  • good job i plan on just driving my golf and not crashing it =)

  • haha the trabant was much better :)...eastgermany won (again)

  • i have my lovely mk2 gti too and i'm still alive

  • im driving golf 2... im not scared.

if im gonna die by car accident,

im not the one who have to clean up the bloddy mess thats left behind -.=.-

  • working as intended?

  • and all dead

  • Well.. you get a nice and soft landing. ;o)

  • fuck i have 2 mk2's lol

  • @soltk poor SKI :P

  • Thats not a video you wanna watch if you drive a Golf 2

  • lol i`m getting one of these for my 18th birthday.... does it come with a coffin?

  • @TheJorens this car is coffin. lol

  • well its not very good but lets not forget it came out 25 or so years ago

  • O noga motyla!!!

  • If you compare this with the newer golfs, the difference is large. The passenger compartment crumples noticeably more on this.

  • this is great cinsidering crumple zones and stuff like that didnt really exist when this was built and it did ok most would survive with injuries i reckon

  • just avoid cement blocks when driving one of these :)

  • the dummy actually crashed with the wall>>>

  • deathcapsule

  • deathcapsule

  • omg, mi bike is better

  • I still do not see any engine parts in the engine room ..

and yes, I have a golf model year 1990.

  • Weird, it looks even worse than the mk1 crash test!

  • solution- fit bilstein shaock and yokohama tyres, then dodge the accident!

  • yikes

  • good cars aren't made for crashing (there made for driving)

  • @EPzti only Volvo.. ;)

  • good cars aren't made for crashing (there made for driving)

  • thats what you call an advanced crumple zone

  • surprise but sex

  • SEX

  • I crashed in an exact 1986 VW Golf into the back of a 2002 Toyota Corolla at 50 mph on the freeway, my car got totalled of course but the A-pillar and windshield didn't even bend or break like it looks in the video, and I walked away with only a bruise on my leg and that's all, this video has to be above 80mph and crashing onto a steel plate or someshit!

  • @kharlitossway i think this is actually a 35mph test. but a Corolla will give way. a metal box filled with concrete will not.

  • dead

  • you guys are all idiots. it crashed very well, if you see closely the cockpit comes out almost intact, which most of the other cars back then didnt.

it is just normal that the engine compartment is damaged.

  • @DWHackInfection Besides his face getting annihilated. Yea I'd say so.

  • I just Wont Crash mine LOL

  • Yeah baby, my snapon box is un destroyable

  • Golf mk2 is an unsafe car. In my neighborhood, one Golf mk2 crashed not so long ago,and the crash was so ferocious that the Golf's engine entered the cabin. Driver was lucky because engine entered at such angle that it didn't crush him. The engine would have crushed the passenger on the front seat if one was there, but luckily, only driver was in the car and he wasn't hurt to badly.

  • DIE :(

  • @ mayday87 View crash test with the Cherry Amulet, or the VAZ 2107, Mr. I assure you you will come to the horror!!!

  • I gave an old jetta to wreck it.

it was from 88 and as safe as the seen golf

  • Any car from that period would give, more or less, the same results...

  • Volvo would come out much better. I gues u own this type of car. Just dont crash.

  • I said more or less... Yes, I had one... This golf turned into a can, it is obvious... But less damage to the car doesnt always mean more safety for the passengers...

  • I agree with you to certain point. Have never been a big fan o volvo or any vw car. I like cars which are made for enthusiast bring fun and joy and vw is not one of them. I know golf was a big selling succes, but no golf until today can offer what i am expecting to get from the car. I own Legacy GT. And probably will change this next year for Alfa Brera. I would never buy any of these german mainsttream in my life. Thanks for your comment though.

  • Yes, that is true, VW is oriented in a totally different way, they offer cars for people that need to go from point A to point B... VW "fun" cars are VW golf GTI, R32, Scirocco, which are great cars, cults actually, but can not be compared to an Alfa GTV, GT, Brera which offer a much greater sport experience and stylish looks...

