I really love the way he doesn't refer to himself in this song... as in he doesn't say "I" or "Me", it really gives the impression of him being an isolated observer. Which in essence, he really seemed to be. Beautiful...
Does anyone else hear the anxiety in the background guitar when he plays, not just this piece, maybe it's just me. I love his music and his voice. It's calming but I'm hearing something in the guitar similar to nervousness.
Am I the only one or do others also start to weep when they hear this? It just rips me apart, so true and so tragic...but nonetheless beautiful sadness.
Well of course you are not the only one. It's a totally devastating piece of music. To me it is like a double edged sword. It makes me feel sad when I hear it but because it is such a well crafted song I want to hear it again even though I know the effect it isgoing to have on me.
Otro de esos Artistas injustamente semiolvidados... Una melancolía que sólo se puede explicar desde su manera de sentir, y su enfermedad, y su vida, y el final del día, cuando está hecho.
This song was heavily inspired by Donovan's "Hampstead Incident." Same chord progression and style of guitar picking, and even a slightly similar vocal delivery. According to Trevor Dann's biography, Nick Drake was in Paris when Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" album was released in early 1967 which is how he managed to procure a copy (the lp wasn't released in the UK at the time for various legal reasons). This tune probably demonstrates the extreme influence of that album more than any of his others.

wow Theresa!! this is so so so lovely!!! i have to admit i don't know who this guy is! gosh...but i think this video is sooo beautiful! and i do LOVE this song a LOT!! thanks for this!! and i know this was made with a lot of love Theresa! you are such a great video maker!!!! keep up the touching videos =) please tell me about him someday!
I would like to say you did a very professional job (and you did) but this sounds cold, so I would rather say it is quite lovely. Good pictures, some I have not seen before, good job zooming in on the pictures (I used to be a cameraman). I have his box set Fruit Tree but I missed this song so thanks again. Nick Drake makes (or allows) me to cry. I am a guy but I never apologize for crying.
this is great!

The guitar is phenomenal. Drake's vocals are good, still not smokey enough.

This song is just utterly sublime: philosophical, yet conveying all the beauty of an autumn afternoon. Thanks for posting.

Nick Drake died way too young. He was insightful, as well as talented.

Nick Drake is calm and easy?? Ha ha. No piece of real music is sedative.
dancing0being 1 year ago
@savetibet17 the sound comes from his off tuning of the guitar. creates "bunch" chords

Not weep but shivers up and down my spine!! Beauty know no bounds with Nicks music!
Discovery comes too late for some music!! But it inspires and propels me to try and showcase or highlight the talent that was and is Nick Drake!
I feel your sentiment!
