  • very good review

  • hi,what software are you using?

  • @aeriesofia aperture

  • Can I use this lens with a d3100?

  • @LoveTheOcean0716 the tokina 12-24m f/4 version 2 will work but it must be version 2

  • @ROCKnROLL4NGEL Nikon doesn't make a 12-24 f2.8 Are you thinking about the Nikon 14-24 f2.8? This lens at Amazon cost $2000.00 The Nikon 12-24 f4 at Amazon cost $1225. The Tokina 12-24 f4 at Amazon cost $600. Your money to blow!

  • Can I use this on D5100?

  • @BIGBADALEXIS you will need the version 2 of the lens.

  • Good review, well done.

  • How would you view this lens along with the Tamron SP 10-24mm? I have the Tamron but was thinking of buying the Tokina.

  • @pjos111 the tokina is better, pretty much as good as the nikon 10-24mm.

  • @QQQQcon Thanks I know someone selling it for £230 :) I am going for it now. Yepheeeee

  • handheld rule : bump up iso even in daylight u can safely go up to 800iso. landscape: handheld: iso400-800 if not much light, tripod : lowest possible iso . f number : 11-16. avoid over 16. f11 is the sharpest. tripod!!!

  • Good review. thanks!

  • can i use this on a d90?

  • @VaSopheMoua yes you can

  • @QQQQcon thanks

  • Will this lens be good to go if I use a flash (SB900) for nightclub photography?

    Or should I get the 11-16 2.8?

  • @dOlsson91 That depends. On a nightclub the f2.8 would be very useful, but a SB900 can light up pretty much anything, so it depends on how you use the flash. If you use the flash for every photo, you could do with the f4, but the f2.8 would surely give you more flexibility.

  • Hi Connor is there a workaround for me not to crop my photos when printing 8X10? I always get to crop my photos everytime I get to printing shop. Thanks man...

  • @benedictsalvacion print it 8 x 12. dslrs do not match the 8 x 10 format.

  • gett better audio like a wireless mic that attaches to your shirt it will make your videos much better and interesting to watch

  • is this a good nightclub photography lens? (Nikon D7000)

I'm a bit worried about the low light with f4.0, but I would say that the flash compensates. Would appreciate a answer!

  • @dOlsson91 the tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 would be better for very low light

  • Hello Connor,

Thanks for you excellent review. I own this lens for some time now on my Canon 50D and I really like it. However what puzzles me is that you compare centre sharpness with sharpness in the corners (in the pebble) at F:4. If you focussed on the centre of the picture at F:4 the DOF is limited so ofcourse the corner sharpness (since it is closer to the camera) is lower and will increase at F:5,6 and F:8. or did you do somethin else?

  • @RickFransen1 everything in the pictures I take are the same distance so DOF should matter.

  • @RickFransen1 ....and by same distance I mean everything in the frame is in focus at infinity

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I will go with that. Im gonna keep my tokina. I know its an awesome lens. Thanks again. Your the best :)

  • Hi Connor, im thinking of getting Sigma 8-16 and sell my tokina 12-24. Do you think thats a good idea?

  • @jaoski2002 I wouldnt, sigma has never been nearly as good as tokina when it comes to wide angle.

  • my nikon 12-24 is f2.8 all the way through and is a pro piece of glass I sold my Tokina for 450.00 because I was so d in it

  • I already have that lens. And II just bought also the tokina 11-16. Do you think I wasted my money since I already have that 12-24 and I still bought the 11-16?

  • @jaoski2002 the only reason to have both is if you shoot both landscape and architecture or low light. I probably wouldnt have bought both.

  • Your the best!!!

  • hy i want to know does this lens need to multiply by 1.5x on D90?

  • @miemie123123 yes it does

  • I just want to thank you so much, because I bought the lens and it did everything you said it would do. And I got the Nikon D90 and samething happen. I would have like the D7000 but I still think it's too advanced for me still. Anyway I love your reviews, I have olny seen about 3 of them but now I trust your judgement with my eyes closed! I am your new BIG FAN! Hopefully someday I will take beautiful pictures like you! Thanks again, I hope we have you makeing videos for a long time.

