I will just stick to my matching, timing and switching thanks.... I thinks that's more if a racer type of driving street, street driving is more clutch, shift, even it with the gas, release clutch and repeat when needed hahaha!!! look at me just learned how to drive a stick at 13yrs. old I'm good!!!! But good driving skills Yo!!!
nice work man, when you do a hard lounge and your on a slight hill do you think you should put the hand brake up or what should you do to avoid rolling back with you clutch in?...
@upizdown its more of a racing technique. Heel-toeing is basically rev-matching while you are braking. By doing this, you are in the correct gear, and the right speed while entering the corner.
@simonking195 This is a great step in getting people to feel more comfortable with driving sticks. Also, don't hate on America. We pioneered the automotive assembly line and helped propel the auto industry to what it is today, which probably wouldn't be the same without.
braking is more efficient if you don't rev match and downshift ;) you only use rev matching if you have to accelerate and don't have the necessary gear...and by rev matching correct me if i'm wrong....you don't loose speed
@xxxtoxxxandxxx Braking is more efficient if you don't rev match. But if you're in a curve and downshift without rev matching in a rear wheel drive car it can cause you to spin out. Even on wet pavement you've gotta be careful downshifting like that or the rear end can get pretty silly.
good video dude, your use of double clutch is so cool. It is true that it is for professional driving and if you don't have a good motor you don't perceive the difference so much... but some times is fun to practice it in close curves roads.
na i know what it is for high rpm when u turning u still have that power to let off... i did on the freeway it gave me more power without the tranny yanking the speed down its pretty kool this for racing purpose
@vinceperez158 normal downshifting without revmatching (or more complicatedly, heel toeing) is a pain in the ass to everyone. It lurches the car, making the ride uncomfortable for passengers and puts unnecessary strain on the clutch
I use "heel and toe" all the time, but I use the left and right side of the ball of my foot rather than my actual heel. The pedals on that car look a little too far apart for that method though.
I agree. My first car was Mazda 323 1.3l (75 hp)and it helped me to become a better driver. I was pushing it hard and had few accidents( nothing serious). After that I got 1.6 Civic(130hp) with few modifications and i drive alot better thanks to my previous car.
Everyone should do the same. Dont try being a hero in 5.0l monster if youve got no XP. Do everything step by step. Learn to walk before trying to run.
@konholio2 yer i agree with you there im a learner atm ive got a shitty corolla 88 but its a great car to learn in, and the other day i jumped in my sisters new xr6, big power diffrence lol, i see why so many people die with bigger engines, they cant handle them
@ozzydopeman haha, yea i guess that could be a problem... i never tried heel-toe, now i want to. "problem" though is that i just ordered a mustang 5.0 :D guess ill have to try it with a big engine
In my opinion the best way of becoming a better driver is to just buy a cheap ass underpowered car e.g a honda civic with a 1.4L engine or a toyota corolla with a 1.4L or something like that and basically just experiment with it, get to grips with the car and the physics of driving, try different pedal techniques and keep driving as much as you can. Before you know it, you will become a half decent driver and you will be pushing your little Japanese car to its limit.
@gogalicio maybe you just don't know how to drive a manual that's why you say these Ahole! Most accident occur with manual cars because you practically do nothing which makes the driver lazy, wherein manual you get to be more aware. Also, if you know how to drive a manual, you can practically spit on automatics that's how easy and suckish automatics are to drive!
I find you can only really do a smooth heel and toe when your going for it a bit because otherwise the brake is difficult to modulate if its only down very lightly. Its best to be doing reasonably heavy braking when attempting to heel and toe.
What I never got is the point of braking when you're going to heel and toe really really fast, like you did at 4:45. It's not like you really braked all that much within that second of shifting.
i must be an idiot, but is he even hitting the clutch???? it looks like he is going inbetween the creak and clutch pedal.... other then that, nice video, popping sucks.
Nice mini. Have you had any mechanical problems with it at all..I'm looking at getting a JCW Mini sometime in the future but have read some complaints from mini owners about reliability
How do I know what to bring the rpms up to when single clutch downshifting? And then should I just the clutch as soon as I rev match or release it slowly?
@Rome50cent but it was to staticy go to his profile he has the advance manual techniques remake smaller more details u can hear it better and no static
@SpencerYoungTV, that works, but the point behind this technique is to keep nice and smooth power through a corner instead of losing that power by going into neutral and breaking and then hitting the gas to gain the power back.
@GTRantunez well its just a racing technique you dont have to use it its only if you want. Motocycles all use it listen to when they brake...(not every single one most of them) and also its to help you slow down faster and getting engine speed up its good when you know how to use it

