Mr. Shatner, I know how to get you into the next Star Trek movie. J.J. Abrams could have the movie begin with the clone of Kirk from your novel series "The Return", and have the clone Kirk, in command of the USS Belle Reve, go back in time to rescue the old Spock and bring him back to his native time period. At some point they could give a brief synopsis of your novel series to explain how the old Kirk has come back to life, so to speak. Kirk WOULD do this. It is not far fetched. Whaddia think?
I personally don't understand why it's so hard for these people to #bringbackkirk...It's Star Trek..there's always possibilities. For example; Whoopi Goldberg's character was in the nexus and on the Enterprise (as far as I can tell she never traveled there with Picard so she must be in both). So, why couldn't the new Kirk and company stumble upon the nexus and bring Original Kirk out? Then he could go on living in the new future as Spock does.
Actually his idea of bringing Kirk back makes perfect sense, I've been wondering why they didn't use transporter technology to keep people young since I was a kid, bringing a person back to life isn't much harder. Still killing Kirk off the way they did didn't make much sense either.
I don't think he should've been in the movie. He shouldn't overshadow the new cast, he wouldn't fit in the plot without it being a cameo. Having one old character play an important role was good enough
@WeEatBrainz are you kidding, given that the plot heavily revolves around time travel is an easy write in add. they brought sigourney weaver back in alien 4 lol.
Im confused, after watching this clip I kept watching other related videos and I found this:
"William Shatner Talks Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek XI"
There in 2006 he says "I met with him and he wanted me to be in the movie but ..." and goes on to say the same things JJ says in this clip about the problem of bringing back dead-Kirk and new-young-Kirk together...
Im not trying to be a troll or anything, I just found both clips almost at the same time, and it was weird, I admire the old guy
They messed around with time travel in the film anyway, they also tried to eradicate young Kirk on several occasions. Many a paradox in time travel and who knows, perhaps older Kirk is somehow also still in the Nexus. Infinite ways Shatner could be brought back, I think it would relaunch the franchise to new heights. I'd also like to see a new season of Star Trek with Admiral Kirk at the helm, kind of like old duffers in space kicking ass the old way politically incorrect anarchy. Golden ideas.
I not understand why it is so hard to bring him back life! The film take place before he enter the adamic anyway. He could have play kirt father in the battle that lasted 10 minutes.
@webjeff2002 HAHA nice idea but what your saying is that a man who is old enough to be his great, great grandfather is actually his dad. Plus Shatner really is to big an icon to play anyone other than the captain, a cameo as another charachter would have completely turn the tone of the film and focus completely on him. There are ways but I don't think this would would work. Nice idea though if the age gap wasn't so monumetal, kind of creepy in most cultures and would probably offend.
@frostyuk2007 A good way to have handled it would have been to simply ignore the ending of Generations. Star Trek is not known for story, or even character, consistency at all. Everybody wanted to see Shatner, in some form, in this movie. The ending of Generations was poorly received and it wasn't simply because Kirk died.
@webjeff2002 "not understand why it is so hard to bring him back life! "
Because they are unable to actually conceive of a new Star Trek series that stands on its own, so that is where the remake comes in. They are relying heavily on you imagining there is more than there is, or looking for those throwback references and getting excited.
SciFi has moved towards Space Operas, 100% of which steals from Babylon 5. They can always make a Deep Space 9 movie... but they're slow.
@Starry2000 lol @babylon 5. everyone ripping of nolan and batman begins with weak mediocre reboots and nolan is copying micheal bay with transformers. i personaly thought star trek has been kind of dumbed down to star trek for dumb jocks rather than roddenberrys humanistic vision. id give the reboot a c-. hated the score, star trek II-4 rules (and first contact). they need to badly return to the goldsmith/horner score that made the first 4 movies terrific. or the old classic tv score.
As far as I'm concerned, none of that Nexus crap ever happened. What a terrible movie that was. In my mind, Kirk lived to a ripe old age and died peacefully with Spock and McCoy at his side.
@McflyMcMurderface They couldn't have been at his side...though I agree that generations was crap. Kirk said it to them in Star Trek V "I've always known I'll die alone." Just another fact against Generations cuz he wasn't alone...
Actually, I quite liked the new Star Trek movie. Was it classic Trek? Nope. It was a new take on an old idea, and I'm okay with that. I'm just glad it wasn't another Next Gen movie. Good god those sucked.
Don't worry Bill. I didn't go see the flick, and no one else did either, obviously. After seeing how Hollywood ruined Planet of the Apes, I didn't want to have these morons leave a bad taste in my mouth for Star Trek. Star Trek, the original, is one of the most innovative shows to ever be produced. Anything today's Hollywood idiots attempt is just second rate crap.
Shatner has always been an egotistical man so it wouldn't surprise me that he would want a bigger part than a cameo which I think he deserves. Seeing has the new Star Trek opened up an alternate timeline, it is possible to bring him back somehow. I really hope he and Nimoy are in the sequel.
b) Theoretically you could use a sample of Kirks dna to ressurect him in the transporter
c) You could also go into the Nexus (Theoretically he is also still inside the nexus since Guinan was even though we KNEW she was on the Enterprise at the time.)

