Churches aren't competing with each other, there are just different branches of Christianity. Think about it: what do they have to compete for? Donations? And what do donations do for themselves? It all goes into the church.

Quite a bit of an oversimplification of peoples' motives for attending church services, really. I don't attend them (despite being Christian) because I feel awkward at them, I've never been in synch with any of the congregations. But still, a lot of people go because it's what is socially expected of them, while others go because they agree with their pastor's point of view and generally feel synchronized with the congregation. Others still go to use the church as a community organizing hub.
On a recent trip to Florida I was blown away by the number of roadside advertisements for various churches and Christianity in general. Many of them played upon people's fears and frustrations amidst the current economic hard times. I could only wonder about the small minded fools who would be drawn in and how many more lives would be wasted in servitude... advertising religion on the side of the road, very tacky and goes to show that religion is just another business!

Quite a bit of an oversimplification of peoples' motives for attending church services, really. I don't attend them (despite being Christian) because I feel awkward at them, I've never been in synch with any of the congregations. But still, a lot of people go because it's what is socially expected of them, while others go because they agree with their pastor's point of view and generally feel synchronized with the congregation. Others still go to use the church as a community organizing hub.

On a recent trip to Florida I was blown away by the number of roadside advertisements for various churches and Christianity in general. Many of them played upon people's fears and frustrations amidst the current economic hard times. I could only wonder about the small minded fools who would be drawn in and how many more lives would be wasted in servitude... advertising religion on the side of the road, very tacky and goes to show that religion is just another business!

There is a slight difference: at least I get some form of sustenance from a fast food restaurant, whereas when entering a church/mosque/whichever you prefer I get nothing but an overwhelming sense of B.S and a sad feeling that millions of people got sucked into that flawed system of belief. It really is a shame that a grand majority of them are brainwashed into the belief system rather than getting a chance to choose it when they are capable of higher thinking.

Even with being christian, He makes good points and he is in general a impressive theologian/atheist. Whatever you want to call it. Many people treat religion as a go to option, when its easy or when their struggling and their are few and I make it clear, few people who really seem to get what dedication is or what their really believing. Its easy to believe in a god. have eternal life then think your set. I personally think more people should be making a change in the world. Oh well.
