Hahaha I love how frustrated he was with the walking thing, it reminded me of a toddler having a tantrum:D Such a cute horse, how'd you train him the yes and no thing?
thank you for all the lovely comments, im hoping to make a new, better video with more recent tricks in the near future.
with regards to your question on getting him to say yees,, this was simplly done by holding a treat down on his chest making him reach for it..all of these tricks were taught with kindness which is why he is so eager to do them.. even doing so when i dont even ask, as he knows he is pleasing me and always gets treated kindly and is i believe a happy pony.
@olivermarkandmurphy Actually, no, not entirely true. He's not wearing the little strap at the bottom of the nosetack (Not sure what it is called in English, in Dutch it's the 'sperriem'), which means his mouth is not impaired from chewing. The bit lays on the part of the mouth where the horse naturally has no teeth, so, as long as his-her chewing is not impaired, it is not dangerous to feed a horse some treats (of course, you have to clean the bit thoroughly after!)
@olivermarkandmurphy The bit and treats is not a problem! Its tall grass you don't want them to eat when the grass can get wrapped around the bit and choke them... but treats... are no problem... :)
i don't get why you'd want to teach your horse to do the spanish walk, surely its just a good way of teaching him to strike you by accident and it can't be very useful...?
amazing video, Im blown away by you two! When you had him doing the little rears, Were you just telling him to do the spanish walk, but with both legs at the same time?
I'm thinking about teaching my 18 year old Saddlebred gelding to lay down & do otherr tricks since I've decided not to show him. Yesterday I taught him to rear up under saddle on command and he picked up on it right away. Do you have any advice for teaching him to lie down??
oh wow!!!!!! Thats amazing! especially sitting down and nodding!!! How do you get that trust and knowledge from a horse!!? I was amazed at ur video! :)
@ImaginedWriter why not have a close relationship with your horse like you do a dog? why is that so strange...they are not machines, each has personality and is individual, and they like to be kept interested and stimulated..! were not in medival times anymore
@horseandpony100 lift one leg, feed carrots and lean them back, got mine to do by accident other day while pickin feet, so i rewarded immediately, however i can see all of this getting a bit confusing at times like, with farrier, and a horse that keeps bowing when you pick up a foot, id coincide it with a tap on back of leg, and finally move away from picking up the foot at all let them get down on one knee on thir own with an instructional tap to back of that knee with stick..:)
Thanks for your comments, If it helps there is a good book from America by Carole Fletcher explaining how to teach these and many other tricks . Im lucky i have a willing pony that seems keen to learn and picks things up easily..Apparently the the irish horses are renown for easy teaching...? I have to say he is a little gem and always tries his very best for me.
Please email me on how to do that you and your horse are absolutely amazing!! How long did it take you to teach him all those and what methods did you use? Thats totally awesome!!!
hi there. sitting is a bit tricky, I trained him with carrots, and basically as he put his front legs out to get up, feed him carrot there first...so he doesnt rush to get up..when after he is comfortable and in no hurry gradually raise to carrot so he comes up on his feet!!! sounds easy, but i think i was just lucky with him..
