I finished that game multiple times, and I nearly cried a few times, not only because it was so good, but because it was so amazing and actually made me feel sad, unlike any other game (other than Chrono Cross). Oh, and one more thing? Most of these tracks suck.YOU FORGOT SOMETHING! Kingdom Hearts and Chrono Cross! Those are the games with the best music, and my top ten is in 3 games, OS, KH and Chrono Cross. HOW COULD YOU LEAVE THOSE LAST TWO OUT?

Why I think #2 is better than #1

1. I'm sure the knowledge that the person is still there is less sad than knowing that they're dead and gone forever

2. Lucas killed his brother. That alone is much worse than having to leave your friend. Also take into consideration that his mom was also killed not too long ago.

3. The whole Mother series was written a whole lot better than the Klonoa series (not that it's not good). I also can't take the Wii one very serioulsy...

Completely agreeing with #2 being almost tearjerking, however, I was hoping to see Be Absentminded from Tales of Phantasia, Sad Song from Super Mario RPG, or maybe even Wiping Tears from Mega Man Battle Network 3 (though most definitely not a #1 slot). If it wasn't for the one-per-franchise rule, I would say that Smiles and Tears from Earthbound (Mother 2) would be a good choice.

#3 and #2 were some of the saddest moments in video game history. Watching 'yourself' die after spending half the game trying to get home and the other half saving the world, and realizing that it was either this or a hellish world for everyone was tear-jerking, not to mention COMPLETELY unexpected from a franchise than had an excuse plot overall. And trying to find your twin brother throughout the whole game to see him kill himself when you finally break the mind control in Mother 3...*sniff*

What's even sadder in Mother 3 is how not only did Claus kill himself to save the others, the game ends with the World being destroyed as the theme of love plays... It's a ending that no matter how many times I see it, I find myself with tears falling from my eyes.

A good sad song for megaman is the one that plays in Megaman x5 when Zero dies, he was cutted in the half, and even in that case he saved Megaman from Sigma, that's really heroic, and really sad, it even give me chills, that was one of the most heroic thing I've seen in my entire life in games.
