Christian Apel (christian.apel(at)hotmail.fr) pastor of à Reformed Church in Bayonne (France)
@ChristChurchTV You don't know me, so don't make assumptions about me either. A lifetimes exposure to Christianity, a Bachelors in Theology and a Masters in Christian Doctrine means that I am in fact well pretty well versed with how the church works. The point I am making is that the church is hugely wealthy, with buildings full of silver chalices, artworks and fine robes for the clergy, while people are still freezing to death on the streets. Perhaps Matthew 19:21-24 will illustrate my point.
@ngowerjo Hi there, I certainly wasn't intending to make any assumptions about you. I apologise for any offence caused. Yes, there's a lot of wealth out there, and some church buildings are very ornate, I agree - but plenty are not. However, I still feel that your comment about my friend who made this video is unfair. He has had a fantastic ministry amongst the poor and needy.
Wait, the bible says that the Messiah will come from Davis bloodline and that Joseph was an ancestor of David. However, Joseph wasn't the father of Jesus.
It would only make sense if Mary was an ancestor of David instead, as she's the only blood relative of Jesus.
I think this is fantastic - so ridiculously fed up with all these evangelical atheists - let people have their beliefs - you don't have to agree with it!
The whole story is a load of nonsense. At the time of Jesus' birth, there was no census, and even if there were, no Roman census in the history of the Empire required you to travel back to your home town to be counted.
Can't you people indoctrinate the vulnerable and the young in the usual way? - 'hip-hop' excellent call, misogynistic money-orientated preaching... i can see why you chose it, whats next i wonder planking-wanking-tweeting vicars?
Christians should be barred from using technology developed by science, which you then use against rational people to promote your retrogressive doctrines.
You should NOT be inserting this into a public arena, keep it on 'Christs-tube' or whatever you people use.
@ChristChurchTV who am i? an ex-Christian... years of service with an 'Evangelical' church, i know how you work, what you do and for why... I've taught doctrine at dozens of 'Alpha' courses, but no more...
Next time you want to pump this type of thing into the public domain be honest...
Dress up like the Egyptian SON *cough* sorry SUN god 'AMEN-RA' and start asking for money, I'll say AMEN to that!
@pcvideogamer Gavin is being honest so I don't know what you're suggesting when you say, "be honest". He was well received on the Chris Evans show this morning, and will be on radio 4 tomorrow and ITV Day break at the weekend. It would seem that the public arena is asking for Gavin to talk about the video, why he made it, and what motivates him. So I don't understand why you think this shouldn't be in the public arena? ITN News organised the competition. Gavin entered. People voted. He won.
@ChristChurchTV It's 'Christmas' time and i bet most of the 'people' you refer to are part of the Christian religion... who may have voted in favor of this video, hardly surprising it won, so it's the time of year for this kinda thing and i suppose on the surface it's a bit of fun, i know Christianity today has to employ new and ingenious methods to promote the 'word' and with a hope of introducing people to your faith.
So in that spirit i forgive you :) and have a good time.
@pcvideogamer Many thanks for your reply which is much appreciated. Yes, probably a high proportion of voters were Christians (I guess) - but then it seems from the comments that a number of agnostics, humanists and polite atheists seem to have appreciated and voted for the video too. For some reason it was by far the most viewed video too.
I hope you also have a peaceful time over the next week :-)
@pcvideogamer Surely given it was Nativity Factor Jesus and his good news for all men is going to be featured?
I don't know how long you were involved with a Church congregation, but if you knew other people in the wider Church (body of Christ), or even just people in your own congregation, then sure you must appreciate that Christians are different, so saying "i know how you work, what you do and for why" seems a tad unfair.
I hope u are well and am sorry for any negative past experiences
@ChristopherHeward Thank you for your comment, i was being unfair, your right to point this out of course, my own past experience(s) with an evangelical-church affected me negatively, I've realized now in my unique position as an 'ex' follower I'm still imbued with a love and compassion which is found in most of us, sometimes we forget we have it and in the 'mirror' or religion i see myself as a caring human wanting the same thing as everyone else... love.
I think this is great, it's good hearted, lighthearted and pretty entertaining. I would like to say to all the atheist crusaders out there that if you take the true, basic and original Christian message at face value, and if you take the Big Guy in the Sky out of the equation, we're talking about modern humanism. Treat others as you would like to be treated and try to live a good and generous life. Now what's wrong with that? Peace out EVERYONE!!!
@reiko082 I agree it's ironic.. But to adhere to any doctrine that excludes another point of view and to then go on to say that that point of view is dangerous and deluded (qv. Richard Dawkins) smacks to me of some kind of 'crusade'. The irony didn't escape me when I made the post, it was intentional. Don't you you think that atheism can become as suffocating and damaging as religion? If not, maybe you should take a look at the Soviet Union, atheists all? as I said peace out EVERYONE!!