@babylon218 shatner is too obnoxious, sulu is too gay, uhura is too much of an aged whore now, chekov wasnt a major enough character, and neither was scotty, and bones is dead...
@MaxamillionGat I find it hilarious that you have resorted to verbally assaulting my person other than constructing a rational argument. All I said is that Shatner is a great actor (probably shoulda put IMO but...) and stated the ways that Kirk could be bought back. Also, I could tell you this from watching ONE trek film and ONE TNG episode. And finally, YOU, sir, remind me of many idiots on youtube who prefer insulting those who disagree with them other than constructing a proper argument.
HAVE SPOCK REBUILD GUENISSES MACHINE AND CREATE A PLANET THE SAME AS WHEN HE WAS REINCARNATED DIG UP KIRKS REMAINS STICK EM IN PROTON TORPEDO OF TRUTH AND FIRE THAT MOTHER TREKER AT IT AND WALA HE IS REBORN AND THEN THE BORG GET HIM AND ASSIMILATE HIM AND HE CAN PLAY TNE BAD GUY IN NEXT FILM
Bill, JJ, it's easy - you would be Captain Kirk, just of one of the earlier space missions - perhaps when the federation was in trouble... you also happen to be estranged grandfather of current Chris Pine Kirk. You become a mentor... anyway, imagination can take over from here :) I can see you with a classic sea-captain-war-dog trimmed beard or some other distinction to obscure the obvious BillS. persona.
bring back kirk even if it just to kill him a big battle in the film got to be better than killing him on a cliff. spock is already in the past so he could very easily change history and save kirk as he fall to his death. i can see it now Spock in his jetboots and saves him . theres lots of ways
JJ Abrams Star Trek is the best Star Trek movie since Wrath of Khan. I can't believe the comments calling the movie a piece of crap and garbage. And time travel is a very Roddenberry twist to add to the movie. Leonard Nimoy even said so himself on the interviews he did for the Star Trek DVD. This was a very successful reboot and I hope this next movie, slotted for 2012 is going to be just as awesome.
@heavyf24 I actually think JJ Abrams Star Trek was the best Trek movie period. And I only liked the original series I never watched any of the other ones.
They didn't just kill him in Generations, they killed him TWICE! Double the sucker punch.
In the new movie I thought he was supposed to be in recorded message Spock carried on him, like a time he wished Spock a happy birthday. Then it got cut out before filming.
@RicosDomeTown Dawwww but that would have been so cute dang it all!!! Might have made that stupid movie worth the time and money I wasted on it!!! Is the clip anywhere? I would LOVE to see it!!!
Bill!!!!!!!!!!! he's making a new one! You HAVE 2 be in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it made me cry seeing you die in the generations movie, i can't even watch it anymore because if it... reviving captain kirk will make me and thousands of more fans so very happy! you're not dead jim, you just took extended shore leave XD
That was a very entertaining response. Perhaps JJ's agent told him it was presented to your agent and it was not It is Hollywood after all.. Maybe he could work in S*&^ my dad says on Star Trek. LOL
I thought Star Trek Generations was a good movie but I agree that killing your character off at the end was a mistake. Oh I know what they could have done, if you, Picard, and Soran had the final duel in the dreamworld instead, you could have just went back to the time when you went into the rift and then maybe Picard could help you on the Enterprise-B,,, yup, I'm definitely sending this idea to 20 years ago when it might have mattered!
somehow get someone to enter the nexus and bring back kirk via the nexus. guinan appeared to picard and picard went back in time(both in the nexus) so maybe use some reasoning along those lines to make it happen and make sense.
I've heard it said that the way kirk died in Generations was wrong, Kirk was adamant that he would always die alone! And from the perspective of the other classic crew members it came to be true as he appeared to die on the Enterprise B, however i still felt that Kirk deserved a better end!
The new movie focused on Spock past and future so... whatever, however the next movie is rumored to be about Khan, and where theres Khan theres Kirk! I can easily see you coming back Bill!!
@Starfall1979 What is really going on, and you can take this message to your friends, is that the Star Trek franchise is simply being used at this point. They didn't make a totally new Star Trek series because they are counting on you, the audience, to fill out the movie on your side by subliminally referring to better written series and movies.
The only decent sci-fi series or movies are going to be pulled from games now: Mass Effect (Babylon 5 under a new name), Warhammer 40k, and Starcraft.
I love Captain Kirk and I love Bill Shatner as Captain Kirk. I love Bill Shatner as a talk show guest and although I don't think he's a great interviewer I watch his Raw Nerve talk show. But the fact is that Bill Shatner is a very unpopular person with the vast majority of people that worked with him. Except for Leonard Nimoy the entire cast of Start Trek hated him and I wouldn't be surprised if his denial of ever receiving an offer here is more of Shatner's selective memory.