  • Hey buddy im in no cult! Maybe i am O_O lol

  • @ObrenNBG Mister, you look at crash test VAZ 2107 and you will not have any questions .))))

  • @ObrenNBG watch the e36 crash test. Unreal

  • @savage147 The BMW E36 was produced from 1991 to 2000... Golf MK2 was produced from 1983 to 1991... They can't be compared.

  • @ObrenNBG I was just comparing my 92 325 to my 92 GTI..

  • @ObrenNBG

With the exception of the Volvo 240 series, I agree. The old 240 might not have had much in the name of "modern," electronic safety features (and no side air bags) but the it has to have one of the strongest safety cages I've ever seen. Combine that with the front and rear crumble zones, and you've got one of the "best" crashing cars ever designed...especially given the fact that the car came to life in the 1970s.

  • @ObrenNBG

an W126 mercedes benz would give a quite distinguishable result.

  • @Andreas1986xyz Probably, but Golf 2 and W126 are different classes... Much different.

  • Trabant is more safer than this car, I think.

  • At 0:05 you can see that something is broken uder doors.

EuroNcap has cutted all safety elements only for one reason.... to show how much better are new cars, but they arent, 1980s cars are one of the best in SAFETY and Design! I have seen alot of crashed VW Golfs 2 , their condition after crash are much, much better!

  • I have seen VW Golf and Jetta wrecked after crash, and they look fine.

This video says that old cars are dangerous and you must sell them, but they arent bad.

If Golf 2 has good tyres, in offroad its better than many 4X4

  • hahahah good tyres? like anyone still has the original tyres? lol

  • Did u see that! Thats what they called safty!

  • very save car!

  • uau che bootto!!!

  • i dont want that car :(

  • fail?

  • Lada Samara better in crash test

  • 64km/h

  • how fast is this?

  • For those days (we're talking about 25 years ago), the Golf mk2 was one of the best built and safest cars of the lot. And still was about 10 years later. I think VW did a great job with the mk2.

Unfortunately the mk3 was rubbish, but you can't win them all, can you? ;-)

  • heeeeeeyyyy i have a mark3. :)

  • some MODERN japanese, french cars do even worse ...

  • lucky ive got a rollcage in mine then

  • me too .... we luckers....

  • Guess I better wear a helmet when I drive the scirocco lol

  • it's no wonder - golf II was based on golf !, which did just as bad

  • driver R.I.P :)

  • everybody in the car R.I.P :)

  • Ich fahr auch Golf 2 und ich glaub bevor ich nächsten Winter nen VR6 einbau, bau ich lieber erst nen Käfig rein =) bessa is das =)

  • A truck hit us from the side at a intersection at around 30mph in one of these, and Im happy to say the only thing that happened to me was glass stuck in my ear

  • sheesh....when i was a kid my parents had this one....it's rusty now but has a huge mileage....now i'm just happy to be alive....

  • im gonna get 1 of these nxt yr and im gonna put a roll cage in :D

  • Dead!

  • well car

  • You can still die at speeds you can reach with a Golf diesel, so I can't see why installing a bigger engine are something idiotic. Just remember to use the inside of the head when there's horsepowers under the bonnet.

  • my mk2 VR 6 turbo has 650 whp only at 17psi now put that in your pipe and smoke that

  • Yes, I understand what you mean,...but I was a little bit shocked about the damage of this Golf type after this test.....So I though to myself; ''HolyShit....What happens when you have a VR6 engine or another powerfull engine and you crash with a very high speed..

I think there's a big chance people who built in a VR6 engine want to drive fast and sporty...

Cars with low powered engines don't invite to drive on that way.

But indeed...........you can also die with that kind............

  • This is better than the... uh recent cheap chinese cars!

  • sad but so true

  • @hklinus no, chinese cars have a few stars and this would have in today's rating below zero

  • @hklinus Well ofcourse this golf is 10000000000......000000+ times more than resent chinese and japanese BULLCRAPS!!!

