the horrible crimes/shootings you hear about is an area known as East Oakland, but even there it's usually only dangerous late at night/early morning hours. I've been to Dallas more than a few times and can tell you Oakland generally is no more dangerous than Dallas, but use common sense when out and about in a big city at night and also stay out of neighborhoods that look really rough - it's like playing russian roulette with your safety.

If you live in Oakland for an extended period, odds are, something bad will happen to you. I only lived there 2 years, not even in a bad area (or so I thought), but in that time I got into a fight, a kid was killed on the street corner right outside my apartment in broad daylight, and on more than one occasion, all the cars parked at the curb had their windows smashed. I was also woken up at 3am a few times by fights involving knives/guns and car chases that ended with crashes outside my window.

I lived right around the corner from the Parkway Theatre (before it even was a theatre) for 8 years and can attest that Oakland is indeed a dying shithole of a city. And that part of Lake Merritt was considered the GOOD part of town. I always thought the lake gave off the essence of eau de toilette of french whore's vagina.