I was thinking the same thing about the transporter and the potential immortality of everyone. The transporter is in one interpretation making a copy of the user so a copy is saved and if the need arises due to some accident or whatever they can simply generate another version of the person. So Kirk and the rest could be immortal.
Very simple....if the Romulans could clone Capt. Picard (as they did in *ST: N*) it would be a simple thing for them to clone Capt. Kirk....the details of the plot could proceed from "How," "Why," and "Who." *ST: The Return* by Bill was a pretty good book (at least I thought so) and I'm sure Bill would allow Abrams to use a similar premise for a movie -- JJA would give Bill an acknowledgement, I'm sure.
I read The Ashes of Eden (and all the Tek books for that matter), and Kirk was brought back very convincingly. It was definitely oversimplified in this clip, but that was one of the best Star Trek books ever! Long Live the Shat! :)
Bill, you will always be in every Star Trek movie every made. Your character is one of the cannons, like Leonard Nimoy! Any your fans will always enjoy seeing you no mater how your introduced into the plot.
Willima, you will have to get your plastic surgeon to suck out a whole lotta fat outta yer head before you are fit to stand in front of a camera for another Star Trek movie. I enjoy the pastrami sammiches from The Hat too, but ... come on, really...
Star Trek Generations is a paradox. The nexus is a trans-dimensional environment "where past and future collide." When Picard entered the nexus he encountered Guinan who mysteriously exists both in the nexus and outside the nexus. Yet she tells Picard that he can leave the nexus. Then Picard meets Kirk in the nexus and then they both leave the nexus. The point is Kirk's death outside the nexus is irrelevant; Kirk is still in the nexus! This plot element is capable of regenerating James Kirk.
Shatner would make a great cameo. He's right about both. Time travel or interdimensional is hypothetically possible and also, there's science books that talk of reassembling Dino DNA and not just from amber. An adorably clutsy paleontology team, ok it was a huge bone too big to transport, broke open a fossilized bone and there was sift tissue inside.
I would LOVE to see Shater and Nimoy on screen together again in the new Star Trek. It could be a great tearjerker moment when Spock sees his friend again.
Unfortunately with Mr. Nimoys retirement from acting my dream of a Kirk/Spock reunion shall remain just that, a dream. ;____;
captain kirk is my favourite hero, i have watched star trek for thousands of times. the original series is the best and the only series that has become a cult now.
i would have rather seen an all cgi star trek like the clone wars is doing than the reboot with original actors voices from all the series, perhaps incorporating the temporal wars element of the show enterprise.another franchise of my youth turned to shit.
i miss star trek being socialy relevant, now its downgraded into action scifi fodder. the should have called this film to boldy go where no one over 25 wants to watch star trek anymore lol.
run from j.j. mr. shatner, 2009 was god awfull in my opinion, the micheal baying of star trek has begun and had about as much relevancy as transformers 2, nothing but a cheap attempt to make money by non star trek fans (j.j. is a star wars fan, not star trek he admits). lost is the only thing j.j. has done and he screwed up the series ending for lol.abrams a worse director than m.night shamaylan, at least sham has one good movie.
I haven't seen any of the nu!series (I have little to no desire to do so at this point, given what I know of the movie so far) but I will definitely, definitely watch the presumed sequel if ShatnerKirk and NimoySpock are reunited (bonus if they have a substantial part). I really hope the next director makes this happen. As far as I'm concerned, it will be the only redeeming factor of this Star Trek resurrection.
@charlesvan13 that wasnt his fault it was the producers for still stupiditly dropping the star trek 2 music. the goldsmith/horner music should ahve been left alone, generations music sucked. star trek hasnt been right since five, prefering 1-4 and first contact (the only alternatively scored star trek ive liked). bring back shatner and most importantly the original music :).2009s score was god awfull.
@alanfunkle you can't say that the music in ST6 sucked? It was created by Goldsmith himself. A ST2 soundtrack wouldn't mesh well with a politically themed movie.
Of course they couldn't put kirk in the movie, girdle technology hasn't progressed far enough to make it possible, they were pushing technology to the limits in Generations.
@heatflash888 Um why not? JJ's stupid Star Trek fail is set in a different time. Hence why Fake Kirk's dad died. Um excuse me, that never happened in the first one. So if fake kirk's dad can die, real Kirk can be brought back to life I'm sure.
According to JJ Abrams; *his* 'Star Trek' is not your father's Star Trek. Yes I agree with him; Gene Roddenberry's aka *my father's* Star Trek was far more intelligent than his will ever be. IMHO.
Personally, I didn't care for the new movie. The soul of star trek was missing, it was too much like a cheesy 1950's science fiction movie made to draw in crowds that wanted a quick fix of gagetry and violence. Hopefully someone will come along and resurrect star trek, return it to what it once was, and make it the human experience again.
