@stellasdaddyful Whoa...First of all, this is NOT lip-synched. I, too, have seen Leon live many times, and he has never lip-synched. Second, most if not all of the drugs he's been taking are doctor prescribed. I don't know if you are aware of this, but Leon has been in poor health for years due to a fissure or crack in the part of his brain stem that's above his sinus cavity that has caused headaches worse than migraines. He's had brain surgery 4 times to try to repair it, the latest in January.
Leon Russel Looks Like Ronnie Hawkins ....lol They are good friends.. Cheers Man Love Ya..Leon Russel Was One Of The Most Under Rated Musical genius's Of Our Time... Rock On Brother Peace and love From CANADA...
I love LEON!!!! He's comin to Illinois in August! I love his voice and even taught myself how to play tight rope, which took hours lol. But will someone please tell me what he says at 1:55?? i can't understand it
I don't know what he says at 1:55. Are you going to see him in August? Take something for him to sign. He usually signs autographs like up to 2 or 3 things at a time. If he stays in his tour bus to sign and sometimes he does, his manager takes the items to be signed in there and brings them back out
Ask him what he says at 1:55 and if he stays in his bus then send him a note asking him what he says He signed a pic for me that says happy birthday (my name) It was my birthday
You've seen ALL of them?! Louis, Ella, Irma Thomas, Evelyn Glennie, Marcia Griffiths, Sharon Isbin!!! Holy crap I am jealous and you must be old to have seen Louis Armstrong. And this means you have seen one of my favorite bands ever Kassav' the legends that created Zouk! Damn, I am so jealous right now. And yeah John Mayer is kinda flaming and I am miffed that he gets to play the Clapton Crossroads festival and not Wanda Jackson!
@JohnMayerGayFlamer I, personally, have never smoked so much as one pole, but I take your side in your argument with whatshisname. I'm not THAT fucking old, but I have seen "Pops"( Louis Armstrong), Jimi, Leon, Willie, the Kingston Trio (when there were still 2 original members), the Shirelles (with 3 original members), and the list goes on. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll, forever.
Leon still owns this song. He improved on several artists' songs (Beware of Darkness and Youngblood for starters), but this one is in a league of its own. His performance of this in Concert for Bangladesh is one for the ages.
Leon totally owns this song. No one does it better, not even the Stones. Been in love with his music and performing since about 1970. Saw him 3 or 4 times from '70 to '73.
for some reason we went to see the opening act and all of a sudden here is Leon, Joe Cocker and Mary Russell and we just sat there blown away. I went out the next day and bought everything I could find by him.
Strange how the old veterans, Leon and Willie, still have the long hair, yet the backup players, from another era, essentially, look like young Chamber types.
I saw the Concert for Bangladesh at MSG in 1971 and if you want to see a timeless carved in stone rock and roll gemstone, then see Leon do JJF on the DVD of the concert....its flat out chilling how good it is.....
Rock and Roll hall of fame is flawed , Leon should be in there and so should Roky Erickson.
There ya go one from Oklahoma and One from Texas both Changed and added to music more so then many already in there .
Leon I thought was in there , how rude !
Used to see him on what was it Hullabaloo , Shindig or Where the Action is , still going strong and that was like 1965 ! Sure he was on all . How can he not be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or Shame if he ain't in it!
amazing! LEON is truly amazing no matter what age he is! he will always be the MAN! he is a legend and should be in the rock and roll hall of fame! thanks for sharing! love it! a leon-LIFER!
@stellasdaddyful I think you're doing drugs, because they are not lipsyncing it's just they way Leon looks when he sings. He's always barely moved his mouth when he sings. Also, I saw him about a year ago. I was about 2 feet from him and it would have been easy to see if he was faking it...Not even close....
@stellasdaddyful His eyesight, balance and memory have all been affected by his condition and the surgeries he's had to endure. He was also ripped off by one of his accountants. However, through the years, he always insisted on doing business his way and pissed off a lot of people in the music industry for refusing to play "the game" their way. But now, he's finally got a huge, Grammy nominated CD with Elton John and is finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
@judecreek2 Okay: I'll eat my words - but only because you've done more research than me. Sorry about the drug inflection. It was more directed at a previous comment that suggested so - I should have made that clearer. I really have little idea about Leon Russell, except that he is one awesome dancer on the keys. Apologies, and nice to see you standing up for what you believe in.
@stellasdaddyful Thanks for the compliment, but there's no need for apologies. Everyone has an opinion and the right to express it. Happy New Year to you and yours.
@mkeane8 No, the crack or fissure in his brain cavity developed on its own. Who knows how weird shit like that happens? I'd never even heard of it until I read an interview with Leon years ago. It's more common than I thought, but still a pretty rare occurance. I hope this last surgery did the trick and cured it for good.
@da324 another person getting mixed up about drugs. These guys succeeded in spite of drugs. Talk to their families and see how great the drugs were for them.
@DAVWAVE I'm well versed on the topic of drugs. And a lot of musicians succeeded because of drugs initially. Of course long term abuse will screw anyone up, even great musicians.
oh my, i wouldn't have recoginzed him if i bumped into him on the street ... but, he's still got that distintive voice and piano playin' going strong for him! wild man!

Duh. It was a joke. I saw The Grateful Dead play in Birmingham Alabama a short time before he died. I know he's dead. I heard it on the news.
The joke was that Leon sort of looks like old Jerry in this vid. Get it?
I also saw Lean play at a club outside of Birmingham on a New Year's show and got him to autograph a poster, a photo and an album.
I've seen all the great musicians and some several times. Have you?
