  • Super film??? O mannn this is the worg movie ever

  • And whats the name of the song?Is this originally from Lully?

  • louis sure was selfish and arrogant he only care about himself.

  • I practically cried. This movie was incredible.

  • Curious I visited Versailles maint times..feeling always the same grave sadness and absolut emptiness. What was about all its spoken glory ?

  • Thank you so much for sharing this great film, a completely different point of view of the Louis XIV reign!! Do keep posting such interesting vids!!

  • @zap22it I wouldn't say this view is new and different. It's a well known fact that while the absolute monarchy and pompous courtly life flourished during Louis' reign he wasn't exactly a benevolent king. In fact I thought this film portrayed him in a rather positive light. Usually only his selfish strive for glory is what they show, here they showed what man he was, and WHY he was that man.

It's common knowledge that his interest was fickle, he was selfish and impatient.

  • A beautiful film, thanks for sharing.

  • According to Wikipedia, Lully died a rich man, and he was bisexual

  • Baroque music has reached perfection, eveything before and after is only mediocrity.Great movie.

  • Thank you for sharing the movie @lareinecomtesse ! :D

  • just wonderful thank you so much!

  • :( Pauvre Lulli, il a tend souffert ..

  • @Japonmode Et Molière ... =(

  • Mais quelle vie de merde.

  • @Marievska j'avoue...

  • Thank you for sharing this wonderful film!!!!

  • This is a great film and Film- script.Fantastic Costumes and amazing actors. .Many many thanks that I can see it on youtube.

    Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Merci and many thanks for sharing this lovely work of art.

  • I must add my voice to those who have thanked you. It is very kind of you to have taken to time to make this fascinating film available.

  • Oh dear, I didn't know Lully was a hysterical drama queen who had a crush on Louis! Very bad acting! Music, Costumes and locations excellent though.

  • @ukargie Bad acting? He did a magnificent job of portraying a "drama queen."

  • A thousand thanks to you for enabling me to see this splendid historical drama as it is completely unavailable here in the UK at this time (2010) either to buy or to rent. Thank you too for posting an English-subtitled version.

  • histoire beaucoup fascinante entre les deux geantes

  • What a magnificent film! Thanks so much for posting it!

  • thank you so much for uploading. Le Roi danse and Formans Amadeus seem to be 2 sides of a coin. There true art is that of an outsider/fool and so is in opposition to Absolutism and any powers that dont understand but want to use it . Here true art is a nessesary part of Absolutismn because Lully/Moliere/Le Notre are the ones that let Louis become the Sun King,he is what he represents and without Louis none of them would have been the artist that they were.

  • SIMPLY A MASTERPIECES!

  • Bonjour,

    Robin

  • they could have taken Gino Vanelli as Lully....~

  • Thank you for uploading this magnificent movie!

  • Merci beaucoup por cet énorme plaisir! Un des plus beaux films!

  • Merci beaucoup!

  • Gérard Corbiau (born September 19, 1941) is a Belgian film director.

Corbiau was born in Brussels, Belgium. He is best known for his costume dramas about music, Le maître de musique (1987), Farinelli (1994) and Le roi danse (2000)

Thank you lareinecomtesse for the upload.

  • y Atys??????

  • I really enjoyed this movie! Thats messed up that the King didn't go see him before he died though.

  • xxxmercixxx

  • What a wonderful movie... And the music... Lord!

  • You make it sound as if Lully was more important than The Sun King!

Thanks for a really wonderful film - all 14 episodes. That period is irresistible.

  • Thank you for the uploads, they are great!!!

  • Merci beaucoup ce film était génial !!!

  • Love Lully's music. Thanks for putting this film up. It's one that ya can't see here in America.

  • louise, le roi soleil. before Napoleon was born in Bonaparte before the fall, he threatened Europe with his army. he became the obsession of William the third of england. he was narcissistic but greatness rose in that small man.

  • A magnificent film, which cleary displays the transitory, fleeting nature of the Human condition from the most glorious to the least remarkable One shall always inescapably fade away into the shadows of obscurity

  • @AugustusAurelianus couldn't have said it better!!!!

  • Facinating film! Thanks for posting!

  • It is the "Les Foiles D'Espagne" by Lully

  • Merci beaucoup!

  • What is this first piece called, as they roll the credits? I've been wanting to find out for so long!

  • Thelollypop09,

He's Louis XIV, not Louis XVI...

And he knows, of course. Don't you feel the sadness ? There is no more Lully... hence no more music.

  • thank you very much for sharing this superb film with us!!

  • I think personally my impression of the moral of the film is that love of any form is fleeting, stars rise and fall and no one is immortal

  • Not that Lully was an angel, he loved Louis but only because he would become King of France, and what he could profit from that. He abandonned his friend in the same callous way the king abandonned him ironic...

  • Molière would call it,

    Poetic Justice

Thank you for the upload watched entirely, great film.

  • I love the film but Louis XVI was self-obsessed and I think the last line of the film 'Is there no music tonight?' Ilustrates his apathy for Lully's condition if he even knew that he was dying

  • Thanks for the upload. Great movie.

  • It's just that exhilarating power that radiates all through this film. Belle Musique et Danse et la langue française, those were the days... Such a shame there's not a modernday equivalent.

  • Grandissimo!

  • stunning!!! thanks for this film!!! regards!

  • MAGNIFIQUE! Absolutely beautiful production!

    Huge Louis XIV fanatic...

    And Lully's music...Très magnifique!