TOS and its 6 films are the best. even the final frontier and the motion picture (the weakest) has soul to them and good characters. the other series, and the new ones, do not. KIRK is awesome, and will always be my favourite captain.
@Robotdrummerzzk Thanks, I was there in the begining when star trek first came on the air, it pre-empted wagon train and I thought my dad was going to shoot the tv, but I managed to convice him to watch it, and he actually enjoyed it. I wonder if there is some place we could write to and comment about our feelings on this subject, some organization that has some clout to it that would help bring back the soul of star trek. Live long and prosper my friend.
This is old news and all, but if Kirk were to come back (you know, if) I think it all lies in the events of the Generations movie.
I'm of the opinion that when someone enters The Nexus, a place of timelessness or a sympathetic time flow, that a person pretty much "always" exists then as a byproduct of contact with a nonlinear temporal universe.
So, were one to accept this scenario as I present it, Kirk "now" "always" exists. The Nexus could even drop him into a new film, or Soviet Russia.
Last night my 12 year-old brother asked me to show him an episode of the Original Series for his first time. At the end I asked him who was his favorite character. He said Captain Kirk. My brother has good taste.
Didn't finish. I don't think the intensity of Capt. Kirk has ever been recaptured except in the 2nd movie when you yelled "Kahn". You are my favourite Canadin and in fact I think you should have been the next Governor General. Back to ST, in the TNG Generations film Pickard's Character never changed from the series to the big screen. In your next roll as Kirk (you have to do another Trek film
Mr. Shatner, I doubt you will ever read this but nobody can change the face of Captain James T Kirk! My personal sci-fi hero. I am not the trekker that would dress up or go to conventions. I own every original episode of the original though. I just watched a few and I don't think you have ever recaptured the same intensity in any of t
I can't link the video but Shatner was on Craig Ferguson that Abrams said he was going to put him in the movie. And that he didn't see how having old Kirk in the movie would work. Get your sorry straight, BIll.
@CaptainRon0001 honestly, I wouldn't mind never seeing Shatner on screen again. I've always found his acting a bit over the top. to say the least.
Having Nimoy in there to pass the torch was a nice touch but now I think it's time to move on. All nthe old stuff with the old casts is still out there on DVD for anyone who still wants to see it.
Killing Kirk in Generations made it the worst Star Trek Movie ever. I personally wish Shatner will be in the next Star Trek movie. He is where it all started. JJ, thou shalt respect thy Shatner.
I wish Shatner could be more graceful about this. He was in Generations without Nimoy. That one was about Kirk. This one is about Spock. Shatner is a Star Trek hero. I just wish he could be more graceful in public.
IMO it's better that Bill wasn't in the film, as much as I love him. It would have seemed corny to have both him & Spock come back through time travel... like it was forced just to get him in there. It was right to only have one of them, and Spock was a better fit IMO.
@iLuvAkeys4ever I haven't looked at this post in months, but had to reply: I've been a Trek fan since the 60s, and Spock never had a TV "love interest". (Nurse Chapel had unrequited love for him, & there was a Vulcan fiancee from episode "Amok Time" -- but it was never Uhura. Kirk kissed Uhura once, when forced to by telekinetic aliens as entertainment. (Maybe you read this in a novel, but it seems that you may be confusing them with "Worf and Deanna Troi" from TNG.)
If someone wanted to bring Shatner back as Kirk, it would be very easy. He still exists in the Nexus (just as Guynann left the Nexus just prior to Kirk's disapearance, but still existed in it) one would just have to figure out how to bring him out again. I don't believe that Shatner would have fit in the new movie at all, nor would I put Shatner in another Star Trek movie, but that is just me.
Just pointing out that it would be very easy to do so. LL&P . . . . . . doc
Mr Shatner, when are you going to Direct a Star Trek series of your own. The original Star Trek is still my favorite. I sure would love to see you in a Star Trek series again. You will always be my favorite captain.
@mindthoughts1974 He cannot he doesn't own it he is and actor only the big boy's make the desicions.. sad but true.. It's the investors directors and effects people hired then actors to do the parts.. I learned that how it works.
I notice spock was used alot in future projects ..
Williams had his moments.
I wrote a movie making william shatner and Leanard nemoy and whom is left from the crew a great part in my movie but getting it made is another story.
Mr. Shatner, I know how to get you into the next Star Trek movie. J.J. Also, I could tell you this from watching ONE trek film and ONE TNG episode. And finally, YOU, sir, remind me of many idiots on youtube who prefer insulting those who disagree with them other than constructing a proper argument.

