Yea ... The key change is pretty hardcore tbh. When I'm really warmed up, I can sing it half a tone lower than the original. But it's hard as hell, and one must always be careful not to stretch and hurt oneself.
i totally feel ya man, i can sing it on tone but only about 3 times before i am just about done singing entirely, my band and i play some of these songs and we want to save this for last, but we always do it first just so i can sing it properly.
that I know, but WHO is Gina and Tommy? Jon and Sambora wrote it with Desmond Child but since he says "...whereever she is", he might be referring to a certain someone.
well it appears to be that Tommy is actually Tom Keifer, who was the leadsinger of 'Cindarella'.. an 80's band. he was a good friend of Jon. And it seems that he used to have a girlfriend called Gina. the story Jon sings about them is real though.. they were poor and hardly getting through live..
You sure? In another live video he states "only the names have been changed to protect the innocent" which indicated that the real names weren't Tommy & Gina. But I dunno...
Yeah i know that video. Wanted dead or alive and prayer 89 right? Acoustic with Richie.. I know he says that right there but in some other interview he does say that Tommy is Tom Keifer, so i guess that's who we were looking for, but well, im not sure to.. i guess jon speaks the truth ;)
finally (i think) the only recording where jon is definatly singing the whole thing, i mean that in others he maybe is but i think on this one there is no doubt about it?!
I was just about to tell you that he's playbacking, then I heard the key change ... greatly sung ... really ... but my throat just hurts when I listen to him screaming like that ... that is why he damaged his cords :S
RARE sh*t eh? LMAO. Can't believe it is finally available on the net - been waiting for this one man. Chorus fully done, KEY CHANGE finally heard live. This is great.

wow one of the only live ones where they didnt de-tune a note lower (to make it easier to sing) like they (and most over bands) do

a wild guess would be Jon being Tommy and Gina being a previous girlfriend?
Sabiano 3 years ago
The song is about a fictional working class couple, Tommy and Gina, who struggle to make ends meet and maintain their relationship.

That's the one! Great acoustic version! Love the lick Sambora throws in the first verse!
If that's true then I guess it was Tom Keifer...Would be cool to have such an enormous rock classic written about yourself :-P
