Hunters have rules they must abide by--like in episode six where they had to obey the traffic laws while chasing the contestants through downtown LA. Hunters can only detect you if they have direct line-of-sight or are within hearing range. On a side comment, note how the players all wear bright colors (red, blue, yellow, etc). This is intentional.