@lolaroflmao there are only 3 filipino pros thats manny pacquio the boxer, bata reyes the pool player, and the filipino bitch im with right now and hell yeah she a pro
What's the difference between single and double clutching? I'm talking about the result and the advantages of one over another, of course. I understand the movements...
I just didn't get the reason for doing one over another. Single clutch seems easier and quicker in every situation...
Thats what I do but with a double clutch not a single. When I get on the brake I put the clutch in at the same time and put it in neutral and left off the clutch. Right before I want to get on the gas I heal toe rev match then put it in the gear I want and get on the gas. I normally don't do it on the street though because I normally have sandals on or poor driving shoes. Wrestling/racing shoes are the best but running shoes work ok.
Why use heel-toe technique in a 2005 Mini cooper ??? No need to do that ... its only used in old cars wich dont have a syncronized gearbox, I am pretty sure the Mini has it lol. It cant hurt the car if u do it tough :) nice driving.
@phtmexplo synchros wear out, you should blip on downshift to reduce this wear.... modern cars that are a few years old that crunch are due to synchro wear.... hell-toe is a race technique that allows you to break while downshifting and rev matching, helps with maintaining your line while engine braking, not such a common technique on the road ;)
@utubeski42 ok it helps on the braking but thats only required "if u dont use the brakes" (if u want to brake on the engine) no racedriver will ever use engine-brake alone ...,
Rev matching is NOT required on cars from nowadays, they all have synchro gearboxes now. On old-timers and racecars on the other hand its very usefull (so they dont need to double-clutch).
On this mini (unless its a "full-racecar" mini) ... not needed ...
The nice this about a stick shift is the fact if done right you don't even need your breaks you basically scrub off the excess speed with the lower gear saves on breaks and does no harm to anything else unless you do it wrong so don't just go out there and downshift .... Go look up how to... =/
fuck you fucking driver ayes slim.. Kitayoza hyev .
dumb question but new at manual... at what gear should i be in when making my turns say 90 degree turns... is it bad if i just hold down my clutch and break till im slow enough then just pick which gear to throw it in based on speed or is there a better way to try... thanks for any help man your videos are deff useful and one more thing, i think i seen u do it to but nobody realy told me so when pushing my clutch in do i have to mat it or is that bad..
@LastShawn since you are new to standard you should just try rev match down shifting its really easy to do and you will have beater control if you need it when coming up to a corner. then just pushing in the clutch and breaking
@sonyericson20 try memorizing your engine's ratios. For example, my gti's 2nd gear, roughly every thousand rpm equals 10mph. so 3000rpm is 30 mph give or take.
@22rockify you typically dont downshift back to first. when you stop you let the engine compress in either third or second, and right before you fully stop you push the clutch down and go in neutral. and before you go back you engage first and voila!
Iv tried rev matching in a ford escape 2.5I with 171hp...Fwd...pedals just don't cooperate. I can do a hard launch now but its defiantly not the best thing for that tiny engine. (I started driving manuals this spring and we dont own one, my god father does so I only have Sundays to practice.)
cool, i never knew what heel toe was exactly for. saying " rev match" a lot tells me why now haha. thanks. is this what u hear when a lot of pro racers take a turn? cuz when im watching a race sometimes i hear a "vroom vroom vroom" (downshifting i assume) then when they hit the apex they gun it out of the turn. correct??

@utubeski42 ok it helps on the braking but thats only required "if u dont use the brakes" (if u want to brake on the engine) no racedriver will ever use engine-brake alone ...,
Rev matching is NOT required on cars from nowadays, they all have synchro gearboxes now. On old-timers and racecars on the other hand its very usefull (so they dont need to double-clutch).
On this mini (unless its a "full-racecar" mini) ... not needed ...

hey dont listen to these other people you are the master of a stick shift....what kind of car do you have??
6JustinElkins 1 year ago
only makes sense if you have no syncronized gearbox or you can blip the clutch pedal enough to shift its way faster
jayguy173 1 year ago
The nice this about a stick shift is the fact if done right you don't even need your breaks you basically scrub off the excess speed with the lower gear saves on breaks and does no harm to anything else unless you do it wrong so don't just go out there and downshift .... Go look up how to... =/

dumb question but new at manual... at what gear should i be in when making my turns say 90 degree turns... is it bad if i just hold down my clutch and break till im slow enough then just pick which gear to throw it in based on speed or is there a better way to try... thanks for any help man your videos are deff useful and one more thing, i think i seen u do it to but nobody realy told me so when pushing my clutch in do i have to mat it or is that bad..
LastShawn 1 year ago
@LastShawn
2nd gear can handle even the slowest turns...its ok to hold the clutch untill your slow enough but when your ready to give it gas, shift to 2nd
daydaydadon 1 year ago
@LastShawn since you are new to standard you should just try rev match down shifting its really easy to do and you will have beater control if you need it when coming up to a corner. then just pushing in the clutch and breaking
dusd0 1 year ago
@LastShawn I would suggest 2nd gear.. unless you come to a complete stop, then 1st, but if your still moving 2nd gear

When will the car stalls?? and can you release the clutch totally before applying the throttle??
hotsoupmess 1 year ago
with the window down we can hear the engine better so rev matching is easier
jam8828 1 year ago
nice shifting but how do you know what revs its supposed to be at when you downshift?
sonyericson20 1 year ago
@sonyericson20 try memorizing your engine's ratios. For example, my gti's 2nd gear, roughly every thousand rpm equals 10mph. so 3000rpm is 30 mph give or take.

wen u stop at a stop sign do u hav to go bak to the first gear or can u just stop at second or third?
22rockify 1 year ago
@22rockify you typically dont downshift back to first. when you stop you let the engine compress in either third or second, and right before you fully stop you push the clutch down and go in neutral. and before you go back you engage first and voila!

Iv tried rev matching in a ford escape 2.5I with 171hp...Fwd...pedals just don't cooperate. I can do a hard launch now but its defiantly not the best thing for that tiny engine. (I started driving manuals this spring and we dont own one, my god father does so I only have Sundays to practice.)
But thanks
BuffaloWarrior7 1 year ago
cool, i never knew what heel toe was exactly for. saying " rev match" a lot tells me why now haha. thanks. is this what u hear when a lot of pro racers take a turn? cuz when im watching a race sometimes i hear a "vroom vroom vroom" (downshifting i assume) then when they hit the apex they gun it out of the turn. correct??
