It took awhile for CD's to catch on, it wasn't until about 1992/93 that I gave up my cassettes. I didn't like the sound of a CD at first, It seemed bland and artifical where as a cassette seemed alive and bold, just my opinion, what do you think?
The reason was a lot of the early transfers to CD's were done in a rush. Way too often they sounded worse than vinyls. Since more and more people (especially the youth) abandoned the vinyls and loved the convenience of the CD, so transfers were sloppy with a few exceptions.
It wasn't until the "remasters" appeared CD's really came into their stride in my opinion.
I never owned a LP player, but have been thinking of purchasing one, since I like high-end analogue brilliance.
It is a rebadged Sanyo DAD 8 Compact Disk player. I bought one new back around 1984 for $349. It played nice, but switching between programs took too long.
Never seen a CD player automatically play the 'lead-in' part at the beginning (where it counts down 2 seconds prior to the start of the first track.) I've had a habit of pausing mine when starting a disc and scanning backwards to play this part- all discs have at least 2-3 seconds of silence, and some have hidden songs!
@TheDustpile That still doesn't stop people from touching the CD on a standard drawer. I know people who do that and I cringe when I see that. Same with vinyl.
I have 11,000 songs in my iPhone 4... Now THAT'S convenience! lol

bad response time if you look at the Philips and Sony models from that time, but the way the door works is just lovely.

This cd player is as old as I am. Are cd players obsolete?
JJ9715 2 years ago
If it is as old as you why don't you get a girlfriend and spend time with her rather than posting stupid comments?

I wish someone would make a DVD player that loads vertically. That would be cool.
StarionX 2 years ago 10
@StarionX No. It would mean getting fingerprints and blemishes on the disc. Vertical loading was much clumsier.

I had one of these players in 1983 - it sucked!
Always getting errors starting CDs - eventually it just gave-up reading any CDs at all.

Nice! I have the "big brother" Sanyo DAD-M15. And are lucky to have Micro Seiki CD-M1 to, both vertical loaders.

Why do those digit displays flicker so much? Some kind of video defect?
Nice player anyhow ;) 12bit DAC on-board if I remember correctly?