  • Hi, I was wondering, would this Tokina lens fit into the body of a Nikon D60? I've been searching on wide lenses, and was wondering what is a good lens to buy but with limited money. Thanks

  • @joshuashuaable this lens will work on the d60 if you get the version 2 of the lens.

  • Ok I'm back with another question, I was at best buy this morning and took my tokina lens with me. I tryed it with a D3100 hoping to autofocus and nothing! You mentioned to get the D7000. To me is still a little pricy, but I will consider it If I can't find a camera that will autofucus with my wonderful lens. I know I'm asking alot of questions but I'm learning photography on my own with books, and youtube videos. So please Connor, tell me what camera will autofocus with my lens???

  • @msyuki29 the d90 or d7000 is the cheapest you can get that will auto focus with the tokina. If you wanted to auto focus on the d3100 or the d40 you needed to get the second version of the lens.

  • Hi Connor. I love how you respond to your comments that same day. So that is why I took the liberty to ask another question. I took your advice on the 12-24 tokina and bought it, I got a good deal on it on ebay. Anyway I didn't notice it dosen't auto focus with my Nikon d40. So for now I wish to rent a camera to work with this lens, hoping to buy one in soon. I want to get the best out of this lens. So my question is, which is the best camera and second best camera for this len. thanks.

  • @msyuki29 just use the nikon d7000

  • Awsome review. Thank you very much for posting. One question though, you mentioned if was for outdoors, what about wedding pictures? Like bridal parties and all? Do you recomend it for that? I am just starting to do weddings and I want to take shots of groups of people inside the church. Please Connor or anyone help me out! Thanks.

  • @msyuki29 yes you could, the tokina 11-16mm may be something to consider as well if you shoot low light.

  • what is the differencebetween the dx & dx2 model? do they have a differnce in sharpness?

  • @MrCioteks second model focuses on the d3100, d5000,d60 and other cameras without a built in auto focus motor

  • Very very good job you´ve done !!

    regards from germany

  • good review man. what software is that you are you using to magnify the photos? looks very cool and usefull!

  • @tag527i aperture 3

  • does it take sharp and crisp images?

  • hi conor, i apologise in case i've asked this Q before...I am now the proud owner of the tokina 12-24 II version and would like to know what the best filter holder would you recommend due to it being a ultra wide angle as i want to cut down on as much vignetting as poss i know i can post process but still would like as little as poss, also do not have the cash for the lee filters, i wish i did though, but was thinking of the cokin Z pro series, any thoughts please conor, or anyone if they know?

  • @atyl1972

you can get cokin z pro or p series grad ND kit (3 filter), if you want a UV filter just get B+W Filter.

  • @atyl1972 the cokin Z pro should be fine. I have never used it though

  • correct me if i'm wrong but for what i understand, you can use the 11-16 f/2.8 for landscapes and architecture.....but you'll problably get pictures with some distorsion due to the super wide-angle right?

that will be perfect if you want to create different perspective

    what do you think

    thanks again

  • @kebello10 distortion is not bad because of the short focal length of the 11-16mm

  • Thanks for the review, I'm thinking of buying one. One remark though, f/stop 4 doesn't really make sense, it's f/4, the f/stop is one particular aperture setting in the aperture range. Congrats on your Nikon body :)

  • @QQQQcon what's the best camera that i can get for a low price mainly to take landscape photos. I'm just starting photography and i don't feel like spending a lot of money.

It would be a huge help in my decision to know your opinion.

  • @penafrio the d3100 will do a great job

  • What is the best zoom wideangle lens choice for the D7000?

And, will you make a review of the version 2 of this lens??

  • @CCCREAM84 depends on what you like to shoot, for landscape this is best. version 2 is the same it is just compatible with nikons that have not auto focus motor in the body (d3100, d5000, ect)

  • @QQQQcon It will be used for landscape and arcitecture for the most :-) thanks for your help ;-)

  • It's a good lens, I use it for night photography and landscapes.

  • i was wondering if you know if this lens or if the nikon 3100 price will drop within the next couple months? please respond when you can thanks.

  • @need4speed2k53 I dont see why they would

  • @QQQQcon I dont know i was just wondering. Right now on amazon for both the camera and lens its about 1100 dollars. if it were to drop to just under a thousand id be happy haha. I wasnt sure if they had a new model that was coming out and would drop the prices on them. thanks for all the help with your camera reviews by the way.

