I was at this show (and several other Brainiac gigs) when I lived in Dayton from 95-98. Their live shows were always fabulous while their albums were pretty much dreadful. If I remember correctly, I saw them with Posterchildren, Tammy and the Amps, and Guided By Voices at various times. I don't think the audiences moved much at any of their shows. You couldn't dance to it and the crowd, which was usually there to see a different band, was not the slam-dancing type. RIP Timmy Taylor.
I remember when I lived in Atanta I was selling a bass rig and some guy called me up trying to get me to play bass with his band. He said he moved to Hotlanta with a couple other guys from Dayton, Ohio. I asked him about Brainiac and he said they were not familiar with them. I told him he was clueless and hung up on him. I guess that was kind of snotty but I loved Brainiac so much I could'nt fathom musicians from the same town not having heard of them.
I've posted pretty much every song from Bonsai Superstar and Hissing Prigs on here. Check 'em out before they're gone, which I have a feeling will happen sometime soon.
ya, they were really innovative. All my friends listen to screamo hardcore... theres no appreciation or even recognition for the bands that started it all like joy division, at the drive in, minor threat, BRANIAC... haha good stuff though
Man, that audience is a bit stiff! I think the lack of crowd appreciation speaks volumes. Brainiac were unknown to the majority and loved by a small few in their prime. I still play the shit out of Bonsai Superstar and Hissing Prigs... Let's hope that the kids of tomorrow recognize Brainiac's genius.
ohio in the early-mid nineties! saw these dudes at The Union in athens. i remember being shocked at how good they were. at that time (i was barely 21) all music seemed fresh and i was discovering new stuff daily. in retrospect i'm shocked at how original and completely ahead of their time brainiac was.
I saw these guys live in Dayton in 95. I don't think these videos do there sound justice. They were awesomeSexual Frustration killed, but the toughest punk sound in Dayton in the mid 90's was the Wild Bores, with out a doubt, they just quit too soon.
Brainiac was the greatest band ever! Brainiac represented the essence of the Dayton music sound in the 90's. There epic sets blew people away and they were off the stage before the spectators knew what hit them.
@mcweber83191 Since Brainiac is in like the top 3 bands of all time, I'm guessing the band that they were opening for wasn't part of the top 3 of all time so it's safe to say this crowd is fucking terrible
@mcweber83191 I can explain...it's because Dayton Ohio is one of the lamest towns in America. This is way above there head, Dayton is just a bunch of hillbillies and douchebags.
I would have lost all of my shits at this show.

bonsaiisuperstar, thanks for your response. i ordered the right spin.
i remember there was an interview w/ tim about a week before he died where he told his guitar tuning
& what the new album would sound like.
it was 4 a uk publication & would of been when they were on tour over there. if anybody has this,
PLEASE CONTACT ME.
I love this band more than words could ever do justice.
Snarg3000 2 years ago
Dont remember the name of that one. Tuning is E, A, D, B flat, B, E. The B flat gives it the "retardo" sound.
bonsaiisuperstar 2 years ago
no. that wasn't the tuning tim gave in the interview.
please, if anybody knows that interview, which i guess is no longer on the net... please post.

I'm a huge Brainiac fan.
Does anybody know what 1996 issue of Spin the band is featured in a Fashion Section? As well as any other cool magazine articles.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure of the month. Cover has the Smashing Pumpkins looking all alien like. Has pics from SXSW.

Thanks! Yeah, I ordered it off eBay.
