@jsmorel86 Yea, sorry about that. I was using my olk Nikon S4 to shoot the video. And I had it in a bad location and the wrong settings, etc. Just lots of excuses. My other videos are a lot better. Even had someone taping from outside the car.
know what you are saying...i used to do that, too... i thought it was hard on my drivetrain, so went back to lifting a bit..still got four gear rubber! reason i said that was because one of the great drag racers recently died and that was how he did it...ronnie sox in his hemi cuda...i believe he has youtube videos on here; and a guy i knew years ago had one of those systems on his yamaha drag bike...didn't shut off the power, just shut ignition off for a split second so gear would release
power shifting, per se, is actually done like a 13 speed in a semi...full power, then let off the power just enough so you can pull it out of gear and get it in the next gear as you put full power back on...the drag bikes do it that way, only they use a button with an air mechanism that kills the engine for a split second and shifts the gear for you, then full on again ....
@howienorth I"m sorry, but you are wrong. There is no lifting of power. It's called "power shifting" short for "under full power shifting." it's also called "flat footed" shifting because the pedal remains flat against the floor and power is never reduced or interrupted. You are also wrong about the shifting on the drag bikes. Power is not interrupted either.
@is300ss Not really. You lose power to the drivetrain the moment you hit the clutch. The engine hits the rev limiter when you depress the clutch even for the shortest time. The gas pedal is on the floor (WOT) so the moment the clutch disengages the engine it free runs and hits the limiter. In the old days we had very crude rev limiters that took a long time (relatively) to react. However the new modern rev limits are all "soft" limiters and react much faster. So the lose of power is negligible.
@awd3atms yes obviously no power is being made as soon as the clutch is disengaged. sorry i should have worded that better... IF you hit the rev limiter when flat foot shifting (thanks for the new terminology btw) in a turbo chargerd vehicle the boost is lost and needs to build again causing you to lose power making the flat foot shift pointless. however if you dont hit the limiter when flat footing then no boost is lost. power is cut off for a split second, but the point is to not lose boost
and you dont ALWAYS hit the rev limiter as soon as u hit the clutch. for instant if you shift 500rpm before your redline and your quick about it ;) then u should be in good shape. this all depends on the vehicle and the driver of course. go for it, flat foot shift even early, its fun, give it a whirl
@fran20055 This was my first time on this track with this car and I didn't know how much power it would hold so I was just making an estimated guess and working my way up. Some of my other vids show a better launch.
@1englandnigga , it's only on the rev limiter for a few seconds. it's not going to cause overheating. Banging off the limiter has no detrimental effects on the engine at all. Yea it sounds nasty, but every serious drag racer has been doing it since MSD came out with the two step system almost twenty years ago.
it means that you have your right foot flat on the gas and just keep using your clutch when upshifting without realsing the gas... thats the way i understand it so far
What you say is true, but the clutch is the weakest link in the chain & if you don't get the "easing out" just perfect, you can fry it. So I prefer to dump the clutch. The STi trans is tough & seems to take it w/o breaking.
You are right on the time. I have a wicked 60' time of 1.58 but I could really smell the clutch on that run. :-) So now I try to find the right rpm for the track conditions to get the tires to just break loose a little to relieve the stress on the drivetrain.
i got an 05 stage 2 stock clutch, 5700 rpm seems to work really good for me , and yeah i dont dump it, just let out the first half of the clutch very briskly and then the other half of the pedal ease out to keep up the boost, i got it after practicing maybe 3 or 4 launch attemps, you can really feel it. better luck next time eh :)
Powershifting is shifting, using the clutch but never lifting on the throttle. ie, the power is never interrupted. That's why they call it "power shifting." It's short for "always under power shifting."
The current term for powershifting is "flat footed shifting."
Clutchless shifting requires a clutchless transmission like a Jerico or Lenco. A synchro'd transmission can't be shifted clutchless.
This was my first time on this track with this car and I didn't know how much it would hold so I was just makign and estimated guess and working my way up. On my other videos I upped the launch rpm and it's much better.

power is lost IF YOU HIT THE LIMITER

Shifting w/o living off the gas pedal.
awd3atms 2 years ago
@awd3atms wouldnt that damage the engine or tranny by doing that?
1englandnigga 1 year ago
@1englandnigga , not damage the engine and probably not damage the trans, but it would be possible.
awd3atms 1 year ago
@awd3atms it might damage the engine or cause it to overjeat maybe cos it'll be hitting the red area. and whats that beeping noise?

Not lifting between shifts. its useful in turbo cars so boost doesn't drop off during shifts.

clutch dump, bad for tranny, try easing out from LC better times and higher rpm i noticed yours dropped, try that dont just dump the clutch

Is the idea with powershifting that you take it out of gear without depressing the clutch and then only tap the clutch to get it into the next gear?
