  • "Hugh was brought up in a working class household, that his parents had specially built in the grounds of their Gloucestershire estate."

That line is pure genius. I just nearly choked to death on a digestive biscuit.

  • I guess it means to "hang her"

  • Would someone please explain the hanger? I feel so stupid :P

  • The "deceased" Hugh Laurie is wearing a different suit from the one he died in.

  • why was there only four seasons? Its brilliant.

  • @celtickiwi11 because greatness come in portions! i wouldnt be surprised if a fifth season comes before they die!

    I do!

    Does anyone know-

Yes I think everyone knows now

  • Plz say I can get the lid song in iTunes

  • @Djafintha Technically not - this song's chord progression is different. G / Em / Am / C / G / D9 as opposed to America's G / Em7 / C#-A / C6 / G / D11. This song has a extra middle eight as well - (Does anyone know, etc.)

    /end music geekiness

"Where is the... Where is the, where is the..."

    "It's on the-- HUGH!!!!"

xD I think it's safe to say that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie will always have a special place in my heart. The place reserved for brilliant, hilarious lunatics.

  • @TheCR155 It's a well known fact is real actual name is James Hugh Calum Robert Cameron Susan Barack Napoleon Abraham Teresa Stalin Fry Laurie, Jr.

Most people just only include the first few bits.

  • @TheMikeyReilly Ah. Touche

  • My school has an annual Male Pageant. One of the guys performed this.

    He won.

  • @CF1975 I have it. It's awesome.

  • the 23 people are sepated from their lids!

  • Type in "Laurie America" in the search bar and pick the first video. :D

  • Boy Fry socks Laurie in the gut a ton of times in these sketches. But it never gets old.

  • I love how lots of people are taking this seriously :P

  • Ooooh, how I want Stephen's outfit in this...

  • I'm putting the lid on the jar! Hugh! HUGH!!!! Haha!

  • anyone else think stephen fry looks like nicolas cage at 5:11?

  • (deceased)

  • i think everybody knows now :DDDD

  • they could do the opening of the show again and replace the name magaret thatcher with david cameron

  • "We're devoting the rest of tonight's program to a tribute to the writer, comedian, and night-sketch writer, Hugh "Excellent Sermon-Vicar" Laurie, who died suddenly today in a merciful accident that released him from years of painful mental illness. Hugh Laurie, whose name was Hugh Laurie, was better known by his stage name - Hugh Laurie." Stephan Fry and and Hugh Laurie are bloody BRILLIANT. <3

  • 23 people think they are watching House

  • That song gets stuck in my head EVERY TIME I lose a lid...

  • @LissaLovesMusic OMG - me too! How many of us are there?

  • The hand gestures!!!

"A Bit of Fry and Laurie" (Deceased)

  • this is just wonderful ^^

  • "where is the lid" is now my mobile phone ringtone.

  • i live in a house (that is a cardbordbox like lauries body)

    (and the lid)

  • I wonder if the coat hanger would be a replacement for Cameron too?

  • 22 people clearly do not speak english... and maybe blind aswell... possibly have no limbs? IM CLUTCHING AT STARWS COZ THIS IS SO GOOD

  • I swear I sing this song all the time basically whenever anyone mentiona lid HAHhahaa

  • "Hugh was born and brought up in a working class home, that his parents had speciality built in the grounds of their Gloucestershire estate.."

  • was the hanger meant for 'hang her'? if it was then that was brilliant #LOL

  • Best. Song. Ever.

  • I love his singing voice. Haha. :)

  • i just realized that hugh laurie is Amir in this comedy duo

  • Those guys are pretty funny. We like them over here in the good ol' USA. They spend most of their time here now. Stephen Fry even has two houses here. Sorry we had to steal them. Those A Bit of Fry and Laurie sketches are classic!

  • 22 people's jars have been separated from their lids.

Yes, it's a old cliche and I'm gonna get so much hate for it, but, seriously, how can you dislike Fry and Laurie?

Oh wait, that's right, Laurie's not playing House...

