love these pics, love watching the concert videos of Gary movin all over the stage, singing w Mick..havin a blast...he looks so happy... love listenin for his sound...what a great talent...just the best rock bass player...
I was fortunate enough to see Heep live in Seattle in 1972 I believe it was. I was three rows back so it was up close and personal. Gary's stage presence was fantastic. Had a hard time watching the rest of the band. The concert was great, Gary was great. Looked like he was having a good time. He was all over the stage. Thank you Gary and Heep for one of my fondest memories.

for my money, the best rock bassist there ever was, possibly except for entwistle. whenever i listen to one of these old heep songs, it gary's bass that carries the thrill, IMHO.
His Bass playing I must say influenced me on my playing more then ANY other Bass player. Heep was never the same without him, I don't care who the tryed replaced him with. Very sad that some people thought money ( manager ) was more important then taking some time off and trying to help the man over come his demons.
I was living in a house near Scarborough North Yorkshire with Mick Hill guitarist and Ken Cook bassist. One day This cool Kiwi Knocked on the door With a Fender jazz on his back. "Heard you was musos" He grinned "Any chance I could crash?" He stuck around for the summer playin with the local bands. He went down to London and I saw him again at the "Speak easy" with "The New Nadir" a great three piece. Hendrix was there that night in the audience along with Kit Lambert. Was gutted when he died.
@dt1708 Pleased to meet you.Gary was a great bloke.Sorry I dont have any photos or anything. I will ask around Scarborough. He tought me how to play " walk right in" and gave me a fantastic pair of sun bleached Wranglers all the way from Christchurch New Zealand. I wrote a song when I heard the news. but never recorded or performed it. Didn't think it was good enough for him. A sad loss

@1danrobbins His name is David Byron. IMO, all his vocals performances are the best, not just this one. :-D But one of the things I like the most (among Hensley's songwriting and the heavy Hammond organ, the vocal harmonies, etc) is the bass playing from Gary Thain. So unique! I've never heard anyone playing like that. (John Paul Jones comes close on some Led Zeppelin songs, e.g. the lemon song).
Gary''s playing and sound was a huge influence on me back in the late 70's when I first picked up a bass. I woke up this morning with Circle of hands in my head and wound up here. Lately I've been in a sort of musical 'funk' but listening to his playing is inspiring me again to jump back into it. He will always be one of the best in my book!!!
It's funny seeing this today as I just picked up the double live Uriah Heep lp today at Goodwill for $1. I met Gary in London back in 1973. Very friendly guy without any rock star pretensions. He brought the double live lp over to where i was staying as it had just come out. Saw him once a year or so later in NYC. The next time I heard about him was when he died. Glad to see that he is so fondly remembered. Good guy!
He was probably the most appreciated Heep member.

Great song. Undoubtedly, the lead singer's (sorry his name escapes me at the moment, Byron or something) best performance.

He was a very humble guy as you say. His daughter is going to see Uriah Heep in New York in a few weeks I believe for the first time.