  • @drMINDdamage Japanese aint that bad.. Check before posting:)

  • @LambiPowah666 I am cheking for years and i just dont like them! A heck of a lot of people hate em! And Chineese..please! German American and British mashines are real shit!

  • @hklinus i dont see any difference :D

  • Cage, buckets and harnesses, you'll be reet!

  • doesnt look safe the driver would probably be crushed but it is good for its size and its age

  • compared to today it doesn't seem that safe but for that time it was very good and its still better than todays cheap chinese cars.

  • Much better than the current chinese cars!

  • of course guys it was build by germans ;-P

  • I had one of these, it was built like a freaking tank, frankly!

  • pretty good for car that age and size.

  • I disagree with u about two cars crashing, traveling at 20mph each, reason being is that this crash test involves crashing into a solid object whilst if two cars collide they will both crumple to a certain extent......good car though...was safe back in the 80s....comes off worse with modern machinery due to the fact that new cars are so well designed wrt safety......

  • its old!

  • to be honest i was expecting worse

  • Und was lernen wir daraus??

Immer schön vorsichtig fahren (meiner hat noch nicht mal Airbag bj 87 / 342,675km) 1.3Liter

  • piece o poo!

  • Its Hatchback BrO!!! and for late 80 early 90 it was GooD!!!

  • how does the golf mk2 suck haha for its age it performed well, if you compare it to other vehcles of its age (around 1986) maybe the ford fiesta this would be good still, volkswagens have always been successful with build quality and safty for its time and age. veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedub

  • am affriad fir driving my golf2 now

  • me 2. damn :/

  • just dont crash into a concrete wall and youll be fine

  • come to think of it, what HAPPENS to the engine when it goes soda-can style like that? does it just turn into a pancake or does the car not have an engine in it in this test?

  • Engines of cars are designed to move downwards as much as poss to help prevent them going through the front bulkhead as they get pushed back. However if the whole front structure has collapsed right up without all the energy being absorbed the engine will get pushed into the bulkhead causing it to collapse. This crash is offset so the engine for the best part would have been twisted to the left and instead of through the bulkhead. The cabin still collapsed due forces than it could not withstand

  • Thanks God i had a golf MK2 when i had front crash. With another car i would be DEAD and 6ft underground!

  • That's why Drazen Petrovic lost his life... R.I.P. Drazen

  • who is drazen?

  • Drazen Petrovic, one of the best european and world basketball players.

  • Meh i'll still drive mine..

  • ouch!! does any body know what speed thats at? hope its not 30!

  • Standard EuroNCAP-Speed.

  • one star for legend

  • lol

  • Zero stars

  • je ne parle beacoup de francais, mais pour une voiture, que a beaucoup d'anees, c'est tres bien!

  • catastrophique...

  • i hope i never get in an accident

  • dangerous...

  • nice car though i'd still drive it

  • Aww :( mk2 Golf's rock! :(

  • The great thing about knowing that your car is dangerous in a crash is that you'll drive a lot more carefully in it. Think about it - if you knew there was a sharp spike behind the steering wheel, would you be texting on your mobile phone while overtaking a juggernaut on a windy country road? Don't think so!

  • You're right man, that's the reason why I was looking for this video and this was more or less what I expected to see.

  • Ach du schande.. der klappt zusammen wie nix. Wenn man überlegt wie viele es davon noch auf Deutschlands Strassen gibt. Puh

  • You just have to take the rough with the smooth. You may not survive a crash but the Mk2 Golf does make for a comfortable that's cheap to run. l love mine and won't be parted with it.

  • you forgot to add "I will not be parted with it in happyness and sorrow, life, and death...amen"

  • As someone said earlier it is not fair to use a crumple impact for one car and a solid impact block for another car and compare the results. Having said that I drive around in a Golf MK2 and that does look scarey.