I thought Star Trek Generations was a good movie but I agree that killing your character off at the end was a mistake. Oh I know what they could have done, if you, Picard, and Soran had the final duel in the dreamworld instead, you could have just went back to the time when you went into the rift and then maybe Picard could help you on the Enterprise-B,,, yup, I'm definitely sending this idea to 20 years ago when it might have mattered!
illustriouschin 10 months ago
somehow get someone to enter the nexus and bring back kirk via the nexus. guinan appeared to picard and picard went back in time(both in the nexus) so maybe use some reasoning along those lines to make it happen and make sense.
shiznak55 11 months ago
I've heard it said that the way kirk died in Generations was wrong, Kirk was adamant that he would always die alone! And from the perspective of the other classic crew members it came to be true as he appeared to die on the Enterprise B, however i still felt that Kirk deserved a better end!
The new movie focused on Spock past and future so... whatever, however the next movie is rumored to be about Khan, and where theres Khan theres Kirk! I can easily see you coming back Bill!!
Starfall1979 11 months ago 2

An adorably clutsy paleontology team, ok it was a huge bone too big to transport, broke open a fossilized bone and there was sift tissue inside.

run from j.j. mr. shatner, 2009 was god awfull in my opinion, the micheal baying of star trek has begun and had about as much relevancy as transformers 2, nothing but a cheap attempt to make money by non star trek fans (j.j. is a star wars fan, not star trek he admits). lost is the only thing j.j. has done and he screwed up the series ending for lol.abrams a worse director than m.night shamaylan, at least sham has one good movie.

@charlesvan13 that wasnt his fault it was the producers for still stupiditly dropping the star trek 2 music. the goldsmith/horner music should ahve been left alone, generations music sucked. star trek hasnt been right since five, prefering 1-4 and first contact (the only alternatively scored star trek ive liked). bring back shatner and most importantly the original music :).2009s score was god awfull.
alanfunkle 1 year ago
@alanfunkle you can't say that the music in ST6 sucked? It was created by Goldsmith himself. A ST2 soundtrack wouldn't mesh well with a politically themed movie.

Grey9man 1 year ago
@Grey9man here here.

Live long and prosper my friend.

jerrygreg2 1 year ago
This is old news and all, but if Kirk were to come back (you know, if) I think it all lies in the events of the Generations movie.
I'm of the opinion that when someone enters The Nexus, a place of timelessness or a sympathetic time flow, that a person pretty much "always" exists then as a byproduct of contact with a nonlinear temporal universe.
So, were one to accept this scenario as I present it, Kirk "now" "always" exists. The Nexus could even drop him into a new film, or Soviet Russia.

LL&P . . . . . . doc