  • I was laughing the whole time, but when they both mimed brackets, i fell onto the floor.

  • This whole sketch is bloody brilliant, but at "...in the grounds of their Gloucestershire estate" I completely lost it.

  • man I dunno, I have trouble laughing.. everyone owes everything they have, their very lives to right-wing politicians..

  • It's amazing how well these sketches hold up after so many years. I think because the Fry and Laurie are such personable people that they are a joy to watch, whatever they are saying. Also because the comedy is so intelligently written, with a marvellous play on language.

  • "The moment I knew he was really dead will be very hard to beat."

I almost want a friend to die so I can use that wonderfully cruel line!

  • @MrBuch169169 I don't understand, please explain! Thank you

  • Hugh 'excellent sermon vicar' Laurie.

Love this sketch, one of their best IMO.

  • SF's description of HL in his recent autobiography is just lovely...dare you to read it without blubbing!

  • Coincidentally, I am at this moment wearing a T-shirt (Iron Maiden), which features Margaret Thatcher having just been brutally murdered by a zombie.

  • I'm happy to say I've learned "Where is the Lid" on the piano. Beautiful song.

  • @GarnetBering93 But did you figure out where the lid was?

  • @tehredmage After two or three verses, yes.

  • Hugh Laurie is absolutely gorgeous! -3

  • There are few finer sights in this world than hugh lawrie being punched by stephen fry.

  • What's strange is that IMDB says that Rowan Atkinson played "himself" and Nigel Havers played Rowan Atkinson. Someone got punk'd.

  • A Bit of Fry and Laurie (deceased)

  • I love that the AND in the title sequence comes from the word UNDERGROAND.

  • "... a working class home that his parents had built in the grounds of their Gloucestershire estate"

    :}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

  • This si SO great, lol!!

  • Bless! This sketch has all the best features of ABOFAL rolled into one. Satire, Absurdism, Hugh performing music and Stephen punching him. XD

  • Who the hell dislikes this?

  • haha thatcher hate love it, a coat hanger would have been better than that stupid hag! XD

  • Why is Laurie wearing such a massive suit? The trousers are incredibly baggy....

  • Hugh "Excellent Sermon, Vicar" Laurie... :-D

  • 'where is the lid where is lid oh hugh where is the lid ' got me giggling so hard

  • "does anyone know?"

    "I do!"

    "does anyone knoooow?"

    "I think everyone knows!"

    Hahahahaha best show ever

  • i'm putting the lid onto ther jar now....its righ....HUGH!!!!!!!!!! hahaha

  • I think i'm in love with hugh laurie ...

  • my god the roawan part is just great.

  • I liked the part when Hugh said where is the lid.

  • I'm actually quite astonished that Hugh could keep up that piano and singing while Stephen was around him going THE LID IS HERE. XD

  • Forgive me for being a victim of America's poor education of anything outside of American borders, but from the beginning of this sketch, I have to ask: Was Margaret Thatcher the UK's version of George W. Bush? If so...I feel bad that you guys had one, as well :) .

    -IMP ;) :)

  • @IceMetalPunk No, she was far from Bush - more like your Reagan if I understand your presidents correctly.

  • @bouncedrealitycheque Although Fry's description of her could easily be used in a description of that former pres... just replace female pronouns ;)

  • @bouncedrealitycheque So... less incompetence and more assholeishness?

  • @tehredmage Yeah that's pretty much it - with maybe a hint of Nixon (although she'd never have got caught)

  • @IceMetalPunk Thatcher is the spawn of satan, a privatising, society-killing, class divide-widening bitch from hell, a throwback to the days of imperialism and tyranny. She is worse than George Bush. Bush is just an idiot who in any other country would not be trusted with a pair of scissors. Thatcher is Hitler, Satan and Noel Edmond's trousers all rolled into one.

  • Whoop whoop, Hereford!!! That's where I live

  • "Where is the Lid?" sounds like "America" ? :D

  • @TheLundsby

Not even remotely - not in meter or in melody.

    What an odd comment.

