  • bellissima

  • une très très grande artiste avec une voix qui donne des frissons dans le dos....

  • Pretty damned good. Beautiful sound, beautiful woman.

  • exquisite! more delicate and elegant than the studio recording, but just as powerful.

i bought the cd when it first came out and listened to it for many months...

i still put it on ten years later...what a great gift she has and how she uses it...

  • Agree, sweet!

  • Absolutely perfect!!!!!

  • Vocally this is the best version I've heard, but the drums make this song. Just didn't sound right without them.

  • Can anyone tell me if that is Larry Klein on bass?

  • i was thier best ive ever seen emmy she is very special

  • you are right, the problem is being POOR and having 5 kids

  • I don't get the disrespect part. "Red Dirt Girl" is a story, and those details are part of the story. It's not saying that anyone from a red dirt town or anyone who has 5 kids by the age of 27 is messed up. It's simply telling a story of a girl who had dreams that were crushed, and this is the story of how it happened.

  • @mabewa I agree! If this were writing it would be a novel, or a least a short story, not a blog or magazine opinion piece nor a political pamphlet: it is a reportage rather than sociology, a snapshot rather than a documentary.

Whatever, I like this song because it makes me cry, and that takes skill.

  • What gets me is that the song is obviously written about the American South, but I'm from rural Washington State, and this song reminds me of so many people I grew up with. It's a heartbreaking story that also rings completely true to me.

  • @mabewa Its obviously SET in the American South, but is not about there. It reminds you of your past, as it does me, who grew up in a suburb, but who in this small country was never that far away from the rural. A story of lost hopes and limited horizons is pretty universal, and that is where her skill lies, in making the particular speak to us all. Are we done agreeing? :-)

  • Unfortunately you are confirming my point exactly michaelmouse1 - you have now made explicit the subtle prejudices implicit in that song.

  • two of my favorite emmylou songs...thanks.

  • very very beautiful!!!

Her voice is full of emotion and I am very

happy to have found Emmylou on YT.

    Thank you for posting this.

  • ...you're tearing my heart out Emmyloo...

  • Purest voice in music.

The Emmylous and Dollys of the world are what mainstream Country Music has forgotten. Less LoneStar and Rascal Flats please, more of this.

  • C;est bien!

  • I will be seeing Emmylou, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller at the Birchmere in Alexandria Va next Tuesday, Feb.3, 2009. I've seen Emmylou several times, and I can't wait for the concert next week.

  • Very beautiful.

Mary Ann Kennedy and Pam Rose singing and playing also.

I have searched the Web for some video of Kennedy-Rose when they did a PBS show on Austin City Limits to no avail. That is where I first saw and heard them and I was hooked forever. I wish someone could find and post it

  • "one thing they don't tell you 'bout the blues when you got 'em, is you keep on fallin' cause there ain't no bottom... there ain't no end"

incredible, wish i had thought of that =D

  • God bless you babe!

  • Oh ... just your average Emmylou -> meaning: It merely goes from absolutely gorgeous to soooo moving that you're left nearly stunned. Two amazing songs sung by ... well ... Emmylou Harris. Need more be said?

I think that even more so than the beautiful "quality" of her voice is the "soul" that resonates within it. A soul that seems to know intimately pain, wisdom, AND peace.

Thanks for this great vid post! And Thanks to Emmylou!!!

    Cheers!

  • fuck yeah!

    yeah sorry i'm hammered.

  • was there with my mum aged 81. she just died and this will play at mum's funeral. Emmylou has the voice of an angel, yes. and i and my beloved mum thank her. is this recording on a cd?

  • There's no official DVD or CD of Emmy @ Cambridge FF 2006.

If it's of special significance, can rip and and email you source quality stereo mp3 audio of the bits broadcast.

Commiserations on the loss of your mother.

  • thanks. i am just so glad she was able to see Emmylou live. had to choose a song for the funeral today. didn't have this. mum loved all the songs. any recommendations?

  • Ditto .. in 54 years!

  • Emmylou is fabulous to look at and to listen to. I believe she herself wrote Red Dirt Girl.

  • I'm 64 and could live another 64 years and would never hear another artist as beautiful as Emmylou. Been listening to her for 35 years and she only gets better. Truly, she is a gift from God.

  • We SO need an official DVD of this show!

  • Gorrrrrgeous! :)

  • No embedding? Thanks for not really sharing.

  • Emmylou is, as always AMAZING! Thanks for posting this.

  • Stunning. Compelling. Emmylou = peerless. She's my hero. I will see her in concert next month. yay! Awesome live footage here, thanks!
