  • hey I just got a wacom tablet and im just starting to fool around with it a bit. Now I know I have different software and its just what came with it, but I was just wondering what program you use or would recommend and if you had a certain process with creating images. I can draw on paper just fine but not so much digitally any tips would be appreciated. Also nice video it did give some great tips.

  • "This is a picture of my basement floor" xD I lol'd.

  • Great tutorial, thanks a lot. One question, do you think this guy would get damaged in the chest that much compared to damage to shoulders and arms?

  • Finally a video with actual commentary. Might actually learn something now.

  • To be a douche or to not be a douche, that's the question! I'll try to go for a not, but I can't promise anything XD

  • seriously, it's grill

  • I'm using Photoshop 7 and I don't have "Create clipping mask" under the layers menu and when I use ctrl+G it does the group together. Would you happen to know if there is a way to do the clipping mask in PS7? Thanks!

I am addicted to your tutorials.

  • Omg, it looks so amazing, im so excited to get my WACOM Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch :) hope i get to draw as good as you :)

  • This title is the funniest thing I've seen in this minute.

  • "Right up in it's grill" LOL

Thank you for this, I've always worried of how douchey I come off applying textures. Now I know.

  • @brkyrfaze However, you may increase your douchey level again by saying "in its grill"

  • @RinzRingtail A risk worth taking.

  • haha, love the title of this video

  • Personally, i prefer the pre-flooring picture :P still a good How To though

  • You can also use noise[black and wihte overlay]

  • Your voice is so ridiculous .. looks like a dying deer, take shame !

  • that was good stuff- I need to use the layer mask more to get that gradiated effect of texture that falls off.

  • what software is this?

  • what version of photoshop are you using :) love the tortual ur realy good ^_^

  • This is way too awesome. Now I finally found a use for that. Haha. ((The mask thing.))

  • great skill, but it´s funny that you say you want to make it look like it´s more your work and not photoshops, but actually photoshop is there douing even more than usually

  • how does he fill the mask with black? he hits some keys but doesnt tell te viewers...im a photoshop newbie who would like some answers!!

  • yes the robotic hand is a little weird, anyway is a good illustration, i like the scratch in the chest.

  • 5 stars for video name :D

  • how'd you drag it?

  • Is it just me or does the right arm really look unnaturally stiff and the hand way out of perspective and proportion? Oh, its a "robotic" arm, so that might explain it all but still... strange...

  • "If there's a kumquat, for a robotic arm, that looks perfect..."

    LOL

  • thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us, and yes people really need to learn how to texture properly

  • thx so much again!

  • I still look like a douche, what did I do wrong?

  • i like the title, very original.

  • awesome It was so helpful. You taught me how to do the texturing! Thanks!

  • This is cool, but how do you draw the figure so awesome. I do pictures my self to a point, so think this must have took days to make?..

  • @jiffijaffi Wow, That's the stupidest thing i've ever heard, congratulations.

  • awesome, thank you so much

  • wow iv been painting in textures by hand this entire time. this just seems kinda cheap.. yeah know?

  • well actually now that i think about it, textures have been painted and drawn in like this for centuries.... well not in this way but like in putting the work over a texture and so on and so on.. you guys know this lol

  • I didnt get it clearly: if i want to make the texture grayscale i must make command "shift + u" ????? i didnt heard it clearly

  • ctrl+shift+u

    unless you're on a mac.

  • Thanks. This was pretty useful!

  • should of left the armor and sword that rusty color. please try it

  • That would have looked awful, and would've blended into the background too much.

    Helpful vid, by the way.

  • i can do such stuff without tutorial too

  • you rule dude thank you so much. i get a bit of an edward elric vibe from this painting ;)

  • wonderful video =] thanks for the help =p

  • Fukkn saved.

  • good stuff

  • DAM! 5*

  • lol he said u could use cumquat texture. Funny story. In my microecon class of 38 kids, the professor once talked about cumquat while explaining some shit, and we were all like a what? and he goes how many ppl know what a cumquat is. Apparantely, noone knew lol.

  • Really nice. The mask sugestion is greate.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome bro, just awesome. Subscribed x 2

  • Haha, I agree that some times artists overdo the texturing. I like to start with examples and work with my painting rather than copy paste, filter and mask them in. Your process is the best.

  • Oh, yeah! Get all up in dat grill!

  • Skillz, He Haz Dem.

  • LOL! Its true though.

  • Nice Vid!!! I use phototshop cs3 and a wacom and for some reason it won't draw a perfectly straight line! I did a reinstall on cs3 and it still won't make good lines..they all have little wobbles on them. I've used the tablet in sketchbook pro 09 and the lines are fine...Can this be fixed?

  • yeah in cs3 when you use the brush tool, just click once where you want to start the line and hold either ctrl or shft (i forget which) then while holding one of those buttons down, click again where you want the line to end. Boom, straight line

  • I appreciate it, but that's not the problem. The problem is that when I want to draw a straight line (even with a straight edge on the tablet) it won't make one. Another example is with curves. If I draw a circle (again, even if it's traced with a template) it will have "flat" spots on it. This doesn't happen in other programs like painter. So it can't be my tablet. See what Im gettin at?

  • press F5, and toggle between your brush options.

  • maibe your Pc is to slow.... than it can happen that it laggs, and you'll have flat spots on your circle.

  • Sounds like you've got 'snap to grid' turned on.

  • make a better picture, show it on youtube

then you can say how gay this is

    video owner: good painting man

  • i have looked high and low trying to find the best way to apply textures.

And here it is, all wrapped up with a wicked title.

    Thanks Luke

  • ...o^o... the name of this video made me laugh so hard. xDD

On a side note, THANK YOU.

  • Holy poo, I think got smarter from that... I always thought that it there were so many components and variables constantly changing the picture, and there are, but that sentence you kept saying, "If it looks right, it is right", that made it feel less intimidating. Plus the tips reminded me that there are many different processes of doing things, you just have to look at it from a different perspective. Seriously, you're awesome.

  • you are amazing, thank you for this video. i'll definately use this technique, because i always find that my pictures look... too plain. :D thank you thank you

  • No douches here! Your style is sick man.

  • Nice job man! An informative tutorial that isn't completely boring and dull, not an easy task, but you did a great job :)

  • Thanks man!

  • Thank you for posting this really great, clear tutorial. That's uncommon these days and well appreciated!

  • I really need to start using the mask layer... :/ thanks for the tutorial!!

Also, how do you make the texture grayscaled?

  • ctrl+t = grayscale

  • kay, thanks!

  • did you draw the whole thing of your imagination? or you had a picture or something?!

  • never mind i found it...wow i'm lazy haha

  • r u on cs3??? how do u get the dropdown brushes from the left corner in the beginning of the video? i have just the tips not what the line looks like...any help?

  • tweak your brush display settings. should be right there in that drop menu if I remember correctly.

  • very cool! question, are you using a tablet??

  • Ofc he is

  • Personally I would of set the texture to its own clipping mask then paint in what I want, saves the hassle of layer mask, still, nice work :]

  • that is an insane composition. very expressive. great tutorial also.