  • @Rajamuttu Well, the progression and rhythm is the same. :P

  • I love Stephen Fry's speech, I could hear him talk about anything. A little confused though is the word Fry uses at 0.56 "decribe" or 'decrive'?

  • @ievoadil

    It's "decry", my friend.

  • @Sheeno101 - indeed! thank you.

  • "Hugh Laurie whose real name was Hugh Laurie was better known by his stage name Hugh Laurie" XD love that part

love A Bit of Fry and Laurie (Deceased) XD

  • I want "where is the lid" as my ringtone XD

  • @LouisisHOTTIE

    OMG, me too!

  • I can't stop watching 'A bit of Fry and Laurie(Deceased)' its hilarious

  • i wonder where the lid was.

  • ... Oh wow... I've watched too much House.

It'd be amazingly funny if on House, he decided to hum this under his breath, or something...

  • Brilliant! Couple of geniuses!

  • The first person speaking was Nigel Havers

  • Nigel HAVERS?

Ok now this is NON-SENSE haha

I LOVED THIS! CRACKED ME UP!

  • I actually had an asthma attack when I first saw this, I was laughing so hard. Absolutely brilliant!

  • The lid to one of our pots always disappears, so when I've searched the whole kitchen and say out loud "Where is the lid?!" I just can't help myself continuing "Where is the li-ii-iid?"

  • A bit of "Fry" and "Laurie" (DECEASED)

  • "Hugh... I'm putting the lid on the jar... HUGH!!!!"

"Hugh Laurie, whose real name was Hugh Laurie was best known by his stage name, Hugh Laurie" Sheer brilliance

  • hmm... stephen fry already had the tribute video ready... perhaps this is exactly what he was planning to do from the start!!! lol. i <3 these guys. they're very funny

  • where is the lid??? *punch*

    gotta try that... LOL

  • Damn that song is catchy, have been singing it the entire day :)

  • oh look at hugh's face when he plays/ :)

  • @thenextmarionette Nigel Havers

  • Absolutely brilliant--love these two!

  • Me too.

  • very merciful accident indeed

  • where is the lid, where is the lid , where is the where is the where is the where is th liiiiiiiiiiiiid

  • Hugh's silent reactions while Stephen speaks... always a delight.

  • I love their little brackets and stephen's one finger quote marks XD

Where is the...where is the... oh where is the liiiiiiid? 8D

  • "who died suddenly today after a merciful accident that released him from painful mental illness" haha, love it! This may be their single funniest skit. <3 Fry and Laurie <3

  • "Hugh Laurie, whose real name was Hugh Laurie, was better known by his stage name - Hugh Laurie."

    Love it.

  • @DanThePropMan you feel smart now?

  • @BeatboxingBassDuo Sheesh, it was an innocuous comment about my favourite part. It's not like I said it just for the ratings, I didn't even know. You feel good about yourself now for calling me an idiot over a year-old comment?

  • this is the most random skit I've ever seen lol, but so funny xD

  • Brilliant clip!

  • They are fantastic.

  • Funny Brilliant Hillarious AMAZING!!!!!!!!! LOL! I love them!

  • oh brilliant !!!!! I love them !!!! =D

  • HO WHERE IS THE LID!!

  • Rowan Atkinson brilliant as always.

  • When isn't he?! :D

  • amazinggg! i love it! these two are amazing!

  • The caption that reads 'NIGEL HAVERS' kills me.

  • "oh wheeer?" BAM!

  • I work in a lab and have to hum "where is the lid?" many a time a day. Great scene.

  • [btw im talking to other ppl all the way down in the comments]

  • haha well i know its not a real song haha... but it sounded familiar [the tune] turns out it was, Its the song America

  • He is cute when he's angry. I wish they still did this - its the best sketch show Ive ever seen. Stephen and Hugh (better known as 'Hugh') are so great together! Maybe England should have a Parliament of hangers - that'd solve our problems. LOL :)

  • It's so hard to take Stephen Fry seriously when he's angry. He's just too adorable.