@saddlehome Dawkins doesn't "exclude" anyone's point of view. He is correct to label religion as dangerous and deluded, considering it's previous and current uses and lack of any factual evidence whatsoever. As an agnostic, why should religion affect my life in society? It shouldn't, but it does. The difference between Christian crusades / religious suffocation and the Soviet Union is that religion is the central objective of one, whereas lack of religion is simply a characteristic of the other.
It's pretty sad that these days people forgot everything good about religion. People tend to intellectualize religion too much. They interpret Bible literally and they just keep thinking about : "Adam and Eve's kids were brothers and sisters, how did they reproduce?", or something like that..
Bible stories are just metaphors, they just think they're too smart to believe in Bible, I just think they're too stupid to see it's real meaning
It's brilliant obviously, and interesting to see how the church is delivering its message in modern terms, it's just a shame that the "message" itself is a load of rubbish. I assume that the vicar will be opening the doors of his expensive and well heated church to any member of the homeless community who needs somewhere to sleep this Christmas, in the true spirit of Christian selflessness.
Oh really, he's not, just like every other church in the country? How strange and slightly hypocritical.
@ngowerjo Please don't make assumptions about my friend Gavin. You don't know him. Plenty of local churches run excellent work amongst the homeless, but I guess you are not aware of any of that?
I have used this video twice this week with over 1000 children and over 500 adults at school carol concerts held at Christ Church Billericay. There was spontaneous applause on both occasions, with so many people saying they loved it. Another colleague of mine in the town also used the video with over 1000 children aged 11 to 16 at carol concerts. They also loved it
@ChristChurchTV Thats my point exactly, its a revamped way of getting children to beleive in god and your doing at the masses, by going to schools, why not go to pubs, clubs or even football matches and try and convert and leave our children alone !!! We tell them enough lies already, father xmas, tooth fairy etc, lets not keep breaking their hearts when they older, by revealing none of it is true lets remove religion of the myth list
@TheBadabiing - sorry but you are wrong. The schools came to us, they came to the church, with their parents, willingly. Everyone was allowed to opt out if they wished. So why are you suggesting we need to leave children alone? Please kindly explain.
@ChristChurchTV Sure, children trust their parents and we make the decisions for them, when when it comes to religion, we should not force it upon them and let them decide their sefls. We should teach evolution aswell and religion and then they can make up their own minds of they wish to to attend churches etc, not just because their parents do and decide they should.
@TheBadabiing I agree absolutely children and adults must be allowed to make up their own minds. I always present things on these occasions by saying this is what I believe, and everyone, parents included are happy with that. However, you said we should leave children alone. If they are left alone does that not mean they won't have different worldviews presented in order to allow them to make their own free choice?
@ChristChurchTV let them make their own decision on the evidence put upon them. Just dont beleive coz ya mum and dad do. If we gave them the choices then id be very happy, but we dont, we expect our children to beleive, though we dont really know why we beleive. If we were to teach religion and evolution side by side then religion would die, as id like to think we are intelligent and not gullable the evidence is all around & not one piece can be linked to god....
@TheBadabiing You do realise that evolution is pretty much accepted by all mainstream Christian churches? Perhaps it would be good to find out about the 'normal' side of Christianity rather than relying on a Dawkins-skewed view that has us all as wild-eyed, 6-day creationist, biblical literalist, Westboro Baptist metalists. Trust me, you might find that most of us are really quite pleasant and won't try to brainwash you or extort money from you!!
@bugtheugly I dont rely on any view, i judge on the evidence. Find me a religion thats 70 billion years old and then i may beleive there is such a being or even where hell or heaven. Hang on is Israel hell ? cause it sure seems that way, the most holy place on the planet at WAR !!!! Religion has killed more people that it has helped, FACT !! and why so many sides of Christianity ? and so many dif religions 21 to be exact, when there only one creator, id rather have a box of chocs
@TheBadabiing Oh, and we *do* teach evolution and religion side-by-side, at least in UK schools. If anything, from my experience, we teach science far more than we do religion (not that I think that the two are in any way mutually-exclusive).
@bugtheugly I live in the uk and yes Science is taught but only some aspects of evolution (A myth),, evolution is not part of the national curriculum, but R.E is (For now) Though there is evidence of evolution that would blow religion apart, including a 1.6million year old skull in the national history museum, which the church of england have so far prevented being out on display for the public. Good news Richard Dawkins is currently pushing for evolution to be added to the N/c.
@TheBadabiing wow, so you're in favour of removing thought or opinion you don't agree with, is that it? I think that type of ideology has a name, and I think it is a very dangerous way to proceed. Just because I don't agree with you, I would never suggest you should be silenced. I do, however, agree, that we should not tell lies to our children.
