I can hear the people voice that calling, screaming and warning for evacuation to higher place, and the radio announcement too. But still there are some people are staying at seaside i can see. Probably they are taking care of their boat, completely ignored the warnings. This is sad but they may be swept away by Tsunami. The people followed the direction and evacuated earlier were survived. we must remember this.

its amazing to me how this dog knows. in the indonesian tsunami in 04 there were scuba divers who didnt know of the tsunami and said there were no fish to be scene 30 minutes before the tsunami hit. being in a boat would be one of the safest places to be. Not only do you save your boat by taking it out into deeper water, but a wave only forms when the energy flows over shallow water.

@hogo1 Not necessarily true. Watch "Surviving the Tsunami" on youtube. It explains why that wasn't the case with this Tsunami. The shift in the tectonic plates and thick sediment on the ocean floor created a very steep tidal wave at the epicenter of the earthquake.

I am thankful to person who videotaped this event. Some tips for next time or for others to read this. It would have been better if camera moved much much less and not allways on max zoom. I understand emotional distress after tsunami hit but jumping between random points at max zoom, stopping for less than a second at objects makes it very difficult to understand what is going on. Camera can't record 360. And really, what happened to these guys in the harbour? I hope they managed to get away.

The problem was , They didn't get the shaking we got further south so they didnt realize the severity of the situation They had moderate shaking which can hear throughout the first of the video , But no structural damage , So they could NOT have known what was coming .

Where I live the Ground was moving in Waves and roofs were Coming apart walls cracking , and streets breaking apart , They simply didn't know

It's very strange - when the big wave comes ashore at 24 minutes, destroying everything, it's terrifying. Yet just a short time later, at 28 minutes, the floating debris has been washed inland and everything else is submerged underwater so you can't see the damage. That's when the water is deep and no longer moving fast, and it looks almost calm and peaceful. Just a few buildings can be seen above the smooth surface. It almost seems natural, just for that very short time.
