What are "gospel chops". How do I know when I am hearing a gospel chop. So if I listen to Dave Weckl or Vinnie Coliauta what type of chops am I listening to. I always thought that chops are chops. Someone please enlighten me.
Aaron Spears is part of the next generation of drums who will be considered the best of their time, along with Tony Royster Jr, they have some work to get to THAT level, but they will be there. Right there with Chambers or Weckl
@LiveAllegroDieAdagio Yeah!!! You are right!!! Let me add someone else to your list. Most cats these days don't listen to Gospel music. If you want to see drumming almost to perfection, check out Calvin Rodgers. He played on his first major label record at age 15
@DrummerZful have you watched this guy? he has more than just chops... and i do believe i said that he DOES has work to do. but make a note, he will be there.
i think im the only one who dosent like this , it seems so unthoughtful and its not organized at all but dont get me wrong aaron spears is just amazing but not in the video come on aaron you can do WAYYY better than this
One of my former teachers was the touring drummer for Mark Wahlburg back in the day. Now he's all gospel and a bad ass on the kit. My point? Don't hate, Gospel music has some of the most dynamic drumming I've ever heard.
I honestly like Travis Barkers' drumming better on this song. He's just more intense especially on the chorus part, and that's why I like his better. The thing about Travis is that he's not always going to be the better drummer when compared to others as far as technique and chops, but his intensity is hard to match. That's just my opinion, don't slay me for saying I like his better lol. Aaron Spears clowned though no doubt.
@ metalheaddrapper: he's playing to "simply unstoppable" by tinie tempah. Look up Travis barker's version. Aaron spears is better than Travis, but Travis killed it.
@1luvquincy ery one knnows tony is the best dick sucker...........Aaron has more flava though.......nick smith is on the rise fuckerssss......check him out sometimes!!!
@BLDRUMMIN Ah, i typed my comment wrong, was in a rush. Yeah man i totally agree, i meant that i prefer Aaron Spears style. Travis Barker is still a top drummer, but nowhere near as versatile as the Aaron Spears', Tony Roysters and Buddy Rich.. to name a few lol
Aaron is a beast one of the best to ever do it buttttttttttt at the same time I swear IMO that he gets sloppy sometimes. I dont want anyone to think Im hating cause Im not. I love Aarons drumming I thinkhes on another level, I just think sometimes so of the things he plays gets sloppy. By that I don't mean playign over the beat or playing a off beat but hes on beat and comes back in on the 1, I dont mean that its just hard to explain
@EkimWahs the reason he is probably very creative is that he has control of those 32nds and whatnot at that speed. It's all about that control, like I can do some chopppy stuff around 60 bpm-80 bpm. And then I start to have issues doing what I WANT afterwards. It makes me feel bad, bro lol
LOL! Naw on the real though. We as gospel choppers will never convince the world how our chops are useful, yet those same ppl always wonder how we can do and play every genre of music there is. I dont worry about those type of ppl anymore. If you're a gospel chopper than do your thing and dont worry bout everybody else cuz in the end, you're still getting paid just like them. Lol!
@MrUSChopper06 Does the world need convincing? Last time I checked, the drumming world has (rightfully so) always praised you guys. I wish I had some of these chops man. More power to ya.
@DRUMKINGZ Most drummers are, but he's still ridiculously good without a band. Also you can't really hear the music, I guarantee you'd be able to comprehend his chops a lot more if you could hear how they integrate with the music more clearly.
@DRUMKINGZ Personally I've never thought that about his chops, but even so, Steve Gadd's licks are all the same but that's what makes his style so recognisable. I think you need some distinctive ideas - I can recognise Thomas Pridgen's licks instantly too because of the sort of ideas he uses.
@Kaycee31GreatKing I know, it's like if you don't get gospel chops why bother watching a video where you know you're going to hear a guy deploying gospel chops. I'm pretty much the only gospel influenced drummer at my uni and everyone else thinks gospel chops are pointless. I try to point out that every gospel drummer I listen to is amazingly successful and have the best paid gigs right now :P I think people who listen to too much Punk/Rock music just won't understand really :P