Firstly this aint no real beat boxing , just a bloody racket, 2ndly this has only been done to dry and keep up with modern times. There is less believers and the churches are struggling, so here a new way to try and get people to beleive.
@phoenixjadyen There is a lot less, and where i live people are being discriminated for beleiving in different religion, when christian was law of the land when i was born, now its a minority here, even nativity plays have been banned in my daughters school, simply because other religions are deeemed more powerful, i walk around with my opens open and am not easily influenced.
Or maybe your daughter's school has decided it is a secular institution and religion is a private matter is none of their business beyond a minor academic subject. Looks like your is being taught by sensible grown-ups. Be grateful.
Can't get enough of this video. TyTe is one of the most creative and entertaining people I can think of. He definitely deserved to win, and this video absolutely deserves the publicity it's getting.
Nooooooo! I haven't cringed so hard from embarassment in years. This is so painful to watch! It's like having your parents doing a rap at your 18th birthday
@ChristChurchTV Loved it for what reasons ? Coz he apparently beat boxes , yeh they liked it, coz its a mockery of religion. Otherwise they liked it coz they fully understand the story ? without actual evidence, just a book which has been adapted many times to suit the generations , you may aswell just shown them lion witch and the wardrobe, at least they know then its just a fairy tale.
@km123abc it seems that way I know and it stays that way as long as our hearts are closed, but it isn't, really! Ever seen one of those images that looks like nothing but when you gaze at it long enough with an open mind as to what you might see, an incredible 3d image appears? Well, this "fairytale" is just like that - honestly - when the truth reveals itself, by you being open, then you're filled with something absolutely amazing & you totally know that this "farytale" is for real!
@Fartssmellgood i'm sorry you fall asleep... But maybe you should try to figure out why there are still so many people telling this story after 2000 years. I wonder if someone would make a clip about you or me in 2000 years from now. So you better wake up and try to answer that question, because, honestly, there must be something about him. You know, some people sleep during lecture in campus... they will miss something.... if it's not now, it will be later during exames. Well, the best 2u
@MrPvdb Why many people are telling this story ?? Reason is because lots of people dont think for theirself & simply follow religion becoz there parents do. As you point out, religion is 2000 yrs old & many have been brainwashed since then & are gullable to beleive in such myth. How about what happend before the birth of jesus. Prior we had dinosaurs 60 million yrs before & the planet is estimated to be 70 billion yrs old, Threre is a lot more evidence for evolution than god. Rip Darwin
@TheBadabiing - Yes, RIP Darwin ...but have you considered the fact that DARWIN believed in God. Yes, it's true. Charles Darwin believed in God. Check out the facts.
@ChristChurchTV Yes when he was a kid, he then carrired his experiments & research and concluded there was no god, hence the origin of species he wrote, you dont put this together if you beleive in god. You should check out the facts if you have doubt
@TheBadabiing As a child he was brought up a Christian, yes. However, he never said he had stopped believing in God. He continued to believe that God was the ultimate Law giver, and the First Cause, and thus said he could be thought of as a Theist - although it is also true he sometimes called himself an agnostic - but never an atheist.
@ChristChurchTV He never said, as at that time, it would have been deeply frowned upon and would have caused allsorts of problems, especially as 99% at that period beleived in god, so he would of looked like a nutter if he spoke out about his true feelings, hence why he done his research on the quiet.
@TheBadabiing I would like to politely suggest that you are being unfair to Darwin. He was always ready to say what he believed in and what he didn't. Are you really suggesting that Darwin called himself a THEIST, and sometimes an AGNOSTIC rather than an atheist because he thought people would call him a nutter? That simply doesn't add up with what he said, what he wrote, and what his family said about him.
@MrPvdb I'm sure if I had one of the wealthiest and most corrupt organisations in the entire world (the Catholic Church) publicising my story, it'd still be heard in 2000 years time.
Perfect mix of the real nativity story, humour and revererence. Love this - sent it around the world, all my friends love it - regardless of their beliefs. Brilliant Gavin, inspiring!! xx
dude, this rocks.

