Dana Gould Peforms Some of "Let Me Put My Thoughts In You"

No offense guys, but network TV comedy is not representative of most good comics.  This small, clean-for-TV segment from Dana is in NO WAY indicitive of his actual albums. He is truly, truly funny, and a brilliant performer. Check out his CD's or DVD performances and you'll see what I'm talking about. And, he's probably one of the most original comedians around. Look at his body of work. Why hate someone based on 4 minutes of material?

His material is severely toned down for television. Dana was a writer on The Simpsons for six years (he left in 06), check out some of his other stuff.

I know how brilliant Dana is, I was very disappointed to hear him being so unoriginal.

Personally, I don't think that Dane steals jokes (maybe a bit close to a Louis C.K. bit, ok, maybe), but he is a boring comedian. The premise of all comedy is surprise, and in that quality, he does not deliver. If you love comedy, or more appropriately, stand-up, then you can see all of his punches coming from a mile away. For me, comedy has always been the realm of the disillusioned, and the disenfranchised, and Dane Cook is the antithesis of that. It's boring and stale.

Dane Cook is completely talentless. Gould, on the other hand is a very funny. Jeez, I just compared the two. Sorry Dana...forgive me.

Why even compare the two? One's a comedian and the other collects friends on MySpace - he's the male Tila Tequila.

I used to see Dana every few weeks at Uncabaret through the mid-90s. He's right up there with Patton Oswalt and David Cross as one of the greats comics of this generation.

His material doesn't translate to network TV... the DVD is fantastic, as is his old episode of HBO's One Night Stand. Brilliant, really experimental stuff. And of course, there's all the hilarity he brought to The Simpsons as a writer. It's upsetting when I see stuff like this because it's essentially a brilliant, incredibly influential comedian having to realign everything for ABC censors.

He deserves a better channel than ABC i've never even heard of him before but he is absolute comic gold. His name should be one easy to find yourself not by a friend.

It's true. I mean, this is a comedian's comedian. Other great stand-ups like Patton Oswalt cite him as an influence as well as a contemporary. I'd suggest checking out his segment on Comedians of Comedy: Live at the Troubadour or his DVD, Let Me Put My Thoughts Into You.

That's interesting. I'd never heard of Patton's opinion of Dana Gould, but it makes sense. I absolutely love Dana Gould's comedy. As good as his stand up his, however, have you ever heard him interviewed? On the old Adam Carolla radio show, his new podcast, or Fitzsimmons' podcast? Off the cuff, in that format, he has absolutely brilliant. I have literally had tears streaming down my face listening to him.
