I just saw Nightwish two hours ago at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, and when Anette performed...goodness she was woderful. not even 'pop' sounding at all. She sounded even better than the CD! and she had so much charisma too. at first I thought that they would never perform this song, but wow! Anette can handle it pretty well. it's nice to hear Anette's take on this song.
and you wanna know who the real wannabe sirens are?
those siren girls that perform at the Las Vegas: Treasure Island hotel/casino. they sound way more pop than Anette, and some of their songs are terrible.
and if you don't like it...there's still Tarja doing Nightwish covers. =)

You know, even though I love Annette, I used to think "she should never even attempt The Siren", but I was horribly wrong. I love her versions of the "fillers" sung between the lyrics of the verses (at 0:22) much better than Tarja's version.
Actually I have to disagree with you, I like the fillers in between the verses Tarja did much more than Anette's, honestly I think it sounds "forced", however her background singing at the Chorus, when Marco sings, is lovely...

Honestly she hasn't gotten into this song at all in my opinion. Never in my life did I or will i picture sounding like that. Not meaning that in an offencive way but Tarja's voice/way seems more...siren-like.
I think I would like this video a lot more if it had higher quality...
Other than that, I think it was good until the part where Tarja would sing "ah ah ah ah" and she did something kinda like she did in...Sahara, I think it is. She sounded good on the stanza beforehand though

I'm guessing the ahhs in the chorus, but the only reason she doesn't go up there is because it'd go in to her hewad voice. Her bridge to her head voice probably isn't very strong so her voice would crack and ruin the atmosphere... And would sound horrible. She has just the range as Tarja she doesn't use it because it isn't as strong and Tarja would sound obvously superior.

Once more, Anette shows us that she isn't anywhere near Tarja when it comes to singing technique. Her lower register is great,no doubt about that. But a singer in Nightwish who can't even hit an f? She just doesn't do the old songs justice.

its growing on me, Tarja was this strong ice cold nordic beauty, nearly perfect vocal, but i really lke what anette´s doing, it´s making nightwish warmer and easy listening, and it´s a good thing, i like how she sings different not only than tarja, but different each song, i mean, Tarja as perfect as she still is, every song was the same soft voice, powerful clasical style vibratoo etc, but anette has a deep feeling and that´s really great to hear, she´s a great performer

I think the way she does the chants between each line and after the keyboard solo fits the song well. I don't know if it fits the actual SONG better or it fits her VOCALS better hence fits the song better because she's singing it. Either way, she's doing a good job. I don't think the videos do her vocals justice to be honest. She was amazing live last night.

What I mean is that the songs were CLASSICALLY sung. Anette has ZERO Classical sound to her vocals yet she sang some old stuff close-to-better than Tarja herself! Sleeping Sun, Ever Dream, She Is My Sin, D.C.O.W for example. I got bored of the old version. Now whenever I come across a video of Anette's cover I HAVE to watch it no matter WHAT.

Honestly she hasn't gotten into this song at all in my opinion. Never in my life did I or will i picture sounding like that. Not meaning that in an offencive way but Tarja's voice/way seems more...siren-like.

Other than that, I think it was good until the part where Tarja would sing "ah ah ah ah" and she did something kinda like she did in...Sahara, I think it is. She sounded good on the stanza beforehand though

I'm ok with most other retakes on the old NW songs, but in this one it simply doesn't stick, as far as I'm concerned.
A siren is a women who has an ethereal, soft, haunting voice.
Anetter has a good voice, but it's none of the above. So for this songs, it pretty much missed the point for me.

I'm guessing the ahhs in the chorus, but the only reason she doesn't go up there is because it'd go in to her hewad voice. Her bridge to her head voice probably isn't very strong so her voice would crack and ruin the atmosphere... And would sound horrible. She has just the range as Tarja she doesn't use it because it isn't as strong and Tarja would sound obvously superior.

Once more, Anette shows us that she isn't anywhere near Tarja when it comes to singing technique. Her lower register is great,no doubt about that. But a singer in Nightwish who can't even hit an f? She just doesn't do the old songs justice.

its growing on me, Tarja was this strong ice cold nordic beauty, nearly perfect vocal, but i really lke what anette´s doing, it´s making nightwish warmer and easy listening, and it´s a good thing, i like how she sings different not only than tarja, but different each song, i mean, Tarja as perfect as she still is, every song was the same soft voice, powerful clasical style vibratoo etc, but anette has a deep feeling and that´s really great to hear, she´s a great performer

I think the way she does the chants between each line and after the keyboard solo fits the song well. I don't know if it fits the actual SONG better or it fits her VOCALS better hence fits the song better because she's singing it. Either way, she's doing a good job. I don't think the videos do her vocals justice to be honest. She was amazing live last night.

What I mean is that the songs were CLASSICALLY sung. Anette has ZERO Classical sound to her vocals yet she sang some old stuff close-to-better than Tarja herself! Sleeping Sun, Ever Dream, She Is My Sin, D.C.O.W for example. I got bored of the old version. Now whenever I come across a video of Anette's cover I HAVE to watch it no matter WHAT.
