1. If you are smart enough to earn the money, than you are smart enough to spend it.

2. Taking money from those who have earned it and giving it away to poorer people without the consent of the one it was taken from is theft.

3. Private business that have to watch their bottom lines are run more efficiently than a government product that can always be further subsidized through taxes.

4. We already have a progressive tax system. Stop telling us to tax the rich. We did that years ago. (Insert argument about how the mega rich don't pay much in taxes) That isn't income tax territory. That is capital gains tax.

5. I don't want to give tax breaks to the poor. Less than 50% of the population even pays taxes. A large percent of the remainder actually get paid by the government. Do you really want a system where the minority supports the majority, where the majority can vote themselves money at no cost to themselves?

@jimbo525SE But just a couple REALLY short hints: 1, re cap gains tax. A busts his butt, makes $50k/yr. B inherited money, invests it wisely, makes $50k/yr. Why should A pay double the tax B does? The both contributed the same to the economy! I'll tell you why it happens - B owns the politicians! 2, cons always always always, ignore the benefit the rich receive from the public trough. They think they EARNED it all themselves! Well they didn't. They had lots of help from the rest of us.

I guarantee you, perform the same test with harder questions and conservatives and moderates would still dominate liberals. Also I have never ever listened to Rush. I have seen maybe 10-20 shows of Glenn Beck ever. My favorite political commentator is Bill Whittle. Most of my news comes from the evening news, realclearpolitics, and pjtv.

@jimbo525SE Let me be more explicit: One can't learn economics by watching tv or listening to radio. It can't be done. Want a radio-taught surgeon or lawyer?

You want to learn, you have to work at it. Sitting idly listening to broadcasts won't cut the mustard. All it does is fill your head with tripe, and not just any tripe, but corporate-sponsored tripe.

And you know what that means - it means that what you think you know is exactly what they want you to think you know. No more, no less.

@yt5454 I've never claimed to learn econ by watching the news. I have taken both macro and micro econ in high school and college and have gotten an A every time. Actually it is by far the easiest subject I have ever taken. As for the questions on the survey, you don't really have to have studied econ at all. If you read the question and logically think about what would happen, youll get the right answer no supply and demand curves needed.
