When i watched this fight live I was so caught up in the Tyson mystique that I couldn't see what was really happening in the fight..that being the terrible beating that Mike was taking..I just kept thinkikng that Mike is gonna land that hail mary shot at any moment and put Bustars lights out.He nearly did in the 8th rd but Buster got up and put it to Mike like we'd never seen before.

Buster was a wasted talent ,but he's earnt his place in boxing history with this win.

When that fight took place (I was there) the ref gave Buster like 13 seconds. (it's slowed down in this video)

He only gave Tyson like 9 seconds. Plus, Tyson was looking for his mouth piece. he could've gotten up earlier had he not done that. Also... as soon as he got up, the ref put his arms around him (as if to protect him) and stopped the fight.

Physically, Douglas could have been the greatest ever. The one time he didn't quit after getting nailed was the one night Tyson wasn't prepared mentally or physically. When Buster went down in the Tyson fight, people say "He was down for 13 seconds!!" Come on.... He wasn't knocked out. Not even CLOSE. He propped himself up on his elbow, and was listening to the count. He was coherent, without a doubt. He waited until the refs count was almost up, then got up. He took as much time as he could. Whether the ref counted slow or not, is irrelevant. I mean, all he knew in getting up was the count he was hearing, and he beat it. He beat Tyson badly in that fight.

Just because Tyson can summon a knockout punch doesn't mean he can finish an opponent whenever. He had taken a LOT of punishment during this fight so when he needed to summon it he couldn't yet he still caught Douglas with a shot that would have ended the thing if Douglas hadn't showed the courage. I give Douglas credit for preparing and being ready to fight. But as we have seen with a person such as Lennox Lewis that fight was not necessarily indicative as a true measure of Tyson's weakness.

What a lovely man. Nicely spoken regular kind of guy whose priorities are very simple. His family. I have read the book 'The Last Great Fight' by Joe Laylan who writes about the Douglas/Tyson clash. Laylan comes at it from a very broad angle. You get a sense of who Douglas and Tyson are, the people and influences in their lives before they clashed. Before you judge D's worthiness cf to Ali etc, read about him. He stands head and shoulders above most of us and has a balanced view of boxing.
