The Iranian protester simply wants the Ayatolla to answer to the government...at the moment the government is answering to him. This means that if the revolution would succeed, at least in theory the religious leader would have less power. So, in essence, as an atheist you should support the cause.

Because the US and Israel continuously threaten Iran, sanctions Iran (the whole time while being an arms, including nuclear, dealer to Iran) was the reason the people wanted protection. I agree, Moussavi isn't an improvement.

However, the protest movement has begun shifting from reformers to revolutionaries. They've started criticizing the Ayatollah and the Islamic Revolution, the more the gov't cracks down the more radical they become.

Also, I think siding with the protesters could backfire. The gov't in Iran has been trying very hard to link the protesters to the West, why make it easier for them?

As a born-Iranian and someone who've lived there for a long, I honestly don't give a fuck about the protests and the people dying. One thing I've learnt reading my country's history is this; it's not fucking worth it.

As for the protests, there is actually more than two sides fighting for "justice"; one side are the Mousavi supporters. There's also the Mujahedins, the University student and the normal people. The can all go fuck themselves.
