GM designers found that the new body style had less drag and actually took off a few pounds(not an exact numbers man but I have read it was surprissingly noticable
I know the reasoning for why GM changed the body style. But that cut-off rear deck is not a GM design (Unless they produce a German Corvette and that's what it looks like)

The Veyron needs about 200 hp to hit 100mph (low co-efficient drag), but needs 800 to get to 253 mph. The wind resistance (r) increases by a square value as you go faster.

It was a close quarter mile and when they were on the highway when the ford started to pull the corvette guy backed out it would have been a good race still the ford gt would have had him. Corvette held its own for being down on so much power and that's a lot of power when your talking Supercars that weigh about the same. good video

Also, the zr1 smokes the GT if both cars are stock, so of course if its a 1/4 mile the GT-R will win, but anything beyond that the GT-R will fall way behind. If all these cars were stock, the Zr1 would always come in first, with the GT quick behind.

There are no official ring times for production cars, only people, (and as of late) manufactures making 'claims' using their OWN timing equipment. Ford never brought a GT to the ring with professional drivers to get fast times like GM did with the ZR1.
That being said, the ZR1 would likely be faster, but only because it has nearly 100hp on it out of the box. The Ford GT is now an 8 year old car, naturally something faster is out now.

I'd get that GT anyday over the ZR1, but to be fair the vette comes stock with 620hp and this one has 680. Not a fair comparison. Even if the GT was slower, just a better looking car.

If the ZR1 has a 6.2 liter engine and the GT only has a truck based 5.4 liter and built by the same engine builder. Why does the GT have 100 more horse? Don't get me wrong I love the ford GT would be my first car to buy if I hit the lottery, but being suped up by the same company you'd think the ZR1 would have a few more ponies. the GT does have a lil supercharger in it, but the vette has 1 liter more in displacement.

DAMN!! That GT is fu**in' FAST. It takes alot (ALOT) of power to surpass the double-century mark on those speedo's. The wind resistance is the main problem. Ex. The Veyron needs about 200 hp to hit 100mph (low co-efficient drag), but needs 800 to get to 253 mph. The wind resistance (r) increases by a square value as you go faster.

It was a close quarter mile and when they were on the highway when the ford started to pull the corvette guy backed out it would have been a good race still the ford gt would have had him. Corvette held its own for being down on so much power and that's a lot of power when your talking Supercars that weigh about the same. good video

Also, the zr1 smokes the GT if both cars are stock, so of course if its a 1/4 mile the GT-R will win, but anything beyond that the GT-R will fall way behind. GT-R is an awesome car, but these rear-wheel drive cars are totally different animals, and I personally prefer the zr1 over the GT-R. The Ford GT is really not too much of a performance car its more of a super muscle sports car.If that makes sense

@The402sTexasboy depends on what dude, the GT is heavier with a smaller 5.2L vs the 6.2L on the zr1, plus around a track the zr1 will spank the GT and the GTR, just check the Nurburgring race track time in Germany, the zr1 has a time of 7:19.63, and the GTR has a time of 7:24.22, which is slower even than the corvette z06 which has a time on the nurburgring of 7:22.68. If all these cars were stock, the Zr1 would always come in first, with the GT quick behind.

@woohoo800 It's a 5.4L, and the Nurburgring is irrelevant. There are no official ring times for production cars, only people, (and as of late) manufactures making 'claims' using their OWN timing equipment. Ford never brought a GT to the ring with professional drivers to get fast times like GM did with the ZR1.
That being said, the ZR1 would likely be faster, but only because it has nearly 100hp on it out of the box. The Ford GT is now an 8 year old car, naturally something faster is out now.

The only OFFICIAL lap times at the Nurburgring are set by race cars at sanctioned events. They don't run their timing equipment for "production cars". It's been a known fact EVERYONE seems to overlook. ;-)
