Therefore, you would need to refill the water bottle at least once, not sure how messy that would be. also you're giving up water space for the gel container. bottom line, 2 gels = about 2 hours of running with one water stop for a refill - makes more sense to carry your gels in their own container or make use of a gel flask and multiwater bottle carrier for long runs or ultras.
That seems like a good way to store your energy gels for cycling and triathlon. I would hate for the gel to accidentally leak. I wonder where you can buy these...
@jomike its an energy gel, comes is a packet, its mainly composed of electrolytes and some minerals, some packs contain caffeine. check out 'gu energy gels' for more info.

I prefer shake gel and water in the same bottle. The taste be good and more fast to drink and intake a gel, especially on triathlon's races.