Having taken the panels off the side door of my Golf I could see how it would stand little chance in a side impact.

  • It may be 40 mph, but the object it is colliding with is not crumple friendly - even when you hit a wall or lamp post, it crumples or breaks!

  • I own one of theses golf. I think from now I will sell my car and walk...

  • You can slate new cars for being bland and without character, but in this field they have moved on a long way.

  • This crash was from a car magazine testing OLD USED cars... they crashed a old beetle MkI, Golf Mk II Golf III and Golf IV they wanted to show the change in safty over the last decades, this Golf MkII was pretty old and high on miles as they crashed it. During it´s time the Golf Mk II was good in crash tests.

  • i don't believe that is at 40mph. Who cam up with that stat and how did you find out?

  • Look up EuroNCAP or IIHS and read their testing procedure, it is the same. This was conducted by the German ADAC who does tests for EuroNCAP.

  • oh shit i have one mk2

  • don't worry looks like the crumple zone is, well your chest.

  • just think that this a 64km/h crash

  • jajajajaja mee too

  • Yes, and furthermore say, that you thought it was safe, rofl. I have Jetta MK2 and I know that it is unsafe crap. Only cars with air bags can be safe...

  • when you look at the position of the sidemirror it's a pre-1987 golf because the later models have 1 big window in the door and the sidemirror is placed at the beginning of the door.

  • mk2 were from 1985-1992 , bruital crash engine or no engine i wouldent care to hit a wall in mine does anyone know how fast the car was going?

  • 64 km/h (40 mph)

  • oIo danger

  • those are called mark 1's aka rabbits and foxes.

  • looser

  • test it whit a engine next time

  • fukin hell, scared of crashin mine now:P

  • you have to remember mk2 were made in 89-92. different standards to now

    idiots.

  • actually i think it's 84-92 , meaning it has been designed 82-83 , round quarter of a century ago ...

  • It doesn't take much to notice that they crash it into a solid block and not the deformable block like they do in the Golf IV crash so it's hardly an accurate comparison.

  • holy fuckin shit theres fuck all left of the golf

  • oh bollocks...

  • Nooooo!!! why an Golf MKII?? why???

  • this is an offset crash so its obviously going to be much worse than a straight, head on collision. maybe a 5-point racing harness would help, haha.

  • Maybe he should look again at a small modern Renault/ FIAT/ VW for a 5 star NCAP car and compare it with the test results for a Chrysler Voyager or Chevy Aveo.

Look them up on euroncap . com

  • I remeber seein' a comparative test of all the compact cars of the 80's era and the golf mk2 earned the best scores of all for occupant protection. funny thing, some of the other cars had fresher desings than the mk2. this showed that vw was ahead sefety wise even back in these days..

in 1993, auto motor und sport, a german car magazine conducted the same test. The golf mk3 against all the other compacts. guest what? !st place for the Golf again! same scenario.

  • my mate has one of these and we nearly crashed while going round a corner

  • JEBUS! I drive one of these and I'm going to be super careful now! Mind you, I used to drive a 1961 microbus to work each day and I shudder to think about the consequences of a head on crash in THAT.

  • oh great, thats ruined it

  • I have golf III. I would like to see its test on same way (Ncap 64 km/h) and side test aswell, but I dont find :( But Volvo and Saab seems to be safest in the world.

  • Ich glaub ich verschrotte meine 4 golfs ...wenn man des sieht :D

  • no manches!! no soporta nada el chasis es una porqueria te podrias matar ahi

  • i crashed one of these into a wall at 70 -80 mph and i was fine. Guess i was lucky looking at this !

  • Oh, my god. But then again, for its time it was good.

  • that wasent too bad too be a car from the 80's..? Remember its a small and cheap ca:P

  • This is probably at least a 70mph crash, I had the same thing happen at 50 and walked away, then again it was a Jetta

  • it was 40mph (64kmph)with 40%cover
