a lot of people blame the serial killer plot for making season 5 the weakest. there are some parts of it that are surprisingly true, some that remain implausible. nonetheless, i loved it. as soon as this scene was over i knew this was going to be mcnulty's season.

@TheMFED84 They couldn't fire him. But they made it so that he couldn't work on another case again, just deskbound like Lester (who also got the same punishment for his part in this). As a result, they both quit the BPD.

@sunnypop28 Considering Marlo's lawyer Levy managed to figure out something wasn't adding up when he thought about the timing of the warrants, the code-breaking, and the arrests, McNulty's and Freamon's scheme would have been discovered eventually. It would've been a WORSE shitstorm if Levy had convinced a judge to pull the phone records on the wiretap to find it was being used on Marlo. Everyone would've been caught completely off-guard and Carcetti would've had NO time to work out a cover-up.