  • would i need to get the version II for the nikon d7000?

  • @PurpleChowMein no both will work fine

  • is this lens auto-focus on a nikon d-3000

  • Is this lens auto-focus on nikon d-3000?

  • @kebello10 You have to get the version 2 of this lens

  • @QQQQcon can you manual focus with the d3000?

  • @NJskaterer yes

  • Is there any major differences between the tokina 12-24mm and the tokina 12-24mm II?

  • @Mrcurrant94 only that the second version is compatible with nikons like the d5000, d3100 and so on

  • one other thing connor if you will, what is a good filter to protect this lens and the size also please, have you had any experience of onestopdigital web store in japan? this is where i am going to get the both lens and camera from as they are significantly cheaper than anywhere els in the uk?

  • @atyl1972 UV filter is best, it is 77mm for this lens, I have had no experience with that place, if it is a lot cheaper or seems to good to be true, than it is a scam and you should not buy from there.

  • hi ahain, this is a very smart looking lens that looks well built to the viewer, my question is will this be a great lens for the nikon d7000 as a landscape keen photographer?

  • @atyl1972 yes

  • @QQQQcon ok fantastic, just watching this vid again to make sure that this is what i am going for, i was thinking about the sigma 10-20mm for the nikon but since seeing the great review you have given this and seeing your pics all my faiths in you man for sure, what is it though that makes you like nikon, me it's definitely the look and style of the nikon caompared to the canons, they are soooo boring to look at, but the nikons is definitley a looker of a dslr, what's the reason you go for nikon

  • Like your videos, does this lens auto focus on a nikon D5000? And what tokina wide angle lenses do AF in the D5000? Thanks. :)

  • @akotanan18 you have to use the version 2 tokina 12-24mm lens to autofocus

  • i am using the nikon d90 kit lens right now 18-105, anione know how big of a difference this would make as far as wide angle goes, would it be worth it to go from an 18 to 12?

  • @LebronMVP4LIFE the difference between 12mm and 18mm is huge 12mm is a lot wider. If you need a wider lens then this would be a good lens to consider.

  • @QQQQcon excellent dude, thanks. that is exactly what i wanted to hear :)

  • @QQQQcon whats your thoughts on the new tokina 16-28..is it worth it or should i just save some extra money and get the 14-24 or maybe the 16-35..thanks

  • @robertnikon I am sure it is a great lens, the nikon 16-35mm is ore useful for landscape because of the extra focal range but if you shoot low light it would be a great choice.

  • does anybody know if this lens is any good for infrared photography?

  • @andycanon1 itd be fine, lens you use doenst really matter i dont think. i take IR photos.

  • @LebronMVP4LIFE i was more thinking about problems with hot spots when using an IR filter.

  • @andycanon1 searched in google and found someone who took some IR pictures with the tokina 11-16 in the same series as the 12-24 and all the pictures looked good, no hotspots...but thats not considering other factors that could cause hotspots... in my personal opinion, i think it would work great for IR, but i've never tried with any of these lenses so i obviously i dont know for certain, guess you just have to hope you find someone who has ha.

  • @andycanon1 No its not any good for IR. go elsewhere for it.

  • Would this work on the d700 and the d300s? If not what would you recommend?

  • @lew1310 the tokina 12-24mm is a dx lens so it is good for the d300s not the d700

  • Sorry if it's irrelevant, but I'm planning on buying my first DSLR camera (a package deal). As you know, the equipment are expensive and buying this package deal will take pretty much all of what I've saved in money. I am wondering what is your opinion of UV filters or any filters used mainly for protection--is it really something to invest in? I don't live and probably won't visit "extreme" places (sand, water, etc), shooting mostly for general everyday life events. Lens hood, filter, or none?

  • @SchizoSynthFuck I use UV filter to protect the glass. I would suggest UV filter to anyone, better to pay for the filter than have to pay to replace the lens if you scratch it badly.

  • Quality wise, should I get this or the Nikon 10-24 for my D90 ?

  • @warrioryoyoyo quality is about the same. depends on whether you think you really need the 10mm

  • i like it when you says dramatic

  • WILL THIS WORK FOR NIKON D3000?

