We could of used another shooter on this team like Ray Allen. Ray Allen was terrible in the first two and a half series and in the NBA playoffs. About halfway through the Celtics vs. Pistons series Ray Allen just started torching people. He played great in the finals too. Anyways Ray is probably one of the best pure 3 point shooters in the game and the only pure 3 point shooter on this Olympic team is Michael Redd.
Hopefully the U.S team will win the gold. But up until now they haven't solved their problem in long range shooting. It's been their problem in international competition. They will need it most when they meet the high caliber teams.

He's done enough for the U.S., fresh legs like Bosh and CP3 are more suitable now. And T-Mac's never been on an Olympic squad since he's pretty injury prone (at age 29 sadly), not knocking the fact he's a good player though, but he wouldn't make the commitment. The team we have selected is solid on everything for the most part.

Once again, the U.S. made up of the best NBA players lost in 2002, 2004, 2006. Euro teams beat them with their outside shooting, team defense, and team offense. Kimskis is making points that the U.S. coach has to deal with. Foreign teams new how to handle U.S. teams with their zone-defense and great outside shooting. Team play wins in the Olympics and World Championships.

International rules allow zone defense. This was a problem for the U.S. team in the past as their opponants stocked up on outside shooters that hit their shots. They also played a good zone defense. If the U.S. doesn't hit their outside shots consistantly, they will still probably win most of their games, but there will be that one game that they'll need outside shooting to win. I wouldn't bet my house on them winning gold. But they aree obviously the favorites. Rightly so.
narco its not about scoring he can score 40 or 50, if its only scoring then Allen Iverson should be there but its about balanced scoring of all team members thats what you called team work.
I feel that the strategy of loading the team with slashers is suprising and unusual considering the way the international game is played. No defensive 3 seconds here. just bog down the lane (It isn't sexy which is why the NBA is the worlds premier basketball product and being an attractive product is a good thing and love the fact that players can become so wealthy - most of my socialist international friends loath business and people coming out of poverty).
paul will be great in the open court and will lead the tournament in assists. deron will be good too. these guards are world class. But how does that save you against zone? Most International teams will shoot from the perimeter and will have two players over the centerline playing safety before the ball hits the ring. they wont try to rebound offensively, they will fight the battles that they can win. the problem is that international teams like greece will make lots of 3's if they get on a roll
The rest of the world is gonna slap a zone on this puppy the second they arrive at customs. they have so-so man to man perimeter defense, so so shooting. you cant just drive in the international game. Kobes middle distance jumper will translate nicely but in my opinion unless they make shots, Wade, Kidd, James and Howard(poor guy is gonna be surrounded by 3 players in a match-up zone or a conventional 2-1-2) are all going to find it tough.
i agree with you aussie international players are very good in outside shooting they can shoot everywhere coz they know its hard to penetrate the inside so we needed jason kidd outside shooting and not only passing the ball.

in basketball, not everyone can play equal minutes. that's why don't wonder how come redd, prince and boozer are there while there are better players not included. you can't have an all-star nba team w/ other "all-star level" players being benched most of the time. Guys like redd, etc..are called role players.

the world has stepped their game up recently, but the current US team is different than the previous ones. the same guys have been playing together for 3 years now. previously, the US would just throw a team of all starts together a few weeks beforehand. these guys know how to play together. of the 4 best point guards in the nba, three of them are playing for the USA (nash being the exception). jason kidd is the piece that was missing in 2004 and 2006. he will be spreading the ball around.

Once again, looks like americans don't learn from their mistakes...they fill the team with slashers and fastbreakers amd just one pure shooter - Michael Redd...I can tell honestly - this is not gonna work against smart international teams, they use a lot of different zone variations, which are not allowed in NBA, I bet all these stars will be surprised by the defensive level of euros...another mistake is not enough frontcourt players, you will get killed inside by Lithuania, Spain or Greece

USA lost in 2002, 2004 and 2006. They had NBA players that ran faster, jumped higher, and played dumber than the less athletic European teams. Euro teams shoot the ball well from the outside and play team ball. If the U.S. doesn't play smart, they will lose again.

International rules allow zone defense. This was a problem for the U.S. team in the past as their opponants stocked up on outside shooters that hit their shots. They also played a good zone defense. If the U.S. doesn't hit their outside shots consistantly, they will still probably win most of their games, but there will be that one game that they'll need outside shooting to win. I wouldn't bet my house on them winning gold. But they aree obviously the favorites. Rightly so.

I feel that the strategy of loading the team with slashers is suprising and unusual considering the way the international game is played. No defensive 3 seconds here. just bog down the lane (It isn't sexy which is why the NBA is the worlds premier basketball product and being an attractive product is a good thing and love the fact that players can become so wealthy - most of my socialist international friends loath business and people coming out of poverty).

paul will be great in the open court and will lead the tournament in assists. deron will be good too. these guards are world class. But how does that save you against zone? Most International teams will shoot from the perimeter and will have two players over the centerline playing safety before the ball hits the ring. they wont try to rebound offensively, they will fight the battles that they can win. the problem is that international teams like greece will make lots of 3's if they get on a roll

The rest of the world is gonna slap a zone on this puppy the second they arrive at customs. they have so-so man to man perimeter defense, so so shooting. you cant just drive in the international game. Kobes middle distance jumper will translate nicely but in my opinion unless they make shots, Wade, Kidd, James and Howard(poor guy is gonna be surrounded by 3 players in a match-up zone or a conventional 2-1-2) are all going to find it tough.

I like how blind everyone is... the international teams are not like they were in when USA lost 2004, they are even better then they were in 2004. There are way too many greedy stars on this team to make it cohesive. It is a team that has set sail on a irreversible path to failure.

I disagree. For perhaps the first time ever it seems like the players are more concerned about winning gold and playing as a team than showboating. There's no question that our talent level is light years ahead of the next team and I feel pretty good about our chances.
