@crazygangsterhobo I'm not sure, but I think Yami means something like "dark" in Japanese. So Yami Yugi would literally mean "dark Yugi". It's not supposed to be his name, just something he's called. The localisation team at 4kids must have fucked up. That's my two cents, anyway.

About the whole "your name is Yami" thing. I always thought it was just a title he had. In fact, in one episode Tea asks if Yami was his name and Yami doesn't respond. The show never really claimed that was his real name. Just that they can call him that.
