@happydragon5077 - Yes, you're right! But, do keep in mind that it's this guy's very FIRST time at DB and he was trying it out. Now, two yrs later, he has stuck to the sport and has improve lots since this video has been taken.
@d00m33 - This is a rowing room which they've adapted to our paddling needs. Another club gotten one made purposely for DB and that one is way MORE amazing that this one shown in the video.
@montrealdragonfly - Awesome, that thing is meant for rowing?? It doesnt look like the water goes wide enough to accommodate the oars. Our tank will be purely built for DB, but its cool that this one can do both.
Rotation is when you twist your back and your back is practically side by side with the edge of the boat... giving you an extra reach = pulling more water = moving the boat even more... also, the back muscle is way stronger then just using your arms.
@jakylili - Rotation is when you do your reach and twist your back to get an extra reach... and when you pull the water, you sit back-up while un-twisting your back... that's rotation.
At this point of the training, after working on different parts of paddling & at higher intensity, by paddling with the Tees of the paddle, where we have no resistance but we focus on being in synch and perfect technic.
I think that it's the only set-up in Montreal in this manner. Obviously, it does help that the 1976 Summer Olympics were held here and this is were the rowing athletes would practice. They just adapted the facilities for indoor DB practice.
The coach at the time insisted that we us min 37inch paddles to get the extra reach... but, there were also newbies in this video... and which they're new to the sport and simply trying-out a paddle.. once that they get a hand of it, they'll know what size of paddle fits them best.
Thanks for the feedback, mbl444. Our coach has already given us the same feedback... keep-in mind... we're always attempting to improve and there's always room for more improvement. Gotta luv indoor practives for that... time to focus really on the technique.
turn dont lean stay center keep your top hand near your forehead 2 to 3 inches and follow the person in front of you pull the same amount of water straight down. blend and get the boat running
If only singapore have such places to practice.

The guy in the middle row wearing the dark t-shirt have his lower hand way too high. It should be closer to the blade.

instead of the regular D" exit what do you think about the Up and out " exit at the hip?
rramdeo 2 years ago
Good point... we're currently working on quick exit at the hip.... To learn how to paddle properly, it's a work in progress.

should pull out once the blade reaches around mid-thigh. any farther back will pull the boat down and slow down.
