  • Paddle-shift gearbox in 1990!

  • Un verdadero grande!!! Humille maestro!!

  • So different from Sennas driving. He is more consistent on the throttle, not bumping it like Senna, this is how modern F1 drivers do. Senna was driving wheels of the car on one lap with pure courage and fearless determination but I like prosts driving style better. Somehow less erretic and more consistent

  • @beqa16v You can't really compare driving styles like that. The circuits are different, the cars are different, the tires are differet and the drivers are alot different.. Everything is different

  • @CitizenZon3 There is another video here of Senna's qualifying lap on the same track on the same day. I was just doing comparisons of them taking same corners

  • @beqa16v oki what did you find out

  • @CitizenZon3 prost is more consistent on the throttle an is not tapping it like senna which i think is good on N/A cars but Senna seems to be that tiny bit braver and usually takes more kerb when attacking corners, i think in this particular qualifying session it was decisive together with the Honda power

  • When did they start using the padded shifters? Also that turn right before the final hairpin-- you know the one where Martin Donnelly had his terrifying crash-- looks very tricky.

  • and the last race in jerez

  • the first formula one car with 7 gears

  • This is truly the sound of an engine f-1. The current do not compare to this!

  • The further back you go the better these f1 cars sound, oh my god

  • This is just surreal through the corners... awazing!

    Damn! :o :|

  • The noise....THE NOISE!!!!!!!!! :)

  • FUCKING INSANE!

    ...but Senna was better =P

  • this formula one car, where are gearbox????

  • @sergioISB What exactly do you mean - how the driver selects the gears? The Ferrari 641 had a semi-automatic 7 speed gearbox. The gear selection itself worked via paddles behind the steering wheel, very much like today.

  • He backs off in places where Ayrton didnt, course I dont know if this was a qualifying lap, prolly not

  • For the first time in my life, I agree with Bernie Ecclestone. What would the F-1 without the sound of engines? And at the time of the V12 and V10 was much better ...

  • that's one of my favorite songs on youtube

  • One word dangeresly exiting

  • Bring back F1... it boring now

  • I wonder how the balls of this drivers found place in a f1 car, because they must have been enormous. :-)

  • MOZART dreamed all his life for this Symphony !

  • F1 should be v12s not v8!

  • soooo fast

  • now thats quick well done

  • perfect footwork

  • I'm a Senna fan and here whe can see why Senna missed Alain. Just beautiful!

    Go professor!

  • @paleyellowrainbow2 There's something interesting here: Prost lost 84 title by half a point, 88 by 3 points, 90 by 6 points, 83 by 2 points and 81 by 7 points. That is to say, even with the old point system, from a gap between 0.5 points up to 7 points He lost 5 Championships. In fact, He was TOO CLOSE to be an impressive 9 times World Champion recordman...... He was TRULY GREAT, no discussion about it.......

  • pls find senna in jerez onboard video... spot the difference...

  • @andrebgood

    yes, Prost's lap is better

  • That year (1990), this Ferrari hit several times 5 G's in the fast corners. Today it's 3.8, wich gives you an idea of what the pilots had to fight with. And of course no traction control to help you outcornering. So comparisons with today's joystick driven cars is hopeless. Prost and Senna were really great.

  • @hoplageis57

firslty, how do u know that cars achieved 5G's? Secondly, the today's cars achieve more than 5 G's even with all the aero restrictions. If they had these 1990 regulations now, the cars would achieve 8 or more G's.

Go to formula1.com and watch Hamilton's lap in Silverstone. He reachs 5 G's(at least) in 4 cornes and 4.7 and 4.5 in other two.

  • @arturcraft2 the only diff now is the fact that they have something to rest there head on if they wish .

and the safety . you were very ballsy i think to drive formula cars in the early ninety's and before .........

  • come strillavano i motori di una volta.....

  • Astonishing power from that car, this is a V12 engine right?

  • @ChrissCairns Yes it's v12

  • @MadJack2007 what do you know shorty? Chicks with dicks are not allowed to comment on motorsport video's, go to the tranny section you baboon....Tee Hee

  • Makes you believe in F1 again...such a shame it's not like this anymore...:(

  • It's still scary to see how little run-off there is in turns 5 and 15, while they're going flat out. Jerez is one of my favorite tracks though.

  • That's how extreme F1 racing is, a fighter jet unleashed, but on wheels.

  • If we look at the scenery ( hills, roads, side views, objects, etc.. ) is seems like a jet fighter making maneuvres while flying on a low altitude..

That's how F1 racing is, a fighter jet in wheels.

  • That was not the pole-position lap but an amazing qualifying one anyway. Prost won that race, the 44th of his career keeping alive his chances to win the drivers´ championship for Ferrari.