Perhaps it would be good to find out about the 'normal' side of Christianity rather than relying on a Dawkins-skewed view that has us all as wild-eyed, 6-day creationist, biblical literalist, Westboro Baptist metalists. Trust me, you might find that most of us are really quite pleasant and won't try to brainwash you or extort money from you!!
bugtheugly 2 months ago
@bugtheugly I dont rely on any view, i judge on the evidence. Find me a religion thats 70 billion years old and then i may beleive there is such a being or even where hell or heaven. Hang on is Israel hell ? cause it sure seems that way, the most holy place on the planet at WAR !!!! Religion has killed more people that it has helped, FACT !! and why so many sides of Christianity ? and so many dif religions 21 to be exact, when there only one creator, id rather have a box of chocs
TheBadabiing 2 months ago
@TheBadabiing Oh, and we *do* teach evolution and religion side-by-side, at least in UK schools. If anything, from my experience, we teach science far more than we do religion (not that I think that the two are in any way mutually-exclusive).
bugtheugly 2 months ago
@bugtheugly I live in the uk and yes Science is taught but only some aspects of evolution (A myth),, evolution is not part of the national curriculum, but R.E is (For now) Though there is evidence of evolution that would blow religion apart, including a 1.6million year old skull in the national history museum, which the church of england have so far prevented being out on display for the public. Good news Richard Dawkins is currently pushing for evolution to be added to the N/c.
TheBadabiing 2 months ago
@TheBadabiing wow, so you're in favour of removing thought or opinion you don't agree with, is that it? I think that type of ideology has a name, and I think it is a very dangerous way to proceed. Just because I don't agree with you, I would never suggest you should be silenced. I do, however, agree, that we should not tell lies to our children.

Firstly this aint no real beat boxing , just a bloody racket, 2ndly this has only been done to dry and keep up with modern times. There is less believers and the churches are struggling, so here a new way to try and get people to beleive.
TheBadabiing 2 months ago 9
@TheBadabiing There are far more believers in Christ than you may WANT to believe.
phoenixjadyen 2 months ago
@phoenixjadyen There is a lot less, and where i live people are being discriminated for beleiving in different religion, when christian was law of the land when i was born, now its a minority here, even nativity plays have been banned in my daughters school, simply because other religions are deeemed more powerful, i walk around with my opens open and am not easily influenced.
TheBadabiing 2 months ago 12
@TheBadabiing
Or maybe your daughter's school has decided it is a secular institution and religion is a private matter is none of their business beyond a minor academic subject. Looks like your is being taught by sensible grown-ups. Be grateful.

@TheSquabbish That's a shame, because several hundred children and teenagers loved it when they watched it with me this week.
ChristChurchTV 2 months ago

You look like a cool enough guy and this is a nice try, but this story still makes me fall asleep in two seconds..
Fartssmellgood 2 months ago
@Fartssmellgood i'm sorry you fall asleep... But maybe you should try to figure out why there are still so many people telling this story after 2000 years. I wonder if someone would make a clip about you or me in 2000 years from now. So you better wake up and try to answer that question, because, honestly, there must be something about him. You know, some people sleep during lecture in campus... they will miss something.... if it's not now, it will be later during exames. Well, the best 2u

What about the other Gods out there? In what way would that prove that the christian version is the one truth and not one of the others?
endasil 2 months ago
@MrPvdb Why many people are telling this story ?? Reason is because lots of people dont think for theirself & simply follow religion becoz there parents do. As you point out, religion is 2000 yrs old & many have been brainwashed since then & are gullable to beleive in such myth. How about what happend before the birth of jesus. Prior we had dinosaurs 60 million yrs before & the planet is estimated to be 70 billion yrs old, Threre is a lot more evidence for evolution than god. Rip Darwin
TheBadabiing 2 months ago 7
@TheBadabiing - Yes, RIP Darwin ...but have you considered the fact that DARWIN believed in God. Yes, it's true. Charles Darwin believed in God. Check out the facts.
ChristChurchTV 2 months ago
@ChristChurchTV Yes when he was a kid, he then carrired his experiments & research and concluded there was no god, hence the origin of species he wrote, you dont put this together if you beleive in god. You should check out the facts if you have doubt
TheBadabiing 2 months ago
@TheBadabiing As a child he was brought up a Christian, yes. However, he never said he had stopped believing in God. He continued to believe that God was the ultimate Law giver, and the First Cause, and thus said he could be thought of as a Theist - although it is also true he sometimes called himself an agnostic - but never an atheist.
ChristChurchTV 2 months ago
@ChristChurchTV He never said, as at that time, it would have been deeply frowned upon and would have caused allsorts of problems, especially as 99% at that period beleived in god, so he would of looked like a nutter if he spoke out about his true feelings, hence why he done his research on the quiet.
TheBadabiing 2 months ago
@TheBadabiing I would like to politely suggest that you are being unfair to Darwin. He was always ready to say what he believed in and what he didn't. Are you really suggesting that Darwin called himself a THEIST, and sometimes an AGNOSTIC rather than an atheist because he thought people would call him a nutter? That simply doesn't add up with what he said, what he wrote, and what his family said about him.
ChristChurchTV 2 months ago
@MrPvdb I'm sure if I had one of the wealthiest and most corrupt organisations in the entire world (the Catholic Church) publicising my story, it'd still be heard in 2000 years time.