  • @JESSICA2010T you have to get version 2 for it to work on the d3000

  • i've been watching quite a few of your reviews and they're very good. what wide angle lens would you recommend for filmmaking with a canon 550d? ultimately i'm looking for sharpness, i don't want any vignetting but don't mind so much about flare. budget less than $600. would you recommend this lens? thanks

  • @wilIiamhawthorne the tokina 12-24mm is the only choice you have, the canon 10-22mm is the best choice but that lens costs a little over 700 dollars.

  • @QQQQcon cool, thanks for the reply. another question though: when you change the focus does the lens extend? i don't want to upset the weight distribution when it's on a steadicam

  • @wilIiamhawthorne no it doesnt, it stays the same length throughout the focal range

  • very nicely done! thanks!

  • very good review!!

  • How do I know if I NEED 10mm? What % of your shots would you say you shoot wider than 12mm (18mm FX equiv). I am torn between this lens, the Nikon 10-24 and the Sigma 10-20.

  • @agc1976 once you shoot enough you should know. If you find yourself constantly wanting to get wider then you know. I use 14mm on my fx camera a lot (the equivalent of a little less than 10mm for dx)

  • this will work on D5000?

  • @khoihq you have to get the Dx 2 version of the lens

  • whats the difference between tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF Pro DX II Lens and

12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF Pro DX Lens? the Pro Dx II is a bit more expensive than Pro DX...

  • @madzniburkle the DX 2 works with camera without a built in autofocus motor like the d60, d3100, d5000, ect.

  • @QQQQcon thank you so much for the reply. I have d90 which has built in autofocus motor. So it means I could get 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF Pro DX Lens.. Pls correct me if Im wrong. Im getting this lens next week. ^^

  • i use this lens with my d90 and i find the autofocus a bit slow. would an upgrade to a d300 provide a boost in the autofocus speed? (with the d300's supposedly superior body motor and AF system)

  • @MegapixelSix sightly but not a big difference.

  • @QQQQcon

    okay thanks :)

  • what kind of filters are on this lens?

  • @Alimannetje UV filters

  • what is the filter size?

  • @willcitoman97 77mm

  • Comment removed

  • so you took those photos with a d3x? would you say it's usable on an FX, or you just took those pics for demonstration purposes? If so, what F stops are recommended on an fx

  • @v3zah yes, just for testing purposes, no it is not a lens you can use for fx.

  • HI, I'm a new photo enthusiast and have been following your reviews. Just some clarification comparing your review with the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens. Based on both reviews of 12-24 f4 and 11-16 f2.8, the images are tack sharp at f8 on both. Why then we have to by a 12-24 when the 11-16 can also the job with an advantage of good low light capability? I have a stiff budget, what lens do you think is best between the 2?

    Thanks for the help....

  • @dokgold 12-24mm is a much more useful range for landscape photography than 11-16mm

  • Is this AF-S? Will it auto focus on the Nikon d3100???

  • I have Nikon D3000, which wide angle lens would you recommend to take interiors of houses for real estate photography? (Love your reviews)

  • @UncleMark22 tokina 11-16mm is the best for architecture.

  • @QQQQcon Thanks very much

  • Would you recommend that lens for D90? I already have Nikkor 18-200mm and prime 35mm.

  • @Vtold1978 definately

  • I can look it up, but do you know if they make the 11-16mm in AF-S?

  • what is the cost of this lens??

  • @lopezae33 about 400 dollars

  • @lopezae33

I recommend you to search on E-bay for this lens.

  • any future plans to max HD videos? btw, your videos are VERY educational! Thanks!

  • I finally found the video :/ yeah like I said I need a kens for both :) I'll look around thanks for these reviews, tokina's are amazingly made to say they have made like 5 lenses. Cheers

  • how do you focus for landscapes? do you focus on the middle ground?

  • @roger767 middle ground of the landscape

  • Five stars

  • great.

  • hey great review ive watched both of the reviews of the tokina lenses. Which would you get if you had to chose between them?? im looking at both and im sort of stuck between. Cheers man keep it up

  • @owendart 12-24mm for landscape, 11-16mm for portrait

  • @QQQQcon ha, you mean sports right?

  • @QQQQcon ha, you mean sports right?

  • where is the lens made in?

  • first

  • @mn9500 sad as shit :)
