  • OMG I saw you guys opening for Arlo back in '93, and you did an a capella version of this...I was shaking and almost in tears--that's how AWESOME it was!\m/

  • ...Its always great to see the writer perform his own song!!! This looks like it was around 1988...My best friend and mentor, Joe Schermie (bass player for Three Dog Night) introduced me to Hoyt Axton up in North Hollywood around this time when he was on the road...What a thrill!!!

  • I dedicate this song to my dear friend Carole Hansen with thanks for making me a Hoyt Axton fan...so many years ago !!!

  • Love this...and I loved Hoyt! He was unique and seemed so down to earth. One of the first dates my husband of almost 33 years took me on was to a Hoyt Axton concert in Eugene, Oregon. It was a magical time...the excitement of new love....Hoyt Axton...and Hoyt announcing that the Portland Trailblazers had won the NBA championship! Does it get any better than that? I am going to send Chuck Negron who sang this with 3 Dog Night a link..he will get a kick out of it! RIP Hoyt..we miss you so!

  • thank you so for this new video of hoyt...they are so rare...thank you!! more please

  • jguth3, Thanks for rambling on with that story cause they can't all be told w/the camera. That sounds just like something Hoyt would do. We miss him too. When I first saw this vid. I said "hey, there's Abe Guthrie! Thanks for the share. Blessings to all the guth3s.

  • Thank you for sharing...and the story you shared is sweet!!! Happy New Year!!!!

  • Thank you for posting the Hoyt Axton videos and telling your story about the bear!

  • Great Hoyt story!

    Gracias.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I miss old Hoyt too. And feel free to ramble. The stories are great. You should put them in a book.

  • Great footage since we lost a true musical legend. Hard to believe it was ten years ago. Great songwriter and performer, and you can tell he was a great guy when you hear the interviews with him too. I was surprised when I first heard he wrote "The Pusher," and "Snowblind Friend."

  • Great personal moment! Did Hoyt Axton write this song?

  • @gamoonbat Yes he did. I think he originally wrote it for a "childrens show" that never happened.

  • @gamoonbat Hoyt wrote this song and "Never Been to Spain"; both covered by Three Dog Night. Also, wrote "Pusher" and "Snow Blind Friend"; both of those covered by Steppen Wolf. My favorite has always been "Never Been to Spain". One of the greatest song ever written, IMO. His mother wrote "Heartbreak Hotel". Bet you don't know who covered that one most memorably.

  • @Freddieboy44 - Elvis Presley covered Heartbreak Hotel. I did not know that Boren Axton wrote it.

  • @gamoonbat I didn't know her name, but I've read it several times and have had people agree that she wrote when it is brought up. I was just searching around the other day here on youtube and there's a video, I guess, for the ending of a Hoyt Axton TV special, where he says that he wrote the "No, no" song that Ringo Starr did. I think he's wrote alot more that we're not aware of. His mother too.

  • @Freddieboy44 - Hoyt's mom was actually named Mae Boren Axton, or "Mama Mae" by those who knew her. I wrote the above before I read the whole Wiki entry.

  • @gamoonbat Thanks for the info. I've always been curious about such things as this. I'll check this out. I've always been interested more in the movers than the shakers. Hoyt and his mom seems (IMO) more of the mover trend.

  • @Freddieboy44 HOyt's mom wrote Teddy Bear, I didn't know about the other one though.

  • @moles2000 Well, I didn't know about Teddy Bear, so thanks for that info, but I have heard many times and through various sources over the years that she wrote Heartbreak Hotel.
