  • Thanks for this Christianne

  • can you upload the whole movie?

  • @micmoable shut up!!!! Some people are born that way it's not there fault. They didn't wake up and say o I think I want a penis and a vagina.

  • About positive transsexuals what about Bernadette played by Terence Stamp

in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

A wonderfull character with dignity and a great sense of humor.

  • I absolutely love Roberta Muldoon and I think Lithgow's portrayal is wonderful. But I don't think you can compare it through the lens of gender politics with Dustin Hoffman in TOOTSIE. Roberta Muldoon is transgendered - Dorothy Michaels is a persona created by an actor (not even a drag performer) in order to get work.

  • I find Pooh's character more twisted than a transexual or even worse the more rampant character of the boyfriend mook forcing the capture of his 'woman' at the big femeinst house.

  • so much to address but you are right on with "Roberta" What a halmark! A character who deals with the adveraries of life and is the most adaptive. and that is what the movie/book is about. I like to think of this movie as the "Godfather" of liberal issues. Subject based within a genre where the aims are human rights instead of money. Your criticism is nailed but I still find the the movie beautiful in a way that films won't be made again in this way. Disturbing but alright, that's life.

  • Enjoyed your critique. Love the Book. Namaste

  • TRANSGENDERISM IS A SIN ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD---SAME AS BEING GAY/ LESBIAN--READ THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS IN THE BIBLE AND YOU WILL SEE...

  • @micmoable It wasn't that long ago that religist bigots like you were waving your Bibles and proclaiming that colored people were not the equal of whites and shouldn't integrate with them. Now that that battle is lost, some of you have just moved on to another target. Your pathetic need for a feeling of superiority is still there.

  • @micmoable I always find it so amusing that folks like you still believe in God. God, simply put is Santa Claus for grown-ups.

  • Why are you sending me this email.

  • in the book garp hates football, or all sports with a ball for that matter, which i find it interesting that he said he recognized alberta because he used to watch a lot of football.

  • do you know any link through I can download the movie. tq

  • John Lithgow(Roberta) plays the Trinity Killer in the new season of Dexter! He's awesome!

  • i concur!

  • Nice thoughtful (and interesting) commentary. Thank you for posting.

  • I agree with you on many points about the character of Roberta. I feel like she was the only voice of reason in this film (please note I have not seen this film for some time). I think that made her so powerful was the way she was played by John. She accepted the was she was and did not try to "doll" herself up. The way that John played her "mentally" (also written in the script) although she did think and act "womanish" there was still some "male" in her thinking that cannot be removed.

  • OMG the dorms are like totally crazy, in a naughty way of course!

  • is this Robin Williams playing the lead?

  • best movie ever

  • I was only about 9 or 10 when I first saw Garp, which is an all-time fave of mine. This was also my first exposure to a transgendered character. I came away thinking they were all just as well-adjusted as Roberta. I was wrong. 01:02-01:08 pretty much cover my own personal encounters; all very negative. I can only conclude the majority of Ts are fighting genetics and compensating with a flesh-suit. Roberta is a fairy-tale, IMO.

  • well someone's a little bit prejudiced and obnoxious today aren't they?

  • @BroadwayChick94 You're simply reacting instead of addressing the statements made. For example, I'm Caucasian. If I self-identified as black, would that make me one? No. If you're a T, then why do you need to supplement yourself with foreign hormones that you as a person cannot produce? You self-identify as X because you reject yourself as Y on a genetic level.

  • @Paulomycin your case is based on the assumption that gender is simply a biological and genetic product. Not true, the vast majority of Ts don't reject their biology but simply would prefer their outward appearance to match their inner feelings. It's about changing how the world treats you and even how you treat yourself as you look in a mirror, the majority of our perceptions are based on visual cues

  • @BroadwayChick94 Furthermore, we're talking about individuals. That's key. If Lithgow's character did exist, I would see Roberta as far more well-adjusted than most of the Ts I have encountered in the media and IRL. <-- Which in my state are quite a few. You can slap all the negs you want, yet no one can actually reason with me about it. Typical.

  • Thanks for placing it!.A hetero cisgendered male friend of minesaid "our friendship over the past 5 yrs has prety much been like Duncan & Roberta" and seeing this clip I agree and now must read the book and get the movie

  • My suggestion to you is to work on your spelling before you post something on the internet.

  • Hoo kares if u karnt spel as long as u now wat they meen?

  • in the book i always thought of her as a woman, i adore roberta, and it's so sweet how close she gets to Duncan, i never finished the movie, but i read teh novel several times. and by the way, good for you, it takes a lot of courage to change your gender, most people would just dress in drag and leave it at that. i would love to get to know a woman like you, (Not in a sexual way but a friandly way, i'm a girl) any way, i liked your analysis off Roberta's character very much thanks for posting it

  • Ja, this transsexual character is great class and such different to all these clichee types in other movies.

    Great video .

    5*

    Onkel Pete
