Very proud to say i'v saw John 7/8 times.How lucky was I?Also meet him,had a beer and a smoke with him.Got to a the after party in the back room bar in Ireland.Reel down to earth man.
Itz amazing and really is astounding such a wee population is Scotland and what stunningly wonderful artists, creative, stunningly brilliant people, talent, from such a wee wee place
curtis8516, I certainly did watch bbc4's doc.( for the second time!).John was on T.V. quite a lot in the 70's ( OGWT, In concert etc..)and I remember my younger brother and me being captivated by his hypnotic guitar playing. Of all his great music Small Hours is my favourite.
I'm assuming an idiot hit dislike by mistake????????????? if not they need to be named and shamed!!! bad person!!! grrr!! this is how I want to tell my gf how i feel!!!
wonderfull-amazing- magical- sooo good- THANK`S FOR POSTING!!! Really so good how he uses his voice his intonation-- is -- with a lot of feeling-talented-- could write more- better listen- thank`s a lot (`v`)
John Martyn must simply be one the most underrated musicians of all time. His song writing has the perfect combination of 'simple melody' and yet carries a subtle complexity that only an attempted understanding of the man can lead you to appreciate. Despite his rough exterior, his music reveals a delicate song writer that generations will enjoy.RIP John Martyn. Your music will serve as the most perfect epitaph.
John martyn has probably written the most inspiring and beautiful piece of music I've ever heard but, I've been told of someone who has read his auto-biography that he was suppose to be a bit of a tit, which amazes me when you listen to his music.
@MrPosdnuos i was in a full time professional band when I was 16 (now 34) and for my 16th birthday one of the guys bought me 'Solid Air; with the inscription ' Welcome to puberty'' Changed my life. 16 is a good point to start apreciating music like this, it means you're years ahead of everyone else. well done.
First heard this comin back from a shroom festival in 81.Comin down was a pleasure makin love to a very special lady..John had a way of saying exactly what you needed to say or hear..This world is a sad sad place since he left us but its so much richer for his blessing us with his pure geniuos which will still pull at your heart string for decades to come...R.I.P. mate i certainly wont forget along with millions of others...THANK YOU THANKYOU THANKYOU
This was the song I chose for my wedding dance - had the pleasure of following John for years n years - have some great photos of him on the Skye Ferry! on his way back to the mainland after a Gig on Skye - the most beautiful song ever RMcG
Marvellous Song. It was (in part) on the 7th episode of series 3 of the (UK) series of Ashes to Ashes. I have to say it was the best scene of a great TV programme because of this piece of music.
it shud allow u to do it. it mite be because youtube recognises it as a copyrighted song and will not allow these paticular vids to be shared on other sites. Try sharing one of the live versions. Those are not afflicted ;-)
The man lived like a devil but sang and played like a saint. I´ve loved his music for 40 years. RIP John, there can never be another. This song is your epitaph from all those who were touched by your genius.

@Scoob505
Hi I'm not being condescending (I hope) but may I suggest thinking about forgiveness for people's weaknesses and enjoy what he was fantastic at?
I think he was incredible at expressing emotions through music, and I'm sure if he met enough good Irish people, he'd like them.
Some are awful people, some are beautiful - like all of us.
Even if he hated every Irish person on the planet, it doesn't make his music less enjoyable for you.
Kind wishes.