Berger finished the 1989 championship behind Mansell driving the same car, but when the austrian moved to Mclaren (in 1990) finished the championship ahead the englishman. The MP4/5B was better than the F641, so it was almost impossible for Prost to win the 1990 championship.

  • Berger only finished behind Mansell because the 640 had appalling reliability. I think Berger only finished 3 races. The Ferrari was slightly quicker than the McLaren. Ron Dennis said the only reason they won that year was because of Senna's skill. He was so grateful for Senna that he gifted him one of the MP4/5Bs.

  • Berger driving for Ferrari for the 3rd year, finished behind Mansell driving the same car for the 1st time. But when the austrian drove the MP4/5B finished the championship ahead the englishman (who was driving a F641). So the MP4/5B was clearly better than the F641 and Prost had no chance to be champion in 1990, unless the frenchman was as good as Michael Schumacher.

No doubt Senna´s skill was superb and crucial to win the Drivers WC but he didn´t that with the Lotus 98T or the 99T.

  • But Berger only finished behind Mansell in '89 because he only finished 3 races! Mansell finished twice as many races as Berger. So that makes your point about Berger beating Mansell irrelevant. The MP4/5B was only quicker in qualifying; during the races, the Ferraris would usually be much faster than the McLarens. So it was only down to Senna (and Mansell's bad luck) that McLaren won both Championships that year. Remember that Ferrari only finished 3 points behind McLaren in the WCC.

  • If Berger finished less GPs than Mansell in 1989, that´s because the austrian was worse than the englishman. But Berger with a better car (the MP4/5B) finished ahead Mansell. And you´re wrong again: in 1990 Mclaren scored 121p while Ferrari only scored 110p. The F641´s realiability and acceleration were worse than the MP4/5B´s; the semi-auto gearbox didn´t make by itself the F641 better than the MP4/5B. If Prost drove the MP4/5B and Senna the F641, the frenchman would be champion in 1990.

  • mansell finished behind berger in 1990 because ferrari could only make one solely reliable car...

the ferrari was still quicker than the mclaren in 1990 (at least in race trim)...

  • The steering wheel is round and engine V12. I can't believe how fucked up modern F1 is compared to 50's-early 90's...

  • 1:18. Wow! That takes some balls...

  • Especially considering what happened to Martin Donnelly that weekend.

  • oh my God, that's amazing! :)

  • Fantástic lap. Congratulations Prost.

  • The V12 sounds amazing. I remember going to GP's as a kid and you knew when the Ferrari was coming before you could see it.

Watching that lap just makes it all the more incredible.

  • 641/2 was a fantastic car with absolutely magical engine sound. Prost had a good championship campain that year and could win it but once again senna shamefully ended it at suzuka

  • @F1Xvitaaa You remember 1989? Another shameful end...

  • @thylegion You seem like the source of all knowledge, you make it clear that you are indeed a very smart person, the way you formulate yourself. It's a fact that Senna drove into Prost deliberate in 1990, Senna admitted doing so.

  • @thylegion @thylegion Nice reference about Denmark there. It's very relevant that i come from Denmark, isn't it. Let me get your opinion on Schumacher, so i can decide if this is gonna be a useless conversation, or this actully will be interesting. And drop that smiley at the end.

  • @thylegion So because i wasn't swearing you think i'm dishonoring you, piece of shit. And you think, i have a problem, since i normally ignore retards like you. And Senna is holy cause he's dead, and he was so good, well let me tell you something, Senna drove his championship years with full ABS traction control and all that kind of stuff, so get real calling me a MSC fanboy. Now im not a Know-It-All wannabe since this is a fucking opinion.

  • @CitizenZon3 you're saying that for example MP4/4 had ABS, TC and "all that kind of stuff"? WOW...

  • de niño era y seguira siendo mi idolo al volante grande Prost !!!

  • I'm a Senna fan, but I admire The Professor as a GIANT of a driver, one of the very Best between the Best. His ultra-quick and raw speed with that "easy" driving style, let's say "a relaxed driving", smoother than anybody else, almost in a perfect combination between the car and himself, is simply mind-blowing for me. I asked myself many times, if We will be able to witness another driver with that rare skill "smooth and fast like hell". From a Senna fan: Merci Alain, you command utmost respect!

  • ferrari 641/2....the most beautiful and great F1 ferrari even built

  • just the ferrari 641.

  • @cescoluca88 And what Alain famously described as like a "Truck to drive"

  • @thrillathakilla the truck was the 1991 car, the 643, used in second part of 1991 after the 642 (another truck)....those cars were a totally wrong evolution of 641, cause no balance of weights....in 1991 were 3 possibilities to join championship; the old 641 with 91's updates, that was still competitive with very good times on lap, and the 642 and 643,....maranello chosed last 2 possibilities, and mclaren and williams said "bye bye..."

  • What a sound!!!!!

    Amazing

  • Sweet sound!
