The Cuban communist Army is nothing. A bunch of soldiers forced to served because they are conscripts. They make only $7 a months during their whole entire three years conscription. However their Generals live like kings. Their equipment dare back from the 1960's. Their Airforce is based on obsolete Mig-21 with a few Mig-29 version UM and UB very obsolete from the 1970's. Now they have tried to improve their BTR installing T-54 guns. There is nothing to fear about that obsolete military!
The South African G-5 Artillery pieces were much advance than the obsolete Soviet M-46 the Angolan troops and Cubans were using.The Soviet T-55,were too heavy for the terrain of that particular area of operations and were easy prey for the SA.Ratel 90 and Centurion tanks which 105mm main gun was a real problems to the Communists troops.

Well theres also different sectors, Those who work in the Tourist economy with Convertible Pesos make a lot more which almost in and of itself makes it look like there trying to make it seem better. But Medical and Educational Systems there are wonderful (despite a lack of MRI machines) theres enough food. If the U.S. opened up to cuba the cuban Economy would go through the roof, which considering they already have the Highest HDI in latin America could be interesting.

They are very short on modern scanning equipment but according to the World Health Organization (and Newsweek) thier system is very similar to that of the U.S. in effectiveness (U.S. ranked 37, Cuba 39) I'm not trying to say your not telling the truth but when did you go to cuba most recently and where in?

Illegal embargo?WOW,if there was an embrgo why are Castro's sons living like kings.They go on vacation to Spain,a thing cubans can not do.Cuban generals live like kings,they own their own cars,they live in modern houses and enjoy all the privileges denied to regular cubans,they have their own social clubs.Where is the embargo,only in Castro's pockets.

In all Latin America, under Capitalism and so called democracy, the people arent living better than cuban people - look Haiti. @marck0938 It wasnt true communism, Stalin was only another czar. I agree with about Castro be a dictator, he is stalinist. We never chose to be ruled by dictators, but USA helped and supported them, just like Saddam Hussein and Suharto - they coudnt never became so powerfull without USA help. You american arent so democratic like you love to believe, before 60´s the afro-american couldnt even take the same bus; you want to chose who must rule another countries...
