  • I was the pianist at the Mars Club in Paris,Art Simmons & I, and Bud was across the street at Ben Benjamin's Blue Note with Klook and Oscar Pettiford. Man, every hour break I had, I ran across to listen to Bud. What a schooling that was! Tatum & Bud! Who else? Stuart de Silva. Now retired, living in Sydney,Oz, but still listening to Bud.

  • yeah fair enough... Sonny is very articulate. I was wrong and foolish, i'm wiser now!

  • Wonderful to hear those memories of Bud : ))

  • I clearly understood everything the man said. He is very articulate and we are blessed to have him still with us. Respect due!

  • He's telling a story. The way he tells the story is the charm. It inspires me.

  • Sonny rules!! Listen and learn. That is all.

  • why are you idiots disrespecting such a great musical giant. What has any of you did that makes you so much smarter or better than him.

He gets his point across very well. If you want to know the history of this music ,he is a living source. He was there and helped create this music. You idiot so called intellectuals.

  • the reasons they do it is: 1. they are out of touch with their own true best selves so they talk like idiots; 2. they are so insecure that they are trying to prove their own value to themselves and the only way they know how to do it is to bring down somebody of substance and depth, thereby blinding themselves to this man's warmth, sincerity and greatness; 3. his talking is fascinating and shows him to be a fine man.

  • he is old! of course he rambles on and takes a while to say what he has to say! OLD PEOPLE DO THAT!

  • he's only in his 70's

my grandpa is in his 80's and he's still pretty alert like sonny rollins

  • What a Gem

  • I agree with what a lot of you are saying.

Mr Rollins means what he says, and I respect him enormously.

Unfortunately talking is not is natural medium.

  • is not is?

  • Not so unfortunate in my point of view. I'd rather have him play than talk.

  • Unscripted,no doubt. How great would Reagan have been without his promptors. How articulate would MLKing had been without his notes to follow.

  • Reagan?! hahahaha

  • I find it kind of funny that Bird said, "I dont want to play with Bud cos he gets 'too high' '" haha thats really something coming from Bird.

  • I love this sax

  • i heard jeremy pelt quote from fats extensivly at a gig recently , that blue note session is a classic . have you guys heard sacha perry ? the closest ive heard to bud in recent years !!!! check out my vid response .

  • BUD WAS THE MAN!!!!!!!1

  • Thanx for this posting..it's really great to hear people who were there talking about that era...

  • thanks for all this music info...gba

  • Bud Powell was a genius.

  • Thanks, for this insight

  • well he's not as articulate as some jazz musicians, but his sax playing speaks for him!

  • To that I wholeheartedly agree!

  • hell u talking about? sonny is as studious and smart as they come. I'm not sure what your criteria for articulating the language is. for all the things sonny rollins IS first thing you can say is what he is not? That is a shame. He has contributed in such a way that folks should pay him more respect.

  • @BuckshotLaFunke

He is a musician not a fucking tv/radio presenter.....his presence is the insight no matter what he says.

  • It´s quite possible to love and appreciate both Bud and Al Haig, who was according to Bud himself"My idea of a perfect pianist".
